Sold Out also doesn't mean they won't be letting people in on the door. Never has in my experience, anyway.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:11 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah you just need to get there earlier.

Also a friend may have a spare for Todd Terje.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:33 (twelve years ago) link

Any idea how early? I've always been organised enough to get tickets in advance so I don't really know what time I'd need to show up to have a chance at getting tickets on the door.

salsa shark, Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:05 (twelve years ago) link

I'd say before 12 to be safe. Before 11:30 to be even more safe.

EDB, Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:14 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks! Would've gone before 11:30 even with a ticket, so no problems there.
Fingers crossed, really want to go to this.

Guardian find a trend for some dancing in bars and places without a late licence - micro-raves! Whatever next!

"dad raves"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 10:55 (twelve years ago) link

I remember when UK garage was really popular years ago there were really quite big day time events in west London for the asian population as it was taboo for going out late at night. Really though the Lock Tavern has had popular nights on a Sunday afternoon for years. It's hardly a new thing.

mmmm, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 10:59 (twelve years ago) link

As for people staying out all weekend, that's not new either. I only went a handful of times but Full Circle nr. Heathrow was crazy stuff.

mmmm, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 11:01 (twelve years ago) link

I am going crazy early to Terje. Fucked up and forgot to actually buy the tickets after organising a big meet up.

owenf, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 11:58 (twelve years ago) link

maybe i'll go and disguise myself as todd terje

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 12:50 (twelve years ago) link

the only problem i could see would be if i can't slip away and i end up led right onto the stage

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 12:53 (twelve years ago) link

egyptian lover last night was great fun, not sure about corsica as a venue, or maybe i'm not sure about how many tickets they sell, as i found myself squashed and doing some highly precarious dancing on the edge of a step. tbh i have some problems with i think all of the london nightclubs i've been to, maybe i'm just a priggish bastard.

michael nyman cat (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 22 April 2012 20:48 (eleven years ago) link

Nah, Corsica's pretty terrible in that respect.

EDB, Sunday, 22 April 2012 21:55 (eleven years ago) link

Bloc 2012: C/D?

EDB, Monday, 23 April 2012 09:43 (eleven years ago) link

The lineup's great but a) it's in the middle of fucking nowhere on a site that makes the Dome look accessible, and b) the fact that you can buy 'express tickets' that allow you to skip queues etc suggest it'll be a complete organisational shambles.

Also it's really expensive.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Monday, 23 April 2012 09:45 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe I just go to unpopular, niche, nights, but Corsica is usually fine for dancing when I go.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:05 (eleven years ago) link

Admittedly I haven't been for a while and maybe it's just by comparison with places like (the horrible, vile, revolting) XOYO but yeah, I would agree.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:14 (eleven years ago) link

true, Beyond the Clouds was perfectly fine. but the Terje night will be incredibly rammed - especially as they've completely forgotten to book anyone for room two

coal, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:18 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah it's not splitting the big draws out over both rooms that causes the issue, although Lowlife was sold out and that was alright WRT dancing space.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Monday, 23 April 2012 10:24 (eleven years ago) link

the number of london club venues that are actively pleasant is tiny though. east village and uhhh, ummm, er.

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 10:29 (eleven years ago) link

actively pleasant sounds like an unfairly high standard to set to me. i'll settle for a venue that's just not grim and hope the night i'm there for does the rest of the work.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:33 (eleven years ago) link

So tempted by Bloc. But kinda put off for the reasons Mr DC mentions.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Monday, 23 April 2012 11:24 (eleven years ago) link

incidentally what's happening in the dance tracks poll nominations thread? is it still just nominations? i can never bring myself to click on a thread with so many new answers

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 11:47 (eleven years ago) link

i haven't really been following it enough to know, but I kinda started losing interest when people were suggesting keeping it to house and techno (not that there's any prob with H&T but it does ignore huge swathes of potential noms for better or worse)

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Monday, 23 April 2012 11:56 (eleven years ago) link

i am hugely pro limiting it to house and techno, maybe i can psyche myself up to clicking on it again

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 11:59 (eleven years ago) link

seems like it'll be a good poll! so many classic tracks i'd forgotten about

xp to mattdc..... lowlife crew care about you having a good time though, it's not just about taking your money which is what puts me most of the big venues in london. don't really understand why you'd pay £15 to get into a place that's too rammed to dance and you can't sit and relax and talk. especially these massive event things where the big name djs usually end up playing boring crowd pleaser sets and everyone is just waiting for the hits. blah, not for me.

places i have enjoyed so far this year, boys club in dalston, passion in hackney, new empowering church. seating areas, buffet food, smoking indoors, byob, friendly people, no-name djs, no queues, no aggro.

Crackle Box, Monday, 23 April 2012 12:15 (eleven years ago) link

Plastic People still seems pleasant to me?

toby, Monday, 23 April 2012 12:36 (eleven years ago) link

do you still have to queue for 20 mins to get outside?

Crackle Box, Monday, 23 April 2012 12:49 (eleven years ago) link

not their fault btw, didn't the council impose some sort of zero tolerence bs on them or something? so security went into airport mode

Crackle Box, Monday, 23 April 2012 12:51 (eleven years ago) link

I still like The Nest.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 23 April 2012 12:55 (eleven years ago) link

does plastic people still have sauna-like temperatures and no air con?

yeah i like the nest.

smoking indoors = automatic disqualification from being considered pleasant

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 13:00 (eleven years ago) link

r|t|c, Saturday, 26 May 2012 15:38 (eleven years ago) link

the DARKEST, LOUDEST room imaginable. crazy selection of music: a lot of weird rare stuff i'd never heard but he dropped frankie goes to hollywood at one point heh. he just has the knack for making ppl dance. gay dudes making out at the front, rastas at the back smoking weed. worth the trip i promise!

tpp, Saturday, 26 May 2012 15:47 (eleven years ago) link

world unknown and body hammer are both great nights

coal, Saturday, 26 May 2012 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

two weeks pass...

So, I was pressured into going to Bloc (on the Friday only). Line up looks good, and hell if I managed to get home from the shit-pit that is Proud2 I should be able to get back from wherethehellthisplaceis.

mmmm, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 20:25 (eleven years ago) link

Not going to free rotation now, almost feel tempted by bloc but when it comes to it...no

coal, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 20:38 (eleven years ago) link

bloc line-up = YES
bloc everything else = uhhhhhh

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 13 June 2012 20:39 (eleven years ago) link

going to ikonika's ep launch @ rhythm factory this weekend, ft mr beatnick, d££mnds, optimum etc

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 13 June 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

Rhythm Factory must have a new booker, they have some great line ups now. Haven't been there for 18m or so although it's metres from my door..

mmmm, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 21:06 (eleven years ago) link

I walk past it every day and at some point in last couple months noticrd lineups were suddenly good

coal, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 21:12 (eleven years ago) link

also doing happy hour and Thai food again I see. The next Alfalfa night is a possibility.

mmmm, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 21:22 (eleven years ago) link

never heard of that night but i like xandru

coal, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 21:33 (eleven years ago) link

OK folks, what is up on Friday? i feel like dancing

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:24 (eleven years ago) link

ya i just came in to ask the same question! annual assessment panel on friday, PROPER MASH UP required for us all afterwards.

Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

rhythm factory is real close to me too! will keep a eye on the line-ups. could be a return to the golden (actually terrible) days when they were doing t bar at that place by aldgate.

hardhouse banter (tpp), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 18:49 (eleven years ago) link

i might go to that juan atkins things next friday

hardhouse banter (tpp), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

Goddamn it I'd love to go dancing Friday but as ever I'm too poor. Do let us know next time though. Am I too old to be going out all night to clubs at 31 (1/2)? I have no idea of the average age of London clubbers as most people may age from the area I live wouldn't be seen dead at a rave...
