I was disturbed to discover a juice bar in the airport on Friday called Love Juice.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 14 June 2004 11:46 (sixteen years ago) link

That's to get the mile-highers in the mood and lubricated.

penelope_111, Monday, 14 June 2004 11:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I haven't heard the expression "love juice" since I was 16.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 14 June 2004 11:47 (sixteen years ago) link

i had a layover in Dallas. they have the fucking coolest thing. the Aqua-Massager,. you lay in this waterproof sleeping bag type thing with all your clothes on in the middle of the airport and get pelted with hard streams of water while everyone can watch. very weird. had it been a little more private, i woulda thought it was kinda cool

I'm currently in front of gate 210 in ONT waiting on JetBlue to take me to JFK.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 04:45 (sixteen years ago) link

The ONT terminal is nice in a late-90s shopping mall sort of way, but the layout is horrible with one long linear line of gates so you have to walk miles. Additionally, there are no electrical power outlets near the seating, you have to sit on the floor in the middle of the walkway.

At least the wireless is free.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 04:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, there's an ant problem here too.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 04:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Hell yes, it's ant season. Mine's coming for a stay next week.

Have a good time in NYC, Elvis.

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 23 July 2004 04:51 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a LOT of ants here. If this was anything smaller than a giant airport terminal building we'd be re-enacting Phase IV here.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:01 (sixteen years ago) link

What kind of ants and what's the nature of your trip?

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Standard-sized house ants.

Going to NYC to see JBR, take more of my stuff out in advance of the October move, and to go see Devo & the Yeah Yeah Yeahs(as mentioned on this thread)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I also win because I was able to score an exit row seat at the last minute. Hooray for extra leg room!

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Leg room is a big plus So's the Devo date. Exactly when are they playig?

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Friday night in Central Park with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There's an ILM thread about it.

Anyway, getting on the plane now

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Happy landings!

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Make that 100, and you'd be right.

(Wish I'd actually thought to look for this thread on Thursday, when I was actually in an airport.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:18 (fourteen years ago) link

lol nice to see gatwick pretending that dude approached staff entrance where officers then tazed him. what actually happened was security let him walk through staff entrance (i don't blame them he had 2 huge knives and security are unarmed and don't have stab vests) dude then proceeded to wander around dept lounge threatening shop workers and cleaners before eventually making his way back to the staff entrance where the police arrived and tased him.

Narita ftw

I will be at both Narita and Haneda on friday.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 09:50 (eleven months ago) link

i'd take haneda over narita any day but i've had to use narita already twice this month for the tokyo to beijing through incheon flight (and tokyo to xi'an through incheon).

incheon has jamba juice and quiznos which is novel coming from japan

XxxxxxxXxxxxxxxxXxxxx (dylannn), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 14:23 (eleven months ago) link

I have the misfortune of landing at Narita and flying out of Haneda, no biggie, just 2 hours on the Keisei and Keikyu thinking about what to get for lunch.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 20:46 (eleven months ago) link

dylannn OTM. Narita is only convenient if you have in-laws in Chibaken.

I'd even take KIX over NRT.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 25 August 2019 18:41 (eleven months ago) link

when i went to japan last month i flew into haneda and was impressed with how quickly everyone was processed through customs and was still treated with more dignity there than by cbp in the us.

Carisis LaVerted (m bison), Sunday, 25 August 2019 18:46 (eleven months ago) link

I’m thinking my flight tomorrow is one where I’ll go through US customs in Canada, which always seems a little funny but whatever

it took a lot longer to buy my bus pass at trudeau/montreal than it did to go through canadian customs!

had my first experience using global entry last week, was glad I got it, it made US customs a lot less painful

Dan S, Sunday, 25 August 2019 21:35 (eleven months ago) link

i went throigh us customs yesterday

granted 5 planes unloaded at the same time but still - we had 4, wait no he left so 3, oop he left now too so make that 2 inspectors operating for half the entire hall ... stood in that godawful room for 90 minutes before passing through

assclowns

also they’ve overhauled every nook & cranny of that airport EXCEPT for the customs area. except for the passport kiosks it’s exactly the same as it was in 2002 when i immigrated. hated it then, hate it now

hopefully it'll be much better in montreal!

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 2 February 2020 12:00 (six months ago) link

I’d generally say I would never stoop to wearing perfume found at airports but I am passing through Doha so perhaps they have the good stuff.

I’m going to Bali and afaik there have been no cases of coronavirus at all in Indonesia so far but two thirds of the conference attendees are from Australia and the rest are from various parts of Asia so there is probably a perceived risk much stronger than any actual risk.

On my way to the airport. I'm wondering how apocalyptic it'll be.

romanesque architect (pomenitul), Friday, 13 March 2020 06:38 (five months ago) link

Feel you might be disappointed if the airports here are anything to go by these days. Unless you really sense the coming apocalypse in everything being near-empty and eerily quiet? But do share if everything's ablaze (and pick a nice bm record to accompany the scene)! Bon chance, man.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 13 March 2020 08:02 (five months ago) link

Thanks! I'll find out in a few minutes… But yeah, it's way likelier to be a whimper rather than a bang, as ever. With a bit of luck our plane will empty a swell.
