nah, just visiting family and i figured i might as well pick up a gig as long as i was out there. although i'm planning on doing other weekend trips this summer and telling people it's a "tour".

Yeah. On Monroe & Colfax. It's pretty hipstery, but not disgustingly so.

yeahhh, it seems as though the Howling Hex are doing a weekly residency there in June. I am the only one in Denver excited about this, I think.

The same owners of Sputnik and Hi-Dive operate Lost Lake.

It's a bit more laid back and dingy, though.

The dude just moved out here or something? He's playing the Lion's Lair on the 20th of this month too. Saw him a few weeks back at the larimer lounge. pretty bizarre, but great --- had a backing band playing norteno kinda rhythms while he played psychedelic freak out guitar. there were about 12 people there.

somewhat OT: has hi-dive always used biker dudes as doormen?

hmm, i don't remember that. people working the door when i frequented there were frail indie types iirc.

they're sort of a hybrid. jeans jackets w/ patches and mutton chops, garnished with vans old skools.

no reason for asking, just curious. well, sort of - i kinda just wondered if having biker-dudes as doormen as just a "legacy" the venue wanted to continue onward. the dudes there today aren't very imposing and i hadn't really known they were biker-bros until i asked, jokingly, if all employees had to wear the same vest.

did they answer by beating you senseless with a pool cue?

whereas they reveled to me their being part of a biker gang and i had to feign interest as i asked if they rode harley's, the only brand i'm familiar with and likely will ever be

in other DENVER news, i totally saw the new TOYOTA ELEPHANT PASSAGE at the Zoo this weekend. It was cool, there were elephants. Only bummer was my toddler being subjected to a massive elephant erection. nothing a little therapy won't fix!

i'd venture onto 16th st mall to get an ice cream, but i am afraid i would vaporize just outside of republic plaza.

yeah it is fucking crazy out. whole state is on fire (in some places literally).

omg just remembered my 6 and 8 y/o are going to bandimere speedway dragstrip as a summer camp field trip today. wonder if it will be hot at high noon/104 deg/70 acres of blacktop. gonna have to pick them up using a spatula.
