Prompted by this apparently random 'where are they now' story. Sample:

Actor: Ian Ziering (Steve)

Who Were They?: Corvette-driving jock and ladies' man. This rich kid eventually settled down, buying and running his own newspaper, marrying, becoming a father and taking on diaper duty.

Post-'90210' Peak: None

Post-'90210' Nadir: None

Where Are They Now?: Ziering, 42, appeared with buddy Brian Austin Green in 2005's "Domino," directed by Tony Scott and starring Keira Knightley. Divorced former Playboy Playmate Nikki Schieler after five years of marriage.

The outlook: "I've got a few things in the fire. Nothing really that I'd like to discuss as of yet. Until they come to fruition, I don't want to jinx myself. It's just, you know, if slow and steady wins the race, I still feel like I've got legs for a long career in front of me."

Career Trajectory: Career?

Post-'90210' Nadir: Appearing in a 2004 stage version of "When Harry Met Sally … " in London, promptly eviscerated by tough and nasty Brit critics.

The importance? The graffiti-laden bathroom you see is the women's restroom for...KUCI. It was done back in late 1992 or so, specifically for this album cover.

Wasn't there also some girl with glasses early in the series? I think she dated Brandon. And I remember there's was a minor scandal when it was found out that the actor who played her was 30 or something in real life.

For the first couple of years the show was called "L.A. Beat" in Finland, I think because the Finnish distributor feared that Finnish kids wouldn't understand what the title refers to.

Andrea, she was called. I loved Beverly Hills 90210. Loved it.

As opposed to Luke Perry, the oldest "teenager" not in the cast of Grease?

sometimes I still learn for a Dylan to take me to visit me late at night or take me to Baja... his best line was "at the risk of sounding glib Kell, that's why I drink" which took many plays to decipher (slurred in his husky whisper) during one of his "alcoholic" stages.
I love all the messed up girls: Val, Christine Elise's character who nearly burned down the Walsh's house and was supposedly JP's lover in real life... oh and all the sexual tension between Brandon and his male buddies

I saw Christine Elise at a tiny film festival in Michigan a couple of years ago -- she was really nice and dressed sorta butch.

Tori got divorced. While still married, she got together with the actor of one of the Z-grade films (or series?) she was *acting* in as well. Apparently her dad's (or was it mum?) was angry and they might disown her cause she ridiculed her mum on a show she does? I'm not too sure, I was never a big fan of her. Oh yeah, apparently she doesn't accept any money from daddy as she prefers to live a Simpler Life. heh.

And Brenda became intolerable after Kelly and Dylan started going out. Her character literally had nothing else to do other than complain about how unfair her life was. It wasn't as bad as Pam on "Dallas" after Bobby started dating Jenna Wade, but it was pretty bad.

Highlights:

-- DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!! DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!! DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!! DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!! DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!!

-- Brenda ripping into Dylan and Kelly on the street when she found out they'd been seeing each other during the summer. This might have been Brenda's finest moment (the ep when she snuck away to Baja with Dylan is right up there) but it was also one of her last scenes that was decent in any way.

-- Dylan giving David the straight talk on drugs and helping him flush his stash down the toilet.

Andrea was the type of character that served no purpose once they were out of high school (no need to have the stereotypical nerdy chick anymore) although it was entertaining to see her go from frigid to popping out babies in about one season's time.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:54 (thirteen years ago) link

SO choice:

1. BAG getting hooked on speed or meth or whatever and zooming through his college radio show
2. The “racism is bad” episode, post L.A. riots
3. Jason P’s descent into alcoholism and exit from the show (what happened there plotwise? I had stopped watching by the time this went down – once they got to college and Brenda left it got boring boring boring)
4. Gabby having an affair with a heartless married dude that was discovered by sensitive Luke Perry
5. the episodes that spun off into Melrose Place
6. Perry’s dad’s (grizzled vet from Days) boat blowing up real good
7. The episodes where Dylan rescues his sister from a kidnapping so convoluted I can’t recall teh details now

Mr. Walsh was Mr. Hogan of "The Hogan Family"!

Nope, that was Dylan's dad (also a Days of Our Lives regular, as Raymond noted).

Another daytime soap connection: Kelly's dad was played by the actor that played C.C. Capwell on "Santa Barbara".

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 8 June 2006 19:10 (thirteen years ago) link

Mr. Walsh was Mr. Hogan of "The Hogan Family"!

He's also Roman Brady on Days Of Our Lives, which my wife shamefully watches.

In the fall of 1999, I started watching re-runs of 90210 on FX every night from 5-7 when I was getting home and making dinner and such. This was the last year that actual new episodes were on the air, so I ended up watching the entire ten year run of the show (reruns on FX, new epidoses on Fox) in about 9 months. It was pretty intense, and I've not watched it or even thought much about it since then.

There was a time though when I was really drunk and trying to make up rap lyrics about 90210 - the only bit I remember was "getting lost like the Martian lander / cheating on the big test like Steve Sanders".

And what is Jamie Walters doing RIGHT NOW?

two weeks pass...

knee deep in season 4 and I may have hit my limit early with the most egregiously awful episode to-date, the episode where Brenda finds a teenage girl's diary from the 60s. The entire episode consists of Brenda imagining the gang acting out the events in the diary, complete with bad wigs, cringeworthy dialogue (it feels like every other line is a period-appropriate song title/lyric reference), and the laziest plotting imaginable.

I was planning on watching up through the episode where Donna gets pushed down the stairs by her abusive rocker boyfriend but this may have been a bridge to far.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 27 September 2017 20:04 (two years ago) link

it's clearly a filler episode but nothing is really played for laughs and the boomer 60s shit is cliched beyond belief. on the plus side, Brendan plays the gung ho ROTC recruit (in Robert McNamara drag) that signs up for Vietnam duty and promptly gets killed.

I have reached the end. In the season 5 finale Kelly *almost* becomes a lesbian, Steve hits on a transvestite, Brandon makes out with Valerie, Ray pushes Donna down the stairs, and Dylan gets dangled out of a funicular by a mobster. Everything has become so ridiculous *all the time* I'm now inclined to accept Alfred's initial estimation that after the first 2 seasons any semblance of recognizable teenage reality began to be eroded in favor of silly soap opera hijinks.

Dylan's past-life regressions were p funny tho. I think I liked "Hobo Dylan" the best.
