USENET = old school decentralized discussion forums. Home to the worst sort of spam and Internet trolling, but like a good cockroach a near-impossible protocol to kill. Check some of the other usenet posts here then search on NZB files.

does that leave pirate bay as the only somewhat comprehensive site left??

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:32 (fourteen years ago) link

does waffles exist anymore?

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 6 December 2009 16:36 (fourteen years ago) link

I think I pretty much only use torrents to compensate for my lack of cable television these days. 3ztv.it for American TV, th3b0x.bz for British TV, my$pl33n.cc for comedy/animation. t0rr3ntz.com is the best search engine at the moment.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 6 December 2009 17:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, I've switched over to Torrentz. DO waffles and what still exist? I still to this day haven't found a suitable OiNK replacement, other than slsk which I don't love.

And demonoid's not gone, apparently! It's just on a looooong hiatus.

Udon Nomi (Stevie D), Sunday, 6 December 2009 18:25 (fourteen years ago) link

What and Waffles still exist. What has over 100,000 users and is just as good as Oink ever was.

svend, Sunday, 6 December 2009 18:27 (fourteen years ago) link

I got an invite to waffles recently but it didn't work for whatever reason : /

since Comcast started sandvining I can't really torrent anymore, it kills the internet connection for the whole house if I run one.

sleeve, Sunday, 6 December 2009 19:38 (fourteen years ago) link

it does seem that torrents are on the way out. is there a new next big file-sharing thing that'll take over or has the war been lost?

NI, Sunday, 6 December 2009 19:54 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm just trying to find "cuisine et dependances" which is not available at my local video store, nor available on lovefilm. it is available on amazon.fr, but without english subtitles. if i had a rip, i'd be able to score english subtitles..

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:12 (fourteen years ago) link

tht's up (but unseeded) on karagarga, not tht tht helps u sorry

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:41 (fourteen years ago) link

"since Comcast started sandvining I can't really torrent anymore, it kills the internet connection for the whole house if I run one."

Comcast doesn't sandvine anymore, but that isn't the problem you are having anyways. Your client has too many connections open and your router can't handle it. Try lowering the number to about 150-200 or so. You also need to set your upload limit to about 75-80 percent of your max upload. That way others in your house can use the internet.

rapidshare and its various cousins are def growing in popularity - but they just seem too shitty to ever get really big

ice cr?m, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:44 (fourteen years ago) link

being limited to downloading one thing at a time from rapidshare is the biggest drawback alongside the slow slow speed

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:49 (fourteen years ago) link

jdownloader is useful for rapidshare etc

mookieproof, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:50 (fourteen years ago) link

if u pay u get multiple downloads and faster speeds is my understanding - tho obv paying is a huge roadblock - also there doesnt seem to be any good way to search/aggregate

ice cr?m, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:52 (fourteen years ago) link

thanks svend, will try that

xp

sleeve, Sunday, 6 December 2009 21:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh: forgot $0n0f$hun.com, which I don't use much, but it's where Daily Show, Colbert, and a lot of documentary stuff gets uploaded.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 6 December 2009 22:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Searching for filedumps is terrible. But if you find the right sites/forums (many of which are googleable) for these filedumps and scene releases, that + jdownloader are all you need - the program even autoupdates every week or so in a tug of war with the filesharing sites as it kills its captchas. Damned if I'm gonna pay for a rapidshare "premium account" or some such though. Might as well go the Usenet route then.

tehparadox dot com is a good community for the rapidshare style things. you have to join, which is very easy to do. lots of good applications, games, movies, even comics. Just be wary of posted files from dubious as you would torrents. they moderate it thoroughly too. It's the best site for mac warez that requires no invitation that i've found. just have to tolerate waiting a while because of the rapidshare/hotfile/megaupload services.

bought danny baker audiobook (£25) but want to read on kindle too (£10). begrudge paying twice for same(ish) product, esp as virtual item costs more than hardback (£9.30). with this in mind, are there any private ebook torrent sites out there? seems be fuck all since death of demonoid.

NI, Saturday, 29 December 2012 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

if i were to google danny baker audiobook torrent i'd be very confident of getting a hit or two

your confidence is misplaced, darraghmacson

checked out thegeeks, looks good. no danny there either though. seems somehow the publishing industry has won and a solid source of pirated ebooks simply doesn't exist. guess it's kinda good in a way, keeps artists/writers going. (but in this niche instance it's a right pain in the arse)
