bumping into people you went to school/college with

There really isn't a way out is there! Last night I had been DJing and was sort of hyper and this girl I went to college with, who was generally rude anyhow, came over and was like "Ah hi, how's it going", and I was sort of adrenalised and said "this is awkward, I feel compelled to talk and yet I have nothing to say..."

I wouldn't advise this approach, but surely there must be some polite form of "leave me alone I'd like to burn this bridge thanks".

oh, just bite the bullet and ask what they're up to, etc.

Ha! I've seen Irish boys do that to girls who were not me before, and all of them were comedy types.

yeah normally I would do the "what you doing now" talk I suppose, is really awful though, and also don't like the competetive streak it takes on when you're from a media course, not that I can't compete, I just don't like being forced into it.

the funny thing is I meet people I never said a word to in school and end up chatting with them for half an hour.

This happened to me on Saturday. There were about four separate people from college in the pub. Including a man known only as Mad Leon. The first thing he said to me was "Hey Matt. Have you got a girlfriend yet? I have, want to see a picture of her tits?" and waved a cameraphone in front of me. I ran away.
