A long shot about Kenneth Williams on BBC7

I was listening to the tribute to Kenneth Williams on BBC7 about a week ago, and he did this great bit where he plays this guy sinking into madness and thinking he was the King of Spain. It was great - like a proto Blue Jam - and very sppoky and clever. However, I failed to catch the name of it or anything - does anyone know what it might be, and where I might be able to obtain it, and stuff?

this may well have been from the 'Round The Home' series he did in the 60s.

i've got a BBC Radio Anniversary CD with some other material featuring Williams on it - I used some of it in a mix I did last year - not especially hilarious or anything but probably from the same show, will see if I can find it.

It wasn't particulary funny - it was scary and nasty, and not like Round the Horne at all. I think the announcer fella said it was from the early 70s - I don't think around the Horne carried on till then, did it?

xpost - that's cool stevem, see if there's anything hidden away there.

"Then again, anyone who heard Williams's 1963 recording of Gogol's Diary of a Madman would have known differently. A clip from this, one of the great sonic masterpieces in the history of audio - all echoes, swirling strings, and Williams howling his heart out, his voice in tune with the chaos - closed the first part of The Private World of Kenneth Williams, leaving us both awed and chilled."

Why don't you email Radio 7? The BBC are often good at replying to queries like this.

That looks like the one Koogs, thanks. It also looks like it hasn't been released and it's stuck in the BBC vaults somewhere - hmm, annoying.

The BBC need to let us get our hands on the archive - it's v. annoying.

Oh, it was a good fortnight ago I would imagine. I looked on the listen-back page - didn't seem to be there. I'll keep my ear to the ground - maybe its floating around on PZP or something.
