yeah in their case I think the "we make fun of everybody!" defense reinforces a false equivalency

we make fun of everyone, black, white, poor, rich, purple

I used to be poor and purple when I was young!

can somebody point me towards the thread where people were inventing nonsense platitudes and idioms in the vein of 'he who looks a raven in the eye on a thursday will let Friday's porridge oats go cold'?

on the "artist picture facebook" image macro laff thread there was one a year or so ago that was particularly good: something like, "if a woman walks away, she's either..." and then there were like 3 things that were nonsensically and ungrammatically listed and very grim or at least uninspirational. like, screaming or dying inside was one of them?

anyone?

goole, Monday, 12 October 2015 15:01 (eight years ago) link

You remember "This is dog" ?

There was a photostrip thing which had captions, from "Dracula" Gary oldman, can't find it

Last time I looked, I found the movie clip instead.

You know, .. "It's A Joke!"

does anyone remember the name of the thread where la lachera learns how to play drums and other ilx drum people offer tips and links to cool drum things? i'm afraid i can't compensate you for your help, as i blew all of my remaining GP on chainmail and tents, and i have far to go on this journey. however, i can offer you some information: the water fountain in the ancient town of borad is not merely broken, as many of the inhabitants believe. in fact, it is being used as a secret passageway between the village square and the building where the town's erstwhile mayor is being held under house arrest. i can tell you more, but only if you also tell me the name of the drum thread so i can post my cool link. #resist

i'm generally not a big fan of the "it works despite its flaws" genre of art criticism and thought this was pretty much maudlin trash but i'm glad it was meaningful to other people

― k3vin k., Sunday, June 18, 2017 5:36 PM (twenty-two minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

this got me thinking about how lots of the art that is most 'meaningful' to me is stuff that I would probably struggle to defend from criticisms that it was maudlin/trashy/badly-made etc, is there a thread about flawed art that is meaningful to you? (specifically 'meaningful', as distinct from stuff you appreciate on a so-bad-it's-good level, if that's a legitimate distinction?)
