if you asked me if i prefer (subject) genius/artist or a well grounded, normal, determined, productive person, i would choose the latter

in practice, eugenics always selects genes based on 'demonstrated fitness', not from examining anyone's genes. being poor, illiterate, or physically handicapped in any way is considered a prima facie proof of your unfitness. fwiw altho there's no consensus in the literature it seems like most scholarship in the field has found that EI is hereditary as well

filial piety is a theory on how to build a good society

it's a lot more common in the eastern world (asia) and sommers brings in a more western style because it's not as common in the us/canada
