maybe it's just the nights that i've been to but i've never had a problem with either the nest or corsica studios being too busy. kinda assumed the latter at least had a policy of not packing it to absolute capacity.

the sound in the nest doesn't really carry but i still rather liked it when i went last summer.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:18 (twelve years ago) link

the terje/geist is at corsica which normally lets a sensible number of ppl in. would definitely go but i'm busy that night.

i went to see aeroplane at the nest once at it was awful. couldn't move your arms.

art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:20 (twelve years ago) link

i went to corsica a month or so ago and the main dancefloor was mainly very unpleasant to "dance" in, i say dance, really it was shifting carefully in place, elbows tucked in, amazing sound though

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:24 (twelve years ago) link

corsica's been overfull the last couple of times i've been, kind of worried that it's a trend

uh oh i'm having an emotion (c sharp major), Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:29 (twelve years ago) link

the nest is better than bardens was. bardens soundsystem did my head in. as those interchangeable kingsland rd basements go, i think the nest is one of the better ones - i always feel relaxed in there. conversely how and why is the alibi still going, nothing about it is any good apart from, sadly, some of the people who choose to play there.

i can cosign the paramount views, gorgeous.

wish i could relocate corsica studios to somewhere slightly less hellish to get home from :(

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:29 (twelve years ago) link

The only time Corsica's felt really overfull to me was the Berghain/Panorama Bar night and that was sold out way way way in advance.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:37 (twelve years ago) link

i just miss having a slighter bigger basement venue on kingsland road. people are putting stuff on at power lunches but that place doesn't make enough money to pay people from outside of london/uk. alibi seems to be the place to go if you aren't too fussed about what music is playing. corsica's doing an awesome job with bookings; the egyptian lover night the week before geist/terje, the kompakt night this friday. i really love corsica, but i've never had an amazing time dancing there, the vibe is sometimes a bit hostile and you're constantly having to let people past/through.

Crackle Box, Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:42 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, that, really.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:53 (twelve years ago) link

basically i am just (predictably) trying to figure out if i should see optimo at dalston superstore a day before their lovebox gig, or the nest a month earlier

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:55 (twelve years ago) link

see optimo at every opportunity imo

Crackle Box, Thursday, 22 March 2012 11:56 (twelve years ago) link

^ gets it

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 22 March 2012 12:02 (twelve years ago) link

crackle box otm, i like todd terje but he's exactly the kind of dj i don't really want to go and see in london. i just assume nights like that will be too crowded and too full of fucked ppl who aren't bothered about dancing. this prob makes me sound like a dick but whatever. todd terje at a festival, or in another country, sure, bring it on etc. if it was just morgan geist on the bill it would prob be more fun :(

xp otm about optimo too, yep

jabba hands, Thursday, 22 March 2012 12:06 (twelve years ago) link

...who i just noticed are at corsica on easter thursday with weatherall and trickski. on the same night as carl craig doing 69 live, maya jane coles and appleblim at pulse...

― uh oh i'm having an emotion (c sharp major), Thursday, March 22, 2012

if they insist on putting big draws in room one and then people nobody cares about in room two then even if its not overfull in terms of the venue, then it will be in terms of that main room

coal, Thursday, 22 March 2012 13:21 (twelve years ago) link

yep, that was exactly the situation with move d, luckily danny native started playing in room two :D

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 22 March 2012 13:22 (twelve years ago) link

assume people are talking about the workshop night, actually tbf its not the same promoters each time, but even if they didn't oversell the venue, have you seen the line up for the second room at the Terje night? 2nd room is going to be empty apart from people who are there because room one is too crammed

coal, Thursday, 22 March 2012 13:25 (twelve years ago) link

s1ocki - if the weather is up for it, i'd recommend visiting some london parks, make sure you venture south of the river and then carry on to brighton cuz that's easy/fun.

sort of the wrong thread but brighton as a day trip sounds fun for sure. what parks do you mean?

(perhaps we should continue this here? London )

lex pretend, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 09:45 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks pass...

argh todd terje/morgan geist sold out :(

anything else going on that weekend/week?

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 16:40 (twelve years ago) link

on the friday there's some kind of deviation/hyperdub thing ft. omar-s, ikonika, cooly g, ill blu, funkystepz, martyn etc. "warehouse location tbc".

jackmaster and oneman at the nest should be good if that's not sold out, pretty small venue for them.

slocki is it the end of apr or may you're around?

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 20:34 (twelve years ago) link

(i thought it was may but if you're asking about that weekend it's apr)

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 20:35 (twelve years ago) link

april 24-may 4!!

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 20:38 (twelve years ago) link

sadly only contains one weekend because of a wedding im djing on may 5

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 20:38 (twelve years ago) link

omar-s, ikonika, cooly g, ill blu, funkystepz, martyn etc

I'm meh on Cooly G and probably Ikonika as a DJ but this is one hell of a lineup.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 April 2012 09:36 (twelve years ago) link

Sold Out also doesn't mean they won't be letting people in on the door. Never has in my experience, anyway.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:11 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah you just need to get there earlier.

Also a friend may have a spare for Todd Terje.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:33 (twelve years ago) link

Any idea how early? I've always been organised enough to get tickets in advance so I don't really know what time I'd need to show up to have a chance at getting tickets on the door.

salsa shark, Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:05 (twelve years ago) link

I'd say before 12 to be safe. Before 11:30 to be even more safe.

EDB, Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:14 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks! Would've gone before 11:30 even with a ticket, so no problems there.
Fingers crossed, really want to go to this.

salsa shark, Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:18 (twelve years ago) link

Guardian find a trend for some dancing in bars and places without a late licence - micro-raves! Whatever next!

mmmm, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 07:19 (eleven years ago) link

"dad raves"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 10:55 (eleven years ago) link

I remember when UK garage was really popular years ago there were really quite big day time events in west London for the asian population as it was taboo for going out late at night. Really though the Lock Tavern has had popular nights on a Sunday afternoon for years. It's hardly a new thing.

mmmm, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 10:59 (eleven years ago) link

As for people staying out all weekend, that's not new either. I only went a handful of times but Full Circle nr. Heathrow was crazy stuff.

mmmm, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 11:01 (eleven years ago) link

I am going crazy early to Terje. Fucked up and forgot to actually buy the tickets after organising a big meet up.

owenf, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 11:58 (eleven years ago) link

maybe i'll go and disguise myself as todd terje

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 12:50 (eleven years ago) link

the only problem i could see would be if i can't slip away and i end up led right onto the stage

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 12:53 (eleven years ago) link

egyptian lover last night was great fun, not sure about corsica as a venue, or maybe i'm not sure about how many tickets they sell, as i found myself squashed and doing some highly precarious dancing on the edge of a step. tbh i have some problems with i think all of the london nightclubs i've been to, maybe i'm just a priggish bastard.

michael nyman cat (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 22 April 2012 20:48 (eleven years ago) link

Nah, Corsica's pretty terrible in that respect.

EDB, Sunday, 22 April 2012 21:55 (eleven years ago) link

Bloc 2012: C/D?

EDB, Monday, 23 April 2012 09:43 (eleven years ago) link

The lineup's great but a) it's in the middle of fucking nowhere on a site that makes the Dome look accessible, and b) the fact that you can buy 'express tickets' that allow you to skip queues etc suggest it'll be a complete organisational shambles.

Also it's really expensive.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Monday, 23 April 2012 09:45 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe I just go to unpopular, niche, nights, but Corsica is usually fine for dancing when I go.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:05 (eleven years ago) link

Admittedly I haven't been for a while and maybe it's just by comparison with places like (the horrible, vile, revolting) XOYO but yeah, I would agree.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:14 (eleven years ago) link

true, Beyond the Clouds was perfectly fine. but the Terje night will be incredibly rammed - especially as they've completely forgotten to book anyone for room two

coal, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:18 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah it's not splitting the big draws out over both rooms that causes the issue, although Lowlife was sold out and that was alright WRT dancing space.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Monday, 23 April 2012 10:24 (eleven years ago) link

the number of london club venues that are actively pleasant is tiny though. east village and uhhh, ummm, er.

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 10:29 (eleven years ago) link

actively pleasant sounds like an unfairly high standard to set to me. i'll settle for a venue that's just not grim and hope the night i'm there for does the rest of the work.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 23 April 2012 10:33 (eleven years ago) link

So tempted by Bloc. But kinda put off for the reasons Mr DC mentions.
