I rather enjoyed that footage of her looking back after being shot at that they showed last night. I mean, it was dramatic, not that I want her to be shot or anything.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 21 April 2006 09:06 (sixteen years ago) link

The Royal Standard being raised over Windsor Castle was introduced this morning as "BREAKING NEWS", followed by some old dears from Tunbridge Wells who'd left home at 4a.m. to make sure they got good flag waving seats saying things like "ooh she's lovely" and "we love the queen" followed by speculation about whether the weather would hold or not. I felt rather unpatriotic for eating Kellogs Fruit & Fibre on such a British morning.

i guess those were the only two people on the seats outside the castle on Breakfast this morning...

(i did wonder about the security of windsor castle this morning when i saw it - there's nothing but a lawn between the road and the castle. then i realised IT'S A CASTLE, how much more secure do you get?)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 21 April 2006 09:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I remember a few years back they interviewed asylum seekers and asked them what the one person they associated the UK with was. The queen came fourth I think, behind Thatcher, the Spice Girls, and Mr Bean.

OK, I'll respond, since you make an issue of it. Your post, which you helpfully linked a short time ago, was responding to mine. But his contention was that your post was so damning that it caused me to flee the thread. Your post appeared on September 12, 2022 1:58 AM, my local time. I had already responded to Zelda's polite correction to my mistaken views, with which I agreed, and I had stopped posting six hours earlier. This hardly matches his version of my being trounced by your links and slinking off in shame.

ffs they still had a minute's applause at the start of Scotland v Ukraine game, how long is this shite going to go on? For those unfamiliar with the concept, a minute's applause is the fallback when the authorities aren't confident a minute's silence is going to be observed, and indeed the applause just about drowned out the boos.

calzino, Wednesday, 21 September 2022 19:06 (one week ago) link

There's a scientific theory that ant nests are ruled not by their queens, but rather by sizeable fungal growths at their base that release behaviour-altering spores. That fungus? Rupert Murdoch. The spores? Take your pick.

But since this is the internet and there's something called the Streisand Effect, here they are:
