xp I didn't go to the shops last night, I had a haircut instead (less tasty on toast, I'm sure) so no marmite xo report today. I promise i'll be on it tonight tho.

Marmite XO was a disappointment, tbh. I had some one slice of toast with XO and one with regular marmite, spreading it equally thinly/thickly on each, and I had a cup of strong coffee to cleanse the palette after each bite (also to wake me up). I would describe XO the way that people who don't like regular Marmite describe it, sort of leathery and cloying; I guess that's the super-yeast. I'm not sure its particularly pleasant, but that might be just me not being used to it. I'll give it another go tomorrow and see what happens.

I'm sure it tastes like melted vinyl...I mean, I'm sure aged Vegemite would taste equally as horrid.

I have never tasted the stuff, but based on what I know by reading (your posts) I think I would probably like the stuff. I hate sweets and really go for the savory. I will go to the food imported store and bravely purchase a jar of Vegemite and get some crackers, thus will probably gain 10 lbs in a 48 hour period, but it's worth it, (right?????) for the whole introduction of Vegemite to the USA thing.

I don't want to get used to Marmite XO then unable to go back to normal marmite because I can't taste it, and I get locked into paying an extra quid for Extra Old.

Its an hour later and I can still taste the XO after after another 2 cups of coffee. Bleugh!

I got some of this, it's not actually much stronger than normal Marmite, and thus not really worth the extra money, but it does taste fucking good on a buttered crumpet.

i'd say the trick for beginners is to lightly grill some toast, but lots of butter on and then a just a little bit of marmite. before long you'll be slathering it on. (toast, that is)

also, stir a little bit in as you're frying mince beef: WELL FIT.

I didn't really like Vegemite as a kid. But when I was living in France I developed this real craving for it and used to go on a pilgrimage to the only shop I knew in Paris, somewhere on the Left Bank, where you could buy it. Now, it's about the only thing I like to put on toast. The mysteries of Vegemite!
