Halo 2

I'm not going to have time for it, between GTA, Half Life 2, and the soon to arrive Nintendo DS, so I guess I'll wait for the PC release before I play it. But still, i figure it deserves a thread of its own. Out in the UK tomorrow, although some places have started selling it this afternoon. Here is where you can tell me all about it so I can enjoy it vicariously through everyone else. Who's excited?

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't get a chance to pick it up yesterday because I had dinner with my folks last night, but tonight is exclusively devoted to Halo 2.

Luckily, I don't have a PS2, I don't use my PC for gaming, and I have no interest in the DS, so I'm straight.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm waiting until i finish gta:sa to buy it.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I played it last night, did the first two levels co-op. It's pretty much an expansion for Halo 1 (the weapons, enemies and textures look very similar) but the level design seems much better. The end of the second level is just off the hook. Me and my buddy had to go outside and smoke a cigarette after it was over.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Also the music is bumpin'.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad they improved the level design.

Dan I., Wednesday, 10 November 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone played online with Xbox Live? How well does that auto-game-matching shit work?

W i l l (common_person), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll let you know tonight!

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the cut-scene after the first level with the BOMB is insane. really.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

jordan, let's get some xbox live action going.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm down, my user name is crunkBeatz, I believe (haven't signed on in a few months).

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i got this played it all last night. its the greatest thing ever i think.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 11 November 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

does anybody else play Star Wars: Battlefront?

kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 11 November 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I play both, Mr Salmon. My username is Mikey Bidness or mikeybidness, try either.

Halo 2 on Live is pantshittingly good. By that, I mean you will withold bowel movements to get those few extra minutes of play, screaming around levels, piloting a Warthog, running over little newbs with names like METHDUDE38 and hearing them scream as they are wasted.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 11 November 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

...and how about an ILX clan. Nothin' serious, just a bunch of guys who can go ripping people out of ghosts flying at 300mph, screaming 'CLASSIC OR DUD, C/D BITCH?'

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 11 November 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I misread this thread as Hallo 2 (as in hello)

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 11 November 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm on SW:BF as "Beavis"

kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 11 November 2004 06:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it may have been a little ambitious of me to start on Heroic level, it was slow going (though I spent most of my time on live, admittedly).

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 06:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I WANT TO PLAY THIS ALREADY

W i l l (common_person), Thursday, 11 November 2004 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Dearest Bungie,
What's up with the dpad? Some of us are left-handed and we used it to locomote Master Chief. We were good at it, and accustomed to its feel and to holding the controller a certain way. Its loss caused confusion and some unnecessary grief. We could understand if you had given the dpad new functionality, but it sits there useless, like a third testicle.

Other than that, congratulations on a fine, addictive product.
Best,
W i l l

Have you tried the different control schemes? There seems to be a lot of them.

I'm still getting my ass pretty well kicked online, and in the campaign I switched from grinding ever so slowly through Heroic mode to FLYING through it on Normal.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 14 November 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Halo 2 is really, really good. The best thing to do online is 1v1 slayer, where you and an opponent hunt each other in an empty map. Totally nerve-wracking. Of course, after the first couple of days of 1v1 play everyone figured out that the only weapons worth using were the sword and the sniper rifle, maybe the shotgun, so now its all about getting to them first. CTF kicks ass as well.

My Live username is Spacelegoman so add me if you're online.

DougD, Sunday, 14 November 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

All the control schemes are the same as in Halo, except that the dpad no longer does anything. I use Southpaw and I've pretty much gotten used to using the joystick instead of the dpad, it's not that big of a deal. I still don't understand why they did it.

Online is pretty sweet. I play at my friend's b/c I don't have an Xbox, and of course we have to do training ground when I'm playing b/c I don't have an Xbox Live account either. I can only imagine how much cooler it is playing for ranking. We played a game with a Bungie employee last night. He was just sick with the sword.

W i l l (common_person), Sunday, 14 November 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

LETS DO THIS ILX CLAN.

my gamertag is "feud"

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 14 November 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I the only person that thinks this is harder than the original?

I've only played this on live twice so far. As far as I can tell I need to play it a damn sight more to be any use, but I'd be up for an ILX clan. My gamertag is treefell

Greig (treefell), Thursday, 18 November 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I the only person who didn't know you could get your xbox live stats from the bungie.net site?
You can find anyone's stats if you know their gamertag from this search here:
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/PlayerFinder.aspx

Greig (treefell), Saturday, 20 November 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Normal level is easier than the original, Heroic is WAY HARDER.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

JORDAN I SENT YOU A MSG

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 20 November 2004 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:24 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: Playing custom games with your friends vs. team games against other people.

All my friends (we're usually only on one or two at a time, though) seem to only want to play team games against others, which is fine, except we've been SUCKING ASS at them lately. I'll feel okay when I play solo, when I can be a little more calculating and self-serving, but in team games the people we get stuck with never seem to work together and I get shot in the back of the head a lot.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 29 November 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It's easier in team games with a voice headset thingy. You can direct the idiot 14 year olds you get stuck with and make them productive. If your team communicates alot, eg which side the enemies are attacking from, where the flag is etc, you'll win alot more.

What should we name our clan?

DougD, Monday, 29 November 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)
