I must have got my bone on six times!

Utter genius of a strip. Have bought too many tshirts, strips, posters and books. Damn you Onstad, you're bankrupting me!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 2 March 2006 10:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Argh, I've just remembered the dream I was having last night in which Achewood had to finish because Chris Onstad ran out of money! The very last page just said something like "Sorry, that's it!"

FINALLY got into this strip on the fourth of july when i had the whole day off and nothing to do with it but read ACHEWOOD! best so far (besides the badass games): ray all entering into a rap battle with little nephew over LN's "fuck algebra" album and then after drilling him with like six consecutive verses suddenly busting into this thing

Ah God, it's when they're in Germany and Ray asks why the fries-salesman is shouting at him. Figures that he must think Ray is touched in the head and RB says "he is definitely seeing an apartment with posters of owls..." Brilliant. If really badly told by me.

Trayce, keep at it! So much good awaits you.

I read a good chunk of it until I gave up hope and bailed on it. It seemed to me he was trying much too hard to write comically, rather like a stand-up comic who constantly inserts long pauses in the story in order to pull a 'funny' face and stare at the audience, begging for laughter.

Every time I relate to Onstad he throws out some bit of internal cruelty or half-recanted aloofness for the human condition that turns me off until the next moment, the point where someone gets mad rutty with a bank teller

Are the printed editions that were supposed to begin dropping last year still coming? Anyone like sic know why the Fantagraphics series petered out so soon?

The complete collections were due to start in June 2020; one can only guess at forces that may have delayed the first one, especially if the editor was traveling to the US to work on it.

Dark Horse did the fizzled-out hardcovers. Onstad is selling the original tape-bound books for $225-250 rn, and dropped a new issue of Beef’s zine in 2020.
