DO DIRT is a new club night in London, with Joey Muck, Lex Pretend, Poptext Abby and Token Girl at the controls.

DO DIRT is about mucky pop, rude raps, sleazy rock, filthy electro, horrible house, sweaty funk, grime, and more. DO DIRT encourages bumping, grinding, and bouncing.

DO DIRT begins Thursday 29 June, upstairs at Dust (27 Clerkenwell Road, nearest tube Farringdon), 8pm-2am, £3 entry.

http://myspace-084.vo.llnwd.net/00720/48/00/720290084_l.jpg

At DO DIRT, hot specials will include: Ellen Allien, Annie, Tomas Andersson, Avenue D, Ce'cile, Cristina, Fannypack, Felix Da Housecat, Fox N' Wolf, Nelly Furtado, Gene Serene, Kano, The Kills, The Knife, Mike Jones, Junior Senior, Lady Sovereign, Le Tigre, Lil' Kim, Maki Geil & Playcolt, Michael Dracula, Miss Kittin, Christina Milian, Mobb Deep, Morningwood, Rihanna, Robyn, Prince, Juelz Santana, Scenario Rock, Spank Rock, Three 6 Mafia, T.I., Tiga, Paul Wall, Vitalic, Zeigeist AND MORE.

DO DIRT exists on the evil MySpace here.

For a special DO DIRT preview, come to Pottymouth at the Spread Eagle, 2 Kingsland Road, E2, this Saturday, where the DO DIRT DJs will be testing out their "GirlcentricPunkRiotRapBitchLektroPopKitschRockNRoll" between 1.30-4am. (NB this particular Do Dirt DJ will have nothing to do with the rocknroll bit of that list so don't try it.)

Hooray. A new indie night!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 08:59 (seventeen years ago) link

No indie.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:00 (seventeen years ago) link

That's the most indie line-up I've ever seen!

It sort of demands a parallel DO CLEAN club, doesn't it? Edison Lighthouse, Morris Minor & the Majors, the Dooleys...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:02 (seventeen years ago) link

what a shitty name!

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't choose all of the line-up!

Sugar is basically the Do Clean counterpart - I like to think of the girl on the second flyer as the Sugar girl's grimier little sister. Or possibly the Sugar girl at the end of the night.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Ce'Cile + Ellen Allien + Christina Milian + Lil Kim = Not Indie.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:12 (seventeen years ago) link

You should have called it the Badger Club.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Penguins >>>>>>>> Badgers.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:24 (seventeen years ago) link

no wai

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Sugar, Badger, try to keep up.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't understand!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't know the Lex was old enough to remember Don't Try It!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh I fucking hate Alan Sugar. I think he is maybe the second worst thing to happen to UK culture in the past two years, after Rhyming Slang Blunt.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Alan Sugar has been that same guy for 20 years, it's hardly new.

This sounds good and is of course staggering distance home!

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Why are clubs always on Thursdays? Cheap rates?

Marcello "Some Of Us Have To Work On Fridays You Know" Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 09:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Fridays tend to be reserved for more shall we say 'bankable' affairs e.g. karaoke

i think this night will be great tho - looking fwd to it

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 10:19 (seventeen years ago) link

What was Alan Sugar 21 years ago then?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 10:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Bill Sugar

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 10:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 10:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I should come along in a jetlag jetlag must stay awake kind of a way.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 10:31 (seventeen years ago) link

On Saturday? I should think the JL will have sorted out by then, the Thurs club is at the end of month.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 11:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I fear that the flyers are likely to be graffitied with people putting felt-tip "g"s on the end of "Do".

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 11:29 (seventeen years ago) link

ha ha. the name is mystifying to me. i join the 'great club, shame about the name' brigade. the top flyer artwork is excellent though - the pose of the girl is perfect.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 11:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Alan Sugar 21 years ago was Jeremy Beadle:

Thing is, though, the mental age of a person who would graf that into Dog Dirt is about EIGHT.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 12:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh yesh, I was thinking the 29th was tomorrow.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 12:33 (seventeen years ago) link

YEAH JERRY

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 12:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Will there be DIRTY DRONEROCK BOYS to do?

Coz if there ain't, I ain't coming.

that doesn't make it not funny...

also, there must be some formula involving (amount drunk)*(pens available)/(absence of TO LET signs that need an I in the middle)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 13:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Why don't we just go all the way and get some THERAPIST signs which we can amusingly separate to spell THE RAPIST, Benny Hill-style?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 13:33 (seventeen years ago) link

ridin dirty!

i so need to live in the UK with first 'Clique' and now this...

Oh god, it's 9.45 and I just woke up. When I get into work my face will be a mashup.

This is why I don't go to these things when they're on a Thursday...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 30 June 2006 07:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I still have one of the cameras, what's the easiest way to return it (Lex at Shimura Curves on Monday?)?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 30 June 2006 08:10 (seventeen years ago) link

this was a good night and i hope for more of them.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 08:36 (seventeen years ago) link

i, i-i-i, i'm uffie of course!

beaucoup fun. feel even worse right now than i would've had i been drinking.

whose camera is it? don't give it to me, i don't have a camera!

that remix of Linday Lohan (?!) is the best thing i've heard all year.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 08:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 30 June 2006 08:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Arse, I've left it a bit late to get around to reading this thread, haven't I? Boo. :(

When's the next one?

JimD (JimD), Friday, 30 June 2006 09:47 (seventeen years ago) link

The next one is whenever I work out I can afford it and get a venue (might be same, might not be). Thanks to everyone for coming! The Lohan/Pendulum mash is by a guy called Aggro1 - steve m, watch Livejournal for YSI action...

Flyboy (Flyboy), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Have you told Eddy Temple-Morris about this Lohan/Pendulum mash?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:02 (seventeen years ago) link

i'll make it to the next one, LEX! rah!

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:16 (seventeen years ago) link

didn't even occur to me that it might be a mash-up - assumed it was a proper remix!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:18 (seventeen years ago) link

It occurred to me last night that 'Ihre Personlische Glucksmelodie' is actually the greatest piece of music of modern times, no matter which jobbing remixers they've got in to butcher it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:24 (seventeen years ago) link

tracer there was someone there last night who looked remarkably like you! for a while i thought you were there

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:24 (seventeen years ago) link

or was it you?? maybe we even talked! my memory was strangely hazy last night which was strange given that i hadn't drunk that much due to lack of a million pounds

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:26 (seventeen years ago) link

i can never remember 'Ihre Personlische Glucksmelodie' but i'm sure Matt is right as he often is.

am particularly bouncy today (despite hangover) as a result of having been able to dance to Nelly F, Knife remixes etc. in club with pals whilst drunk. that's good then.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:27 (seventeen years ago) link

To my ears.... it was all just noise.

But.... enjoyable noise! That didn't annoy! So, well done young people. Promiscuous Gurl is a lot better to dance to than Maneater, which is good - but - difficult?

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:08 (seventeen years ago) link

nah, you can shuffle to 'Maneater'. or just sway breezily. or maybe even THE MONKEY.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:11 (seventeen years ago) link

thank you for your charitable work last night guys. The BBC website only let me donate a minimum of £5, as opposed to 16.5p, so £5 it was and I plan to eat the outstanding 967 minstrels in due course.

But - it was like, first song EVERYONE knows and loves, so you really want to go and dance to it, get excited and go up, and then you find yourself only being able to do the indie shuffle! Ha ha as if I do any other dancing BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT. I am sure good dancers could "wind" to it or something, or do the Mandrill.

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 30 June 2006 12:36 (seventeen years ago) link

do the emperor tamarin gurl!

I have to work tomorrow as well and have had to work since 8am today and might have to be compos mentis for a telephone interview with Cassie tomorrow at god only knows what time because her PR is let us say not as helpful as she could be!

(obv understood in all cases, esp south-of-the-river-dwellers tis a pity though :()

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Exactly - if it weren't for my having to go all the way back to Streatham and come all the way out again to East Acton three or four hours later, things like this would be much, much easier...but I'm working on that problem at the moment...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:58 (seventeen years ago) link

are you buying a giant castle in streatham that we can all live in and do discos in and everything?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 September 2006 10:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Depends what the asking price is for the Megabowl building... ;-)

No, it looks like we're going to be moving Fulham way at some stage next year; very early days still and obv depends on a lot of other factors but at the moment it's all looking very good indeed!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 September 2006 10:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not going to make this either sadly, combination of Important Football Game + Important Meeting Tomorrow + bindeath that occurred last time I stayed late at this make it impossible.
