maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
yay PROJECT RUNWAY season 2

Robert arrives in Miami = classic

Do I know Diana Eng? I feel like I've met her..

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 December 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

After five months without, today I regret for the first time having let my cable lapse.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 8 December 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

daaamn heidi!!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 8 December 2005 03:23 (twenty years ago)

I bet Diana wins this week, her piece was neat..

Daniel comes across as an actual human being, it's kind of adorable. That guy with the orange tie dye is so gone.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 December 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

they better not vote off santino -- the backwork on his dress was gorgeous!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 8 December 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

bald dude = eliminated

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

i mean, i see it coming.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

No, it's going to be either swimsuit lady or flat-affect quasi English menswear designer. The bald dude's dress is really good and he may win the challenge.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

"swimsuit lady"!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

"Jaclyn Smith, Jr., Esq."?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

serious. Pennsylvania mom's outfit isn't great, nor is Balthazar or the girl from Houston with her own shop..

Swimsuit lady is ugh

Kara from South Africa, Santiago, Diana = tops

I love Diana! I hope she wins the whole thing. And not just because she went to RISD.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

Daniel's second piece is really nice!

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

I don't want Daniel F to go anywhere, because I want to watch hsi hair

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

its totally going to baldo.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

I want Diana to make me clothes, I can't afford Helmut Lang.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

what happened to the season one reunion show they were promoting a week ago, but never wound up on the schedule?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I don't know! Is it different than the season one reunion they did right before the big NYC fashion week shows? Maybe just a rerun of that?

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 8 December 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

"When you get excited, it takes pictures." I SO want that. Everyone is going to hate Santino by the end because he's got what it takes and the ego to match. I'm glad swimsuit lady is gone. I'm not sad to see "It's cute and pretty, y'all, like me!" go either. So far my favorite character is the gay professor who should have gone to NY instead of LA.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 8 December 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

it must have been the same one daria; they were advertising it last week but maybe it was a mistake

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 8 December 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

lacking cable, i really wish they would show this at a bar, weekly. i would so patronize a bar that promoted project runway night.

carly (carly), Thursday, 8 December 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Santino v Andrae FIGHT and I am sooooooo there

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

I have a feeling it'll be Santino v Nick in the long run, they should be best friends & are both super talented but Santino is a sore loser with a fierce temper and Nick is a total sweetheart, or so it seems. will nice guys finish first? oh, the drama.

dar1a g (daria g), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

"It doesn't pay to be nice"- Kevin, season 1
I love me some Kevin. He's such a passive-aggressive indie boy!

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

except later I read that Kevin is in the market for a Russian mail-order bride, and he's possibly 44 and not 37 like it said on the show, so that kinda tarnished him for me a little :(

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

GO DIANA ENG

joseph (joseph), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

she has the technology!

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Monday, 19 December 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

I loved the Barbie episode.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

also how santino went and sat in the corner. oh, drama.

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 02:41 (twenty years ago)

Daniel Franco OMG!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

whyyyyyy?

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:13 (twenty years ago)

Why didn't they get rid of that dead weight Emmet?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

i was totally expecting emmett to go too!

also, pretty much all the lingerie SUCKED. except for the winning team's, but theirs still wasn't that great.

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

place bets now: will diana snap one day and become the new wendy?

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

Most of the drawings looked good, but the execution wasn't good. I liked the concept of the winning team, but on the runway it kinda just looked like Calvin Klein underwear.

What was going on when Daniel and Heidi locked eyes for way too long as he explained his theory of 'lovemaking'?

I liked Daniel's best of all; even though everyone said it looked too old.

I love Diana. What about when Santino claimed that all 3 women on her team had never had sex?

I don't really like this year's new, now the models are in the contest too. I guess they felt they had to raise the stakes for them so that they would actually start to show up.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 22 December 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

What was going on when Daniel and Heidi locked eyes for way too long as he explained his theory of 'lovemaking'?

that was what i was talking about! i think i started exclaiming at the tv. i think it wasn't the only time during the episode.

i'm not sure i'm predisposed to anyone now that daniel f is gone. i found nick super-annoying at the beginning, but his cute dress last week and his classiness in dealing with santino have redeemed him a bit. i like chloe, but not only for the right reasons. daniel v may have potential and i like that while he's obviously sort of set in his mod/rocker personal style, he doesn't seem to take it over-seriously (am i being incoherent here?). the girl whose name i can't remember (on diana and marla's team) seems to be the least-developed personality on the show, but there might be something interesting there ready to come out.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

oh, actually I probably like Emmitt most as a person, but i don't remember anything about his work, for good or bad

i think it wasn't the only time during the episode

that i exclaimed, i meant

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 05:38 (twenty years ago)

emmett's sort of a dead weight. he can't sew, right? he probably won't last very long then. (same with marla, thank god). gabbneb OTM abt daniel v. (and the other girl you're thinking of = guadalupe, whose work i don't even remember).

i think i missed this daniel-heidi locking eyes thing. god i'm glad he's gone.

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 22 December 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

GB, how can you like Emmet the most as a person?

I liked Daniel this year. He has an almost Japanese vibe the way he is always nodding his head and bowing at people when he wants to thank them. I think he overdid it a bit with his exit statement re ethics though.

It must be so much pressure to have to all work in that one room. Unless the deadlines aren't as strict as they appear on the show. It also seems like a really easy way for ideas to get "borrowed."

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 22 December 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

GB, how can you like Emmet the most as a person?

maybe i'm forgetting something, but he seems like the smartest one there. or maybe he's just the best critic. (a-ha) chloe may be the most adult, though, and i'll bet she has a great shot for that reason alone.

i'm not sure i ever came to like heidi last season. this time around, i'm starting to warm towards her. maybe it's the maternal thing. wild horses and 100 squash blossom necklaces, however, couldn't bring me to say the same about nina garcia.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:12 (twenty years ago)

guadalupe seems secretly-smart too

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah, at least he didn't andrae-out on everyone. that was just PAINFUL.

i was wondering about that, mary...has any fashion designer worth his/her salt ever had to work with these kinds of seemingly impossible deadlines? possibly silly question but aside from this show and america's next top model i know nothing about the fashion industry or the rates with which couture is pumped out.

ideas for a potential project runway drinking game are more than welcome here, by the way. stuff in a "take a shot every time tim gunn says 'carry on'" stylee plz.

x-post emmett seems to have a good head about him, but i think his designing focus is a bit narrow. the opposite of diana, really.

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

I was bummed that Daniel F. left tonight. I liked his head-bobbing, too. Santino is obviously really talent but a huge bitch and yet I somehow find him endearing, just that he is so ambitious. But I really like, um, Nick! Yeah, he's great. His Barbie dress was wonderful, and I like how he seems to have this developed social life when he talks about his students and his niece. Daniel V. has some potential, and I think I like him partially because he seems like the only straight guy (seems, at least) and so I can relate to him maybe a little bit better from the start. Also, I think Guadalupe seems really cool (OTM xpost). She handled that Kara anxiety mini-fight okay, I thought.

BUT I'm bummed that you all like Diana so much. She irritates me, and I thought her teammates gave valid criticisms of her. I loved the little spat she had with that uptight model, though.

Okay, sorry, I'm just starting to get really into this show. I wish I just had all the episodes on DVD right now so I could stay up all night watching them. Yeah, I really sound like a straight guy, right? Ha ha.

regular roundups (Dave M), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:23 (twenty years ago)

otm about santino. i don't like diana much either. i mean she seems a good sort and obviously has ideas, but she's also totally unrealistic about how workable they are, indicative of her somewhat general un-self-awareness.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm loving Heidi Klum this year. She's like a pregnant Barbie.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

also, her teeth. xpost.

regular roundups (Dave M), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:32 (twenty years ago)

i just realized who Tim Gunn is - he reminds of no one so much as my high school assistant (now head) theater guy, who ended up running/mentoring/negotiating/caretaking pretty much everything within shouting distance

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 06:40 (twenty years ago)

actually, I think Zulema is the likeliest sleeper candidate

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

her sweater garment was shit though.

regular roundups (Dave M), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

Daniel's snark is gettinga bit annoying, no?

Anyway, it sucks that ever5yone turned on Chloe. But.. you know.. this whole episode left me with a "meh" feeling. My ideal top 3 would have been:

1. Uncle Nick
2. Chloe
3. Andrae

That would have been a truly interesting fashion show. Kara seemed to have lost her individuality while on the show, but I'm glad that she made it to the top 4 and got to show off that delightful collection at Fashion Week. Everyone is hating on Chloe's collection, which totally baffles me because it's easily the best to my eyes (followed my Kara). Daniel and Santino are so one note. I mean, I don't know much about fashion, so perhaps Daniel's designs are "deceptively simple," but it's just so BORING. He'd fit right in with Banana Republic.

Predictions for the winner anyone?

It's become apparent to me that Chloe isn't going to win, so I think it's going to go to Daniel unfortunately. *sighs*

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 16 February 2006 05:14 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i'm kind of mad that the designs were all so uninteresting this week that i had to root for santino's crazy tambourine dress

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 16 February 2006 05:16 (twenty years ago)

I liked the conception of Chloe's dress quite a bit, though the top didn't quite do it for me. I take Santino's "pattern-maker" point, but his style isn't mine, or Chloe's.

my top 3 would have been Santino, Chloe, Andrae

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 16 February 2006 05:21 (twenty years ago)

Yes indeed, the designs were BOOOORRRRINNNGG this week. As was the outcome. As are the actual collections, from what I can tell.* They all seem so tepid- and amateurish (as cheap a shot as that is)- compared to the spring collections of *ahem* real designers.

The way they all turned on my girl Chloe. Chloe in the last two! What a bunch of self-important twits, judges and competitors alike. Daniel V. is so overrated in every respect that I'll be tuning in to the final episode purely in hopes of seeing him get his comeuppance. (Yeah right.)

I'm pissed that I ever cared so much about this show. Boo hiss.

*I haven't looked at them with any degree of thoroughness, I'm trying to preserve some element of surprise.

Father Brian Eno (Father Brian Eno), Thursday, 16 February 2006 09:51 (twenty years ago)

Everyone on here suggesting that Andrae should be in the final three gets the gasface. also I'm pretty sure y'all would start to get a little snarky if you had to live with santino.

ps. fuck u if u disagree

Milhouse is not a meme. But 'Milhouse is not a meme' IS a meme. (Adrian Langston, Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:21 (twenty years ago)

I just found out that all of the Project Runway music was done by Biff Sanders who used to be in Fourwaycross and Ethel Meatplow.

The Equator Lounge (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 16 February 2006 18:36 (twenty years ago)

why did Kara show a collection at fashion week?

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 17 February 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

oh I looked it up, it was just as a decoy, but still, she did do all the work.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 17 February 2006 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Out interviews Tim Gunn

potential spoiler warning: one note in the interview could be taken to suggest who the winner is (but not necessarily and there's also mitigating evidence)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 23 February 2006 01:44 (twenty years ago)

so, was Project Jay just a one-hour special? what about all the time he spent working toward this collection (and did it show last week?)

that emmy dress fiasco was horrible.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 24 February 2006 05:27 (twenty years ago)

also, what the fuck was guadalupe on in the reunion special? I'm surprised they even bothered to put her drugged up incoherent rambing in there for as long as they did.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 24 February 2006 05:31 (twenty years ago)

also, what the fuck was guadalupe on in the reunion special? I'm surprised they even bothered to put her drugged up incoherent rambing in there for as long as they did.

At least she was more entertaining than Heidi S. who was perpetually "whut?" everytime they asked her a question.

The Equator Lounge (Chris Barrus), Friday, 24 February 2006 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Hahahaha. Tim Gunn claims he wanted to "Bitch slap" Zulema in his video blog thingy. lol.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Friday, 24 February 2006 23:47 (twenty years ago)

The Santino-impression sequence, plus Andrae-the-Musical were the (intentionally) funniest things I've seen on tv in a very long time. And Daniel's chilling-out-a-bit plus laughing-at-Santino warmed me to him again.

Project Jay was interesting, but a little underwhelming.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 25 February 2006 00:51 (twenty years ago)

http://www.santinorice.com/

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:17 (twenty years ago)

I wondered how they'd play out the finale over two weeks. That's kind of brutal to make them all do another last minute challenge.

OK, uh, I like Santino again. Tell me that guy was never sort of goth or at least hung out a lot with really goth-y people in his teenage years. Daniel V is so.. um.. a little knowledge (or a little praise) is a dangerous thing, now he's learned how to diplomatically tell Tim Gunn "I appreciate what you say" when he clearly doesn't appreciate it and isn't listening at all.

Tim looks at Chloe's stuff and says, ah, Balenciaga.. but.. but.. it's so gold, and so pink! If you took Daniel V's fabrics and Chloe's silhouettes and put them together you might have something super cool.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:23 (twenty years ago)

I've looked at Santino's site before.. I guess it suits him, what a crazy mishmash of stuff on there. Daniel V has a Myspace or something, right? Chloe would have a nice Typepad blog.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:31 (twenty years ago)

phew! that open bold tag was driving me up the wall.

trouble is I still am not so crazy abt Santino's dresses! but I don't like peach, or that silhouette. I couldn't wear any of that. The stuff he wears himself, that, I could.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:36 (twenty years ago)

I don't think he was ever a goth. Then again, I don't come from goth-land (flyover-land, I'm convinced) and he does.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:45 (twenty years ago)

ah, santino has a myspace too!

http://myspace.com/santinosantino

tehresa (tehresa), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:47 (twenty years ago)

See, exactly, that's my point. If you are weird and art-y in flyover land and people give you a lot of shit for it the odds are good you're at least somewhat goth. Or noize. I guess I'm not talking about makeup and black and PVC so much as the peculiar combination of aggro + insecurity as survival mechanism in flyover land.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 2 March 2006 05:00 (twenty years ago)

the other thing is that there have always been 'goths' but I don't think it ever really became a phenomenon until the last few years when the kids Feiler-Faster-reified everyone into "Abercrombies," etc.

(and ultimately I think Santino is too creative to limit himself that way)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 2 March 2006 05:03 (twenty years ago)

they just had the finalists on the view, but there was really no interview - they just walked out with one of their challenge-winning designs. i would have loved to have the three of them and tim chilling on a view couch chatting with the gals.

tehresa (tehresa), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad Chloe won. She deserved it.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 9 March 2006 04:09 (twenty years ago)

this was like the comedown episode. not enough workroom normalcy and Tim Gunn felt vestigial. nice for chloe, who was my first pick to win, and whose stuff looked a lot better on tv than the web, but santino was still my favorite (maybe i'm getting pulled in by his show), and i still harbor some belief that they turned him down in part because he was never going to be the banana republic dude.

something very strange happened in this show - i finally fell for nina garcia.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 9 March 2006 06:13 (twenty years ago)

Daniel's collection- Asian? Military? WTF? What do those aesthetics have to do with his own, why should they be combined, how could they possibly be fresh? Those influences ended up being barely discernable in the actual collection anyway. Nearly everything seemed wearable, but overall... just blandness.

Santino's, with a few very notable exceptions, managed to be both bland and unwearable. What was he aiming at? He seemed to have lost all of his confidence in his style.

The Brainwasher OTM about Chloe. It all looked rather romantic and lush, especially when compared to the other collections. It was obvious it was hers, too, from all the judges' comments and the look on Daniel's face. She's been my choice since the blue & black dress of the "shirt off your back" challenge.

Not very suspenseful, but satisfying.

Father Brian Eno (Father Brian Eno), Thursday, 9 March 2006 07:48 (twenty years ago)

Nina Garcia needs to do something with her hair, but it was nice of her to throw a bone to Santino.

Father Brian Eno (Father Brian Eno), Thursday, 9 March 2006 07:50 (twenty years ago)

Chloe aside, I really don't understand how the judges picked Daniel over Santino for second place... or at least it was my impression that they liked Daniel's stuff the second best. I didn't like Daniel's stuff at all.

I preferred Santino to Chloe but I can live with her winning. But is it just me or did there seem to be very little excitement when she won? It was like "oh, okay". Last year it was a party when Jay won.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 9 March 2006 08:41 (twenty years ago)

Okay you poeple are fucking insane. GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON WHY CHLOE WON. I thought her collection was terrible. Heavy curtain-esque material, SHRUGS? I was utterly BAFFLED when they chose her. I thought Daniel's was a BIT boring but it was soooo banana republic and I thought he was the obvious choice for a winner

POOP BITCH (Mandee), Thursday, 9 March 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

I'll give you one good reason: Chloe's clothes were the only ones that fit the models. Here's another: her collection was the only one that had a unifying philosophy behind it. Daniel is a good short story writer and Santino might be a poet, but Chloe was the only one who wrote a novel. (Oh that was pretentious, sorry.)

I don't think that the judges were necessarily looking for "Oh we need someone who can design for Banana Republic," I think they were looking for "Who presented the best collection."

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 9 March 2006 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I lost a little love for Daniel when he acted all pouty that Tim Gunn didn't pee himself in adoration over his collection. Daniel got too used to praise, as if to think that anything he made was good because he made it. His clothes were boring. I would have liked Santino's collection best if it fit better. Heidi Klum's "boobs" remark was OTM. I was surprised by Chloe's monochromatic pieces. They looked like upholstery.

I thought the personalities this season were more entertaining than last season, but I think last season's clothing was more interesting.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 9 March 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

okay what exactly was the philosophy besides "ugly evening wear"?!?!

POOP BITCH (Mandee), Thursday, 9 March 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

poofy sleeves! (ugggggh)

also, there was one piece of daniel's that really looked like a cross between something at a ren faire and something a dominatrix would wear. or that was my first impression.

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 9 March 2006 16:27 (twenty years ago)

Chloe's dresses shared certain traits (shiny material, seaming themes, the shrug separates) and a unified color scheme. Daniel's "theme" was bullshit (Japanese + military + not following through = why?) and Santino's was "See, I can be careful and safe and boring too!"

But if you found her stuff ugly, then you won't care about that argument. I just think Daniel choked and Santino doesn't really care about women, is all.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 9 March 2006 16:39 (twenty years ago)

The judges' discussion had as much to do with persona as the work. Santino is extremely bright and passionate (not a detail or organization man), Daniel is very tasteful and up-and-coming (too safe and green), but Chloe was the most skilled and business-oriented. Which they knew all along. So given comparable collections, the result was a foregone conclusion, perhaps from the very beginning. Though she (the writers?) probably helped put her over the top with the thing about selling to 15-year-olds and 30-year-olds simultaneously.

I guess I see the fit point abt Santino's collection in retrospect. And he didn't defend against it, so I guess it sticks. But maybe he knew he had as little chance of winning, storyline-wise, as the judges did. And was fit really the point of his collection? I thought his whole show - the piercing eye-makeup, the flowing locks, the stunning models, the big walks, the subtly-stomping track - effectively sold this image that was simultaneously beautiful/glamorous (reflected in the fabulous gowns), a little punk (the raffish, perhaps kara-style, sweater stuff), and retaining a bit of soft femininity (the baby-dollish dresses). Women, yes, but super ones. Body shape is important to Chloe (ahem), but attitude is more important to Santino. Chloe wants to serve/sell to women. Santino wants to idealize/adore them.

So yes, Santino was very much about the show, but I fail to understand the idea that Chloe presented a more cohesive collection than he did. The theme was 'her fantasy'? It definitely reflected her personality/style - sort of crafty-sexy-cutesy - and I'll admit to not liking that style as much. But how does that have more depth than Santino? Is it a novel because it was quasi-Victorian? Yes, she elevated her particular approach (I hesitate to use the word shtick, though I think the judges used 'one-note'), but to a level that Santino had been on far more consistently than she had. And even at her most beautiful and intelligent, it was still pattern-oriented stuff. Hadn't Santino demonstrated greater range?

I thought it was clear that Tim knew Daniel was resting on his laurels and was trying to kick him out of his comfort zone. Which he appeared to have taken to heart in his last piece. Or was that more Nick's influence? On the whole he looked amateurish compared to the others.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 9 March 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Chloe never tried to do a "theme" with a title, she said that up front. But I think Santino didn't follow through on his, and Daniel changed his completely (maybe because he found out that he and Santino were both doing "40s Hollywood glamour"?) and then put together two mini-themes that shouldn't have gone together at all.

Listen, I hear what you are saying about the Santino / Chloe split, and there might be something to it. Also, yeah, Daniel won a lot of the challenges, and was generally flashier than Chloe, at least until he hit the wall 3/4 of the way through the year. But the challenges don't mean anything for the finale, in the same way that the team with the best regular season record doesn't just automatically win the playoffs.

Tim appears to agree with me...

Santino's collection is, in a word, magnificent. I could easily see it at Bergdorf Goodman or Saks Fifth Avenue. Was it the winning collection? Gasp, I hoped not. Huh? Why? Because, were Santino Rice to be declared the winner of Project Runway, then the season three auditions would be subtitled, "Project Freak Show." Step right up ladies and gentlemen. In this tent we have Jay McCarroll and over here we have Santino Rice. I love and respect Santino, but please don't let him win!

Oh god, if this is really teh reason the judges voted that way then screw that, that's not fair.

Yes, because fashion designers are known for being not-at-all eccentric. Can't encourage that.

Yes, because this isn't a television show and profit-making enterprise.

I don't think it really matters whether Santino 'won'. I think the show already made his star.

No, it's not fair, but their interest is really in protecting their professional identity & reputation - I wonder how much of a to-do there was behind the scenes when Jay didn't take the prize after Season 1, opting to break out on his own, and seemingly didn't have a lot of success at it. I'm sure Banana Republic was NOT happy about that.

I'm sure there was a lot of concern that Santino would've fought them over the prize and the strings attached - whereas a Chloe or a Kara Saun would be more willing to compromise and play the game, figuring (probably correctly) that it'll be to their benefit to do so.

Daniel.. didn't really think about his collection, did he? Japanese/military? this could cover so many things as to be nearly meaningless. Of course I didn't have the sense Santino or Chloe thought too much either..

I liked Chloe's babydoll dress with the pockets, maybe Diana's influence made it fun & interesting? Those printed fabrics Chloe used wers some of the most godawful prints I've ever seen in my life.

Chloe's collection was not to my taste, but I see how it could sway some people. Perhaps it could be seen as sort of like that Korean woman (I'm forgetting her name) who does similar stuff. The end of the season seemed really anticlimactic--I think because they finished all of the challenges and then spent a few weeks doing recaps and talk-abouts. I didn't realize that Jay didn't take the BR prize.

if I wanted to be mean, I'd say Chloe's theme was J. Peterman-meets-ABC Carpet & Home

yeah, they should have saved their meta for after 'the show'

when did Vosavic turn into such a chickenshit? it's like he and Santino traded placez. Top Chef was way more entertaining.

Milhouse is not a meme. But 'Milhouse is not a meme' IS a meme. (Adrian Langston, Thursday, 9 March 2006 19:00 (twenty years ago)

agreed to the notion that season 1's clothes owned season 2.

chloe consistently did it at least technically right. did santino ever live up to the hype? daniel did a few really good bits, but...
