I assumed from a quick skim that this thread was at least a passing reference to the film (heists, standoffs) and that it would do as a home for my minor observation. What's an 's' between friends?!

The Dog hews pretty close to the Lumet film in the details of the robbery--saw them on a double-bill tonight--and fills in lots of fascinating stuff before and after. I thought from the trailer I saw a few weeks ago that John Wojtowicz was going to be too much--in terms of playing to the camera--but he's not that way at all. One thing Lumet avoided--and turned into a joke--was that Sal, Cazale's character, and Robert Westenberg, the kid who backs out right away, were also gay. The documentary adds a really nice touch at the end, which you can probably guess if you know Dog Day Afternoon.
