(If this salad ever becomes a famous institution, like the Caesar, we can take credit and the proof will be around forever... the internet will never die.)

No ham, but Bac-O-Bits are acceptable.

andy --, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

No, you kind of deserve HAM in this salad for suggesting freakin' raisins and mayo. What?! eeew.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

Shredded beets!

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

Hey Y'all.

This is a good salad. For real...also totally FAT FREE DRESSING THAT TASTES GOOD! Unheard of!

anyway:

Baby spinach (just buy the shit in the bag, it's too hard to wash that shit)
1/2 apple cut up in slices
Blue cheese crumbles

dressing:
1 TB Orange juice
1 TB lemon juice
1 TSP honey
1 TSP dijon mustard
(whisk well)

Anyway, for seiously this is a good fucking salad, and good for you too!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

yay!

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

motherfucking avocado.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

I've never gotten the "fat free" dressing thing. Extra virgin olive oil is one of the best things for you. You will live FOREVER and be BEAUTIFUL.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

hard-boiled egg.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

OTM.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

I've never gotten the "fat free" dressing thing. Extra virgin olive oil is one of the best things for you. You will live FOREVER and be BEAUTIFUL.

I'm not down on olive oil! It rules, but I'm just saying that dressing I posted is really really good for having no kind of oil in it...it's wierd, stuff w/o oil usually tastes like shit. Anyway, it's good to "mix it up" when it comes to salads!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

Okie doke!
But back to the unhealthy stuff:
If you're gonna have egg you gotta have REAL bacon.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

A brazilian restaurant here serves a spinach salad with egg and bacon and warm bacon dressing that's probably full of molten bacon-grease. It is SO GOOD YOU WILL CRY.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

It's like it transforms the spinach into bacon!

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Such is the power of bacon.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Flowers. Toasted Almond Slivers.

andy --, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

warm bacon dressing is the bomb!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

guys....

WALNUTS.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

If they made actual warm bacon dressing bombs nobody would protest wars.

I love that can.

Cherry tomatos. Although perhaps in a new salad, without the pears and ham.

PUBES

only my 3rd post in a month and a half, so worth it, Thursday, 20 October 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

this thread reminds me of that one ep of pee wee's playhouse where he makes a salad for a snack. he says, "let's walk over to the salad bar!" and there's one already set up in the kitchen with loads and loads of veggies including sprouts, 10 kinds of squash and beans, toms, cukes, celery, carrots, radishes, etc etc. when he gets to the mushrooms he puts several on and asks, "is six too many? hahah". this was (and still is) funny to me.

ai lien (kold_krush), Thursday, 20 October 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

The salad I ate today:

mixed greens (you know the kind)
cucumbers
cherry tomatoes
celery slices
red onion
bacon bits (real ones)
crutons
ranch dressing

And on the side:
watermelon
cantaloupe
strawberries
grapes
turkey cold cuts

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

Best salad ever:

baby spinach (used sparingly, just as a bed)
pears
blue cheese
a tiny pinch of salt

Alternately:
garlic-stuffed olives
feta cheese

Can a salad have only two ingredients?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 20 October 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

Let's make a Salad 2.0, I'll start:

Artichoke hearts

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Goat cheese

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

OK this one already sounds revolting ;P

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

I can't imagine which one of those two ingredients you object to, or even the combination, so there's three ways now that you can be wrong.

:P

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:41 (twenty years ago)

ROCKET!!

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

You must mean arugala. Yes, that's perfect.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

Rocket on its own with balsamic and oil is mmmmmm.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

"arugula," even

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

Rocket on its own with balsamic and oil

Oh, but just imagine its peppery flavor with the tartness of artichoke and the sharp-flavored creaminess of goat cheese. It's really perfect.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

Come on, people! So far Salad 2.0 is whipping the hell out of Salad 1.0! Sunflower seeds... grumble grumble HIPPIES grumble...

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

sandwiches destroy salads

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

sandwiches are always better than salads %100 of the time always.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

I object to your unfair and gross generalization.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

I mean, you can put dog shit on a sandwich as easily as you can put it on a salad. Know what I mean?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:54 (twenty years ago)

And you can put some of the most marvellous things in the world on a salad, just as soon as you can put them on a sandwich. A big fluffy slab of bread is a great thing, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't have to be make-or-break.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Salad 2.0 needs more crunchiness. Please don't say iceberg...

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

shit sandwich is a better band name than shit salad.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

Salad 2.0 needs more crunchiness.

Oh, you and your narrow, boxed-in ideas about what a salad can be...

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

shit sandwich is a better band name than shit salad.

Only because of Spinal Tap.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Anyway its "ruchetta" not arugula ;P

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Is not.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

i'll concede that salads can be good, but i would suggest that most salads would be improved by being dumped between two slices of lightly toasted marble rye.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

I do not want a pasta salad with olives inside of marble rye.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

Arugula is an aromatic salad green.

It's my favorite salad green!

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

i would totally eat pasta salad on rye, if the olives were pitted... would be awesome with some roasted red peppers & feta or something

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

Results 1 - 10 of about 11,400 for ruchetta
Results 1 - 10 of about 21,800 for rughetta
Results 1 - 10 of about 631,000 for rucola
Results 1 - 10 of about 867,000 for arugula

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

Maybe if the rye was toasted first

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

would be awesome with some roasted red peppers & feta or something

Now you're just mixing your strong-flavored foods all willy-nilly

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

I just want Fritz to admit that a good salad is way WAY better than a bad sandwich.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, it would have to be toasted, pasta salad would tear through untoasted rye.

roasted red peps, feta & olives is not willy-nilly is classic!

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

but the arugula + peppers is not recommended

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

Considering the ultimate classic-ness of the combination of feta and olives, the roasted red bell seems like a self-consciously trendy addition.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

that's typical salad talk.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

I just noticed that this salad has a very Mediterranean theme

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

It's Salad 2.0, after all. Has to have its own flavah.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

OK, so we have:

Arugula
Artichoke heart
Olives
Goat Cheese
Red bell pepper (not roasted! Roasted it's a savory sandwich ingredient. Raw it brings in the sweetness.)

What else?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:22 (twenty years ago)

2 slices toasted marble rye

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

Sandwichist!

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

cucumbers- sliced thin or chopped?

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

sliced thin. I don't think I've ever seen chopped cucumbers outside of a thick sauce.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

Garbanzo beans!

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

You are a communist. Raw garbanzo beans taste like packing peanuts.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

I thought they were neutral but added substance :(

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)

God made garbanzos so humans could make hummus and falafel. Not so we could put the awful things in a salad.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:33 (twenty years ago)

ok, i'll concede... Red kidney bean?

naus (Robert T), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

'Course, many would say something similar about raw cucumbers, which I eat by the bowlful.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

Red kidney beans are awesome! A favorite childhood dish: red kidney beans and white rice, with a light sprinkling of sugar over them. It was like eating breakfast cereal for dinner.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 21 October 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

Arugula
Artichoke hearts
Olives
Goat Cheese
Red bell peppers (raw)
Cucumbers (sliced)
Red kidney beans

This salad is done.

naus (Robert T), Saturday, 22 October 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)
