(1) be indian, or of indian extraction; at the very least, adopt an indian-sounding name
(2) appear on oprah and similar shows; look mildly bored, but beneficent
(3) vagueness is next to godliness
(4) map terms from eastern philosophy (invented if necessary) onto familiar pop-psychological concepts
(5) name above the title, always
(6) divide books into brief sections suitable for reading on 30-minute morning commutes
(7) desk calendars

This is one of mine, too.

Dude, you've called down the thunder.

May the googlers take pity on your soul.

Is Chopra really that bad? Regardless of how he markets his wares, he's probably got some really good ideas.

you think so? i'm extremely skeptical. my sense is that he offers alternately the most banal "get up off your feet" prescriptions and dubious ways of reformulating (but not solving) various problems.

There was some kind of scandal wasn't there? There usually is.

He can't be any worse than the bozo who wrote the Celestine Prophecies. I'd like to kick that guy a little.

So what's this about his new course that will solve world peace?

(Hm, I do like my inadvertant phrasing. "World peace sucks! Let's fix that! By chanting!")

My President Palin would lead us through a national cleansing, like Chairman Mao's Cultural Revolution. Nothing as violent, however, not at first. Maybe she might let school kids scribble with crayons on the paintings in the Museum of Modern Art. I've never met a soccer mom who wanted a Picasso refrigerator magnet. Or she might close all the high-brow music schools and inaugurate the kind of music that gosh darn real Americans like: harmonica, the musical saw, and tapping your foot to the radio while driving a pickup. What more do we really need?

I liked Ben Levin's joke on Office Hours:

Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra are having a debate about who should be the next Pope.

"Vote Pope Oprah!"

"No Pope Oprah. Vote dope Pope Deepak Chopra!"

"Choke on okra! No pope Chopra. Vote dope Pope Oprah!"
