Lots of lovely celebrities have donated shoes to a celebrity shoe auction which has just started on eBay.

Some of them our quite random - so might appeal to you lot!

This auction is to raise money for the Mines Advisory Group which clears landmines and unexploded bombs in former war zones.

Please help by bidding at:

Sally Moore, are you THE Sally Moore we know and love, or are you a spammer? (I'm sure it's the former but it's probably worth just explaining that :))

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 27 March 2006 13:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Friend not foe, or spammer, sorry! It is my first time though :)

Sally Moore, Monday, 27 March 2006 13:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I might bid for George Galloway's trainers.

Who is Astrella, and why is she unloved?

There are a HELL of a lot of potential cheesy pub quiz team names on that list ("Woody Harrelson's Vegan Slippers" etc.)

Peter Noone's high celebrity rating on this auction is a lttle hard to understand. Maybe he really likes those shoes & is buying them back himself!

He'll have to fight me for them!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Markelby, surely you're bigger than a size 7.5?

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I wouldn't WEAR such treasured items!

(are you assuming I have big feet because OTHER parts of me are so enormous?)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Naturally.

is there such a thing as nice looking/non peacocking shoes/boots for the rain?

F# A# (∞), Monday, 26 November 2018 17:04 (five years ago) link

There are plenty of nice hiking boots with full Gore-tex liners, or at least were when I last purchased them 28 and 7 years ago. The tongue on these is typically attached on the sides to the boot upper, so there's a continuous "sock" of impermeable/breathable material that will keep feet dry so long as one doesn't step in puddles more than 5 inches deep.

Sanpaku, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 01:10 (five years ago) link

Eg, some 161 models of waterproof boot at REI (excluding the ridiculous for urban wear mountaineering boots). Some just have non-breathable liners, which mean your feet will be in a sweat swamp my mid afternoon; upgrading to goretex or equivalent breathable liner is worth it. Plenty here that don't "peacock".

Those shoes seem completely normal.

Yerac, Wednesday, 26 December 2018 22:03 (five years ago) link

yeah I guess. There's just something subtly weird to me about them having literally no lines or perforations whatsoever, like you don't see that a lot on a men's oxford. Like a face missing features or something. But I tend to be oversensitive to stuff like that.

They are not freakish, just trying a little too hard. Like raspberry-flavored milk instead of plain or chocolate.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 26 December 2018 23:34 (five years ago) link

Yeah, and I guess the end of the day that's just not really what I want in my wear with a suit to work shoe, no matter how much I'd love to get a pair of AEs for $240 instead of $400.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 26 December 2018 23:41 (five years ago) link

wholecuts are pretty ostentatious imo

They are a bit Jil Sanders, but I like that type of minimalism.

I want shoes that look similar to these (including color) that are either (1) better quality than cole haan, or (2) cost less than $300. I don't trust Cole Haan for $300.

Matching the oxblood is hard. More used to that on longwings. Couple of Meermin things that aren't quite there.

I can’t get comfortable with the whole high end, handcrafted small batch leather sneaker thing no matter how much I stare at the pics (Greats, Koio, etc). The styles just don’t compute to me.
