Senior Superlatives!

Did you have this section in your high-school yearbook? You know, Best Smile, Best Athlete, Class Clown, Cutest Couple, etc.

And were you selected in any of the categories? I was not, but sources told me that I was the runner-up for Most Likely to Succeed and Best Actor (or Most Likely to Win an Oscar, or whatever it was). Both categories were won by an ex-friend of mine/arch-rival, so I was none too pleased. (I'm not sure what he's doing now, but I know it took him six years to finish college, heh.)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 16 September 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually was "most creative" and because we had a boy and a girl for each category i got to share the yearbook photo with my good friend laura wh3tz3l!! we both decided to wear berets for it

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Thursday, 16 September 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

laura was more creative than me though because she was really excellent at calculus and she actually "tutored" me almost every week (trans - i watched over her shoulder while she did her homework; no doubt my parents tht something was "going on" but nothing ever was, in that regard)

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Thursday, 16 September 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I won Best Butt.

(Part of that sentence is true.)

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 16 September 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I was voted Most Likely To Be A Serial Killer.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 16 September 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

did you wear a beret?

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Thursday, 16 September 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"Most likely to succeed in spending his 20s posting on internet message boards inhabited by the boy second most likely to win an oscar"

oops (Oops), Friday, 17 September 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Leee is a nut
He has a rubber butt!
And every time he turns around
it goes putt-putt!"

Sorry I couldnt help myself :(

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 17 September 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Being serious though - we didnt have such things in our yearbook (the year 10s did the yearbook when I was in yr 12 and they did a shite job of it that year - tried to do a DTP version for the first time and stuffed it up badly).

We did however have similar categories as awards at our yr 12 formal. I was voted "most arty farty". At my school, wearing black made you a "fuckin weirdo", this was just their polite way of saying "most fucking weirdass bitch".

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 17 September 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm British. We don't indulge in such folly.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 September 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

That is why Dom (who is also British, you know) is lying.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 September 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah Trayce!

(I mean the Simpsons post.)

To spill the catbag: my junior high yearbook actually did have a Best Butt category. Alas alack, my bum in truth garnered no laurels.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 17 September 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

We didn't have them, and I find it hard to guess what I might have won. Maybe funniest. If there was a 'Best at annoying the staff' category I'd have walked it. What were the traditional categories, or did they just try to give some 'Best...' to each student?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 September 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually Adam, we had them like Trayce did, at our year 13 ball. I was runner up for Most Likey To Succeed. I think this is mostly because they tried to pick one nominee from each social group and people liked me, so I got a fair few votes. The actual winner was Jenny Turnbull, who went to Cambridge and was our sixth form president. I have a feeling somone told me she's a doctor now, but I couldn't be sure.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 17 September 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I was a co-editor of the yearbook, and we did a take-off on senior superlatives. I was "Most Likely To Emerge From A Revolving Door".

aimurchie, Friday, 17 September 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I won a couple of firsts

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i got voted "Biggest slacker" of my university halls of residence.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

A few years back some school administrator or other had decided that having superlatives was bad for everyone's self esteem and/or might trigger gang warfare (slightly exagerating. not exactly sure what the real reasons were) so when I was in high scool we didn't have "best smile" or "best butt". Instead we had "[insert positive adjective like shiny here] smile" and whatnot. Oh and I still didn't win any. *sniff*

mouse (mouse), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"Most likely to succeed in spending his 20s posting on internet message boards inhabited by the boy second most likely to win an oscar"

Oops, you know who the fucker was that won, right?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

We did however have similar categories as awards at our yr 12 formal. I was voted "most arty farty". At my school, wearing black made you a "fuckin weirdo", this was just their polite way of saying "most fucking weirdass bitch".

At my high school, this category was "Most Original," haha.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"most likely to leave his alma mater $50 million."

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"most likely to require immunization"

Tonight at ten (kenan), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It was Battista, right? (were there three t's in his name? did i put them in the right place?) I didn't have any sort of social relations with him after 8th grade, so I don't really know why he was such a bastard. But I'm dying to know! (I think I have some idea)

oops (Oops), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, you're right, it was him. (And you spelled it correctly.) I don't even really remember what my grudge with him was! We were really good friends freshman and sophomore year, and then we had a falling out mid-junior year -- again, I don't totally remember why. I think he was jealous of my relationship with Stac!e Fr33man. Also, sometimes he'd get all paranoid and accusatory for no good reason. His parents were both pretty nuts -- his mom once refused to let him study after school with Raj Bh@g@t, because "you can never trust those Indians; they just want to cheat off you."

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Stac!e Fr33man is the most wholesome high school girlfriend name ever. OMG did you hold hands?! *giggle*

Tonight at ten (kenan), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, on the bus, underneath my jacket!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, we only dated for like five months, and then for the rest of high school we were "best friends" (wink wink).

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost) In this scenario, was your hand actually your penis?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Batista went on to be a big heel in the WWE.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I was only at Ryan's house once and don't remember his parents. He lived very close to me and I remember he'd ride his bike past my house a few times while I was shooting hoops.
a nice wholesome interracial relationship yay!!

I never even knew you two were involved! There really should have been some sort of "who ya screwin?" bulletin board.

oops (Oops), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

We did have these awards, I think they were designed solely to encourage lots and lots of bridge burning. I did not wear a beret during my time at high school, although I did wear a haircut that led me to on occasion be referred to as "Danny Baker".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

we didn't have superlatives, but there is a picture of me in my senior yearbook happily about to saw off my left hand using the circular saw! actually there are a fair number of pictures of me in my senior yearbook because a friend of mine was the photo editor.

amateur!!st, Friday, 17 September 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

amateur!!st, Friday, 17 September 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

amateur!!st, Friday, 17 September 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Tonight at ten (kenan), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)
