i don't miss facebook but i do miss talking to most of my internet friends. they're good people but the opportunities for quality socialization on facebook just aren't there, i find it to be an addiction that ultimately does more harm than good. i need to find more friends i can hang out with in person, but the social anxiety makes it challenging...

They don't show YouTube links in memories anymore, but I think that's the extent of the filtering (aside possibly from game/app posts).

Have deactivated FB and IG for a little more than a month now and it's been brilliant. Don't miss either.

Wish I could take myself off Twitter too but it's a job requirement, unfortunately.

I have been off fb for a couple of weeks. It's liberating. I do miss some people but the downsides being on it are outweighing the former. Back on ilx which feels grebt. Just can't access my stevienixed account. Nathom will do. Lol

anyone got tips for getting rid of the phantom notifications? my total keeps creeping upwards, now it's at seven, none of which are real.

you know, the little red dot with the number in it. When I'm logged out, it (incorrectly) says seven, when I log in there are zero. Totally nitpicky but it drives me crazy.

yeah, and I think that's at the root of it. I don't see them on the phone, but I do on the computer.

The Android app is rubbish tbh. Sometimes when these things appear on the Web page there are new likes or comments way down your list from days ago that it wants you to acknowledge. I've had maybe the odd genuinely phantom notification but it lasted for a day or so and I've never had them mount up

i often get notifications based on the last time i used facebook on the particular device. ... esp. message notifications ... as opposed to the last time i used facebook and looked at the notifications

all I want for Christmas is for the Facebook 'hide post' option to work.

ex-colleague uses it like Twitter and is forever posting crap memes and pictures of beer, things I don't mind seeing once, but given that the hide post option seems to do nothing, I have to scroll past them again and again.

The local news feature in the iOS app is awful, just highlighting every petty crime so old people can panic some more.

un-following seems a bit drastic - some of it is interesting. it's just the drunken (?) chains of cat memes, the half-dozen pictures that he posts individually, or the French language stuff that annoys me. hide posts would be fine, if it worked.

(with the reposts you can hide all from the original poster and that seems to work. social fixer plugin has an alternative that works on desktop)

I use the Snooze for 30 Days option for a couple of my friends.

i have a number of people i snooze for 30 days because they post too much
it's the best option imo bc at most i have to snooze them again, that's 1 click for 30 days of relief with no hurt feelings

I'd like a "hide stuff I don't wanna see" feature, but I guess AI isn't that far along yet.

the 'hide for 30 days' i did has obviously worn off. ex-colleague (see above) posted 17 (seventeen!) things on the 3rd, including 4 reposts from "Cinema, mon amour" which is some kind of arthouse movie screenshot farm.

Seem to be a lot of companies that have decided to stop advertising on this site.

my company just warned us not to say controversial things if we say we work for them on our FB profile, or we can be disciplined.

Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the delightful feature of fb automatically popping up a message window whenever visiting a business page?

This has just started happening for me with the new layout.

I just went through and looked at a bunch of businesses that I have liked. Some of them have the message window pop-up and some don't, which makes me think maybe it's something on their end.

While I was going through though, I noticed a bunch of weird stuff that I didn't recognize in my likes. A movie called Scare Dares that seems to have never been released. A Disney Junior page, but not the one sanctioned by Disney. A link to a shady-looking external website titled "I can't believe a GIRL did this because of Justin Bieber - Website". In the case of the first two, clicking on the link brought up an error page that read "This Content Isn't Available Right Now. When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted." For the Bieber scam site, the message was "You Can't Go to This Link From Facebook. The link you tried to visit goes against our Community Standards." But as far as I can tell, I'm left with no way to unlike these things!

I actually have taken a one week vacation from FB (using messenger only) and Jesus, why didn't I do this earlier. my mood has been so much better.
