"For the suffering neurotic who may think that Primal Therapy
is too overwhelming or too difficult to go through,
I would only say that the Herculean task is to be what we’re not.
The easiest thing to be is yourself."
The Primal Scream (1970)

Did you know the "blood red sky" that imspired Munch's painting really was like that when he saw it, and it was because Krakatoa had exploded that week?

Anyway, on with the yelling.

Because I'm a complete fucking idiot, I forgot that I was due to go home yesterday and let my sister into the apartment after her christmas party, and I forgot that someone was supposed to delivering a chair at some point. Because God hates me, my broken phone stopped working at 3pm yesterday, and I didn't notice until 1AM, by which time my sister already hated me, and had woken up my other sister to drive an hour and let her in.

And while I'm writing this, my sister rang and asked how she was supposed to _leave_ the flat. I belong dead.

(REB, welcome to the wonderful wacky warped world of I Love Everything.)

These are the things I can do without right now:

Hearing 'Jingle Bell Rock' or 'White Christmas' in the supermarket (or anywhere else)
Public liability lawyers
Tony Abbott
25 deg C at midnight
Survivor
The Herald Sun generally
Andrew Bolt
Sydney shock-jocks
Control freaks
Conspiracy theorists
Whingers about 'political correctness' (In My Day, you were downright rude. Now you're Politically Incorrect.)
Those who try to shock but succeed only in boring
Rex Hunt
Tony Greig
Any addition to my body of knowledge about Paris Hilton (which currently consists solely of, 'We're not talking about a hotel in France here you know')
Spam (e-mail)
Spam (the stuff that comes in tins)

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 11:59 (twenty years ago) link

At lunch, there was this guy in front of me browsing the menu.

He says, oh, you go ahead, I'm not ready...

So I go ahead and order.

The cashier, being a dumbass, asks if we are together, even though this guy was there for a while before me and is now standing pretty far back.

Then the other guy in line is a bit too adamant about not being with me.

Ok, so he was flaming gay and I wasn't with him, true, BUT I COULD DO WITHOUT HIS ADAMANT DENIAL OF BEING MY LUNCHMATE! grrr

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:01 (twenty years ago) link

That just reminds of that Seinfeld where Jerry gets mad because the one gay guy assumes he isn't on a date with the other gay guy (yes, I'm one of those people who get reminded of something in Seinfeld or the Simpsons every time something happens).

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 01:40 (twenty years ago) link

REB, in defence of Larry the K:

'worst thread ever' is a bit of an ILX in-joke. Enter the phrdse in 'search: advanced' and see how many times it has been used recently and in what circs.

There are planty of threads plenty worse than this one in any case.

I went into Target and they were playing some horrible xmas carol over and over and I had to leave, it was hideous. How can anyone work there, you'd go postal, I swear.

Also, someone in the office has some kind of xmas reindeer toy that you turn on and it jiggles and plays "12 days of xmas" or something REALLY LOUD AND TINNY and I will kill. KILL MAIM AND SQUISH WITH BOOTS.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:29 (twenty years ago) link

Ew, my boss insists that we listen to nothing but Christmas music for the entire month of December, and he's put a padlock on the cd player so nobody can change any of the cds, of which there are about twelve now, of which at least three are horrible twangy country Christmas albums and the rest are either Christmas choirs or a handbell ensemble, so it's the same awful songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:32 (twenty years ago) link

unplug it

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:34 (twenty years ago) link

It's especially pointless and annoying because the bakery is in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, so none of the customers like the music, anyway.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:35 (twenty years ago) link

Oh my god, Luna, there are notes up all over that say things like, "If I come in at any time and find that the CD player is not set on shuffle and at a reasonable volume, be prepared to suffer the consequences." I wouldn't put it past him to fill the CD player with the Doobie Brothers or something.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:38 (twenty years ago) link

Haha. It actually started skipping the other day, and all my coworkers and I rejoiced and let it skip for like two hours and totally enjoyed it, until he came in and got pissed off and fixed it.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 02:39 (twenty years ago) link

Along with my hatred for public spitting is people who feel the need to clear their sinuses and then spit their snot onto the sidewalk. I swear to god I see/hear this act 5 times a day in New York and it makes me wish I carried a gun. Also the incredibly loud cross dressers across the street from me can go to hell.

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 04:23 (twenty years ago) link

*shudder* I hate spitters. It seems to be a young homie guy thing here, to show off and be tough by ejecting a stream of spit at one's feet. WTF? Its fuckin' filthy.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 04:27 (twenty years ago) link

Oh gross, that reminds me! One time, when I worked in a grocery store, this guy started freaking out because the lady in front of him was writing out a check and he didn't think he should have to wait, so he started screaming at her and I reprimanded him and he tried to SPIT at me! It flew past my head and hit the magazine rack, and I wanted to swear at him, but when I opened my mouth, all that came out was, "SIR! You are BEHAVING like and ANIMAL!" He was obviously drunk.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 04:32 (twenty years ago) link

...you mean someone in NYC DOESN'T own a gun LOL.
