you presumably mean *nov* 26th, charlie?

i don't think you can buy nus advance tickets for fabric, but presumably showing an nus card on the door does the job.

who's coming to hawtin/villalobos, anyway?

that link, is a link to a search on ilx. perhaps a moderator might want to remove it, in case it slows the world down.

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 10 November 2005 19:53 (eighteen years ago) link

aren't any mods going to do something about this????

M.A.N.D.Y., Booka Shade, Guido Schneider, Unit 4 and more at Superfreq, The End Saturday 12/11.

This kinda tempts me even more than Garnier and co at the End. I need to make up my mind properly and also feel better but MANDY is kind of on my hitlist for way too long now.

I am!

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 18 November 2005 13:17 (eighteen years ago) link

yep
got to pick up my ticket at the venue somehow. does that mean joining the hideously long guestlist queue?

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 November 2005 14:07 (eighteen years ago) link

no! well, i've only done it once, which was for the birthday thing, and i walked up to the front of the queues at about 0050 and asked which queue was for ticket holders, and they pointed out a v short queue, and 5 mins later i was in. make sure you have the printout of the booking, though. you have to be there by 0100, i think.

i'm going to my best friend's birthday dinner party first, so i will probably turn up quite drunk sometime between twelve and one. guess i'll see whoever's there in the usual place (left hand side if facing stage)? texting works ok in the main room, anyway.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 18 November 2005 17:50 (eighteen years ago) link

the usual place is the left of the stage?!!

crazy times.

thanks for the printing tip, i would have never have done that. in fact, i may never do it as i dont have a printer now ive left work :(

ill work somethign out. i have attempted to contact you via Lex with my phone number. whats rickyt doing?

If anyone didn't make it to Fabric last night, then the Tea Bar on shoreditch high street / bethnal green road has this lot playing today:

RICARDO VILLALOBOS
MAGDA
TOBI NEUMANN
TROY PIERCE
GILES SMITH
JAMES PRIESTLEY

Possibly free, don't think I've been charged going in there before, but not too sure, the flyer doesn't have any door price on it. Midday to midnight, probably going to be very very messy.

MattR (MattR), Sunday, 20 November 2005 15:54 (eighteen years ago) link

this guy has a point, i think:

http://www.4four.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=8328

it was pretty good, but i was too full of food and kept getting stitch, so gave up at around 5. i'm pretty sure that's the fullest i've ever seen it - was so, so glad i had aticket, the queue at 1am was ridiculous. was it really that packed last year?!

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 20 November 2005 16:33 (eighteen years ago) link

At about 5am I was dancing in my sister's front room with a white rapper MCing over Voodoo Ray. Fabric did look good last night though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 20 November 2005 17:10 (eighteen years ago) link

God, it was waaaay too packed for my liking. The music was good though. And I met Ambrose! Hello! Sorry for looking scared when you asked me if I was me.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Sunday, 20 November 2005 19:54 (eighteen years ago) link

It was far too full. It definitely felt worse than it did for R+R last year. The music was ace though.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:30 (eighteen years ago) link

i had a great time! i only really started checking out r/r at about 4.30, but i stayed till the bitter end at half 8. Ricardo played Skream's 'midnight request line' right near the end. was a great moment.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 November 2005 11:57 (eighteen years ago) link

sorry guys, im not going to fabric again really. ive had enough. i loved magda when i walked in around 12.30 (fi it was her), for about 30 mins, but when i went back i just couldnt be fucked with it.

it soudns stupid but i just sort of resent the fact that to hear music i so completely enjoy, with such incredible sound, is just such an unpleasant place to be. i often look at people in fabric and only about 20% of people even seem to be smiling, or look like they are having fun. the rest are caught up in a maelstrom of pushing past, squeezing in, or just wandering around looking lost and defeated.

too many people last night i know, and it probably wouldnt be like that next time, but i just cant be bothered. everyone i know hates fabric, and i was the last cheerleader for it, i sort of liked the inhumanity of it, the machine like, unpleasant atmoshpere on the door and queuing systems, etc. but i think ive changed sides.

there isnt a solution really, i dont really think that fabric are to blame, if you have people queuing to get in at 4.30 having been there for 3 hours, then you are going to try and get them in for 15 pound a head. but i dont really want to be part of it.

sorry i didnt meet you toby, i left early at about 2.30, partly cos i was knackered from driving down, partly due to logistics with friends still in the queue. i appreciate that had i been i na better state i might have been better equipped to handle the crowds in the main room, but i still sort of feel "how on earth DO you have fun when all night, non stop, people are pushing past you one way or the other?", constant movement, not dancing, but just travel. i dont do any drugs so i wonder if that would take my mind off it, but whilst shutting my eyes and zoning out does help, and felt really good, it wasnt enough.

apparently matthew dear was firing, and i cant believe villalobos played that skream tune.

good to meet you marianna, albeit briefly. sorry it was a bit random to accost you in the middle of the busiest flow of people, but i thought i should say hello at least!

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 November 2005 12:07 (eighteen years ago) link

moral is: get there super super late. 4/5 maybe i guess. but im just too tired to handle that really.

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 November 2005 12:11 (eighteen years ago) link

the weekend was super crazy with things happening, and fabric was one of the things to fall by the wayside, partly because i wondered if it was going to be super packed and busy, so ended up at a party in palmers green, which was quite good, but didnt really spark either.

next weekend i think i may go to this night of charlies,

i think there was talk of going to The End on one of the first two weekends of december, i would be up for that.

this talk of packedness seems a shame, i dont really like things to be all uncomfortable like that, space is pretty important

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 21 November 2005 13:51 (eighteen years ago) link

when we left at 7am you could still barely move in the main room and yet that was significantly more space then there had been earlier. like everyone said, music was great but the place also attracts so many wankers - people getting aggro when someone pushes you onto their feet, beery unpleasant lads on the pull etc. i think and hope that they'll go the way of Ministry unless they moderate the amount of people they let in...

i do LOVE the way they get you reasonably priced cabs when you come out tho.

i have to say that i feel the same way, except i think i'm prepared to give it a few more goes - the fact that it's not much more than 20mins walk from home makes it easier to bear, and i do like that not having to queue if you have a ticket makes it easy to get in.

i dont do any drugs so i wonder if that would take my mind off it, but whilst shutting my eyes and zoning out does help, and felt really good, it wasnt enough.

yeah, same here. plus i just don't feel comfortable closing my eyes for longer than about 30 secs.

moral is: get there super super late. 4/5 maybe i guess. but im just too tired to handle that really.

yeah, i was thinking that, too. it doesn't sound like that would have worked that well on saturday, though. i guess i could go to bed at like 9pm on a saturday, set an alarm for 4, get up, go down to fabric for a few hours... but do they even go on past 7 most times?

i wonder if people would pay more to get in if they lowered the numbers? i certainly would.

also, did anyone go to the aftershow on sunday? i've never been to one - maybe i should try getting some sleep on a saturday night and then going out on a sunday afternoon sometime?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 November 2005 17:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I would definitely pay 20 quid for fewer people, but tbh, there would have had to have been only HALF the number of people in there for it to be really comfortable on Sat. The wanker level seemed higher than usual as well, tho maybe that was just a factor of the packedness. I'll still go back, but not for another R+R night.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 00:00 (eighteen years ago) link

ha, i'd pay 30 quid! i guess i'm probably in the minority though.

(btw ricky does that email address work?)

i may go to charlies thing later on, but i shall be at the medicine bar, shoreditch, first
