which one makes you not want to live more?

Crush threads.

Yes, I know I start 75% of them, but still.

Mrs. Cranky (From Crankytown) (kate), Monday, 15 August 2005 11:12 (eighteen years ago) link

politics threads, but just barely.

It ain't worth killing yourself over ILX.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 August 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Religion threads are the worst for me, but of the two choices for this thread, I'd say film threads. Politics threads are lame but are easier for me to ignore. I get sucked into the film threads.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 15 August 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

hahahahaha. politics threads.

N_RQ, Monday, 15 August 2005 13:31 (eighteen years ago) link

definitely religion threads, but politics are second.

Maria (Maria), Monday, 15 August 2005 13:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Political threads make me want to kill, but religion threads make me want to die.

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Monday, 15 August 2005 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Political threads here are so circular frustrating and ultimately depressing that I rarely click let alone post.

but I VANT TO LIIIIIVE!!!

I only kill other people over ILX threads. Never myself.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Political threads used to be great here. I don't like getting all old/nu-ILX, since I still think of myself as one of the nu kids, but I do miss some people. The general film threads have been made thoroughly distasteful by a few people, so they feel more actively bad right now.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 15 August 2005 15:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Film threads.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 August 2005 16:00 (eighteen years ago) link

What particular suction am I missing on the film threads?

I don't mind either too much generally.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 15 August 2005 16:07 (eighteen years ago) link

these are two favorite types of threads on ILX! I am an intellectual masochist, I think.

richardk (Richard K), Monday, 15 August 2005 16:07 (eighteen years ago) link

i don't read the film or political threads anymore. i'm much happier. or the religion threads!

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 15 August 2005 16:13 (eighteen years ago) link

i start plenty of all three types.

it's the comedy threads that piss me off. What makes you laugh is seen as unfunny mouthbreather/lowest-common-denominator wankery by others, and therefore you're an idiot for liking such piffle.

and some don't have a problem telling you as such, in tone if not directly.

Political threads used to be great here

i'd love to see some evidence for this

kurious orange, Monday, 15 August 2005 16:44 (eighteen years ago) link

What particular suction am I missing on the film threads?

Why are they so horrid? I rarely if ever read them, so I guess I'm missing out on some *fuuun*, right?

bl0unt threads

ILX, Monday, 15 August 2005 16:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Go back to a lot of threads in the immediate wake of 9/11 for loads of great material. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the very best posters on political subjects have moved on, or post very little now.

But we all know you are Mike Paradinas!

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 15 August 2005 17:41 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm a contributor to some of the uglier film threads: my reaction here is, if you don't like a thread, make it better. why hold your tongue? get stuck in and make a bad thread good. if you don't have the game, you're part of the problem too.

Yeah, those are the worst. Even the film and political threads usually have a few posts of interest, but the spineless passive-aggression of the logged out threads are without worth.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Monday, 15 August 2005 18:29 (eighteen years ago) link

i don't even understand why some ilxors get so bitchy about "i'm logged out and i have a problem" threads -- erm, what's wrong if someone needs advice and doesn't want the entire internet to know their business? ilx didn't exactly invent the concept of the "anonymous agony-aunt letter."

sittin here la la waitin for my ya ya (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 15 August 2005 18:32 (eighteen years ago) link

how to put this: NEWSPAPERS MAKE THEM UP. and, maybe, oftentimes, LOGGED OUT IS MAKING SHIT UP TOO.

Enrique, naked in an unfamiliar future where corporations run the world... (Enri, Monday, 15 August 2005 18:39 (eighteen years ago) link

wow

kingfish completely hatstand (Kingfish), Monday, 15 August 2005 18:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I'd just like to say that all of *my* logged-out posts have been "completely true", in the sense that the only stuff I've invented *should* be obviously joking.

"I'm logged out and I have a problem" threads are, to my mind, the *only* reason for retaining the ability to post when logged out. They are a very, very strong reason, though. I really don't like "i'm logged out so that i can bitch about other people here" threads, although to be honest I can't promise that I've never done it. I can't remember whether I have or not.

ILX Slander Thread!

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Monday, 15 August 2005 18:46 (eighteen years ago) link

They all make me marvel at the variety and complexity of human experience. No, really. I love opening a thread with like 728 posts that I haven't read and finding some completely batshit pissing match going on and then tracing it backwards to its origins. I also love threads that start about one thing (hydro-politics in Cambodia or whatever) and turn into picture threads of people with gills and webbed feet. Those are my favorites.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 15 August 2005 18:51 (eighteen years ago) link

I guess politics threads take longer to scroll to the bottom with. And, therefore they cause me to use up more energy, and maybe shorten my life by nanoseconds. I dunno.
