Aw babe, I am so not calling you on it! It was just the way you put it, that's all. It was a gentle ribbing and totally not a belittling thing. I'm sorry.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 11 December 2003 14:20 (twenty years ago) link

whatever, Dee hun, you rock!! *mwah*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 11 December 2003 14:21 (twenty years ago) link

I am also starting to be annoyed with how much I've embiggened, but I'm not sure if I'm really interested in "doing something" about it or not.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 11 December 2003 15:50 (twenty years ago) link

Dee, good luck with whatever-it-is!

Pink, long time no see!

Starry, hope you checked your work email, as I've sent you an update.

CP, does it really disturb you? Cause it doesn't show.

A lazy Thursday for me, filled to the brim with chicken soup. Got a new colour phone, which rocks. Soon, it too will have IM.

Welcome to all the newer faces.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 11 December 2003 21:41 (twenty years ago) link

The USPS takes too damn long, even with Priority Mail.

(Kingfish), Thursday, 11 December 2003 21:47 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, Chris, you don't look at all embiggened. Though anyone wanting to eschew Christmas cookies and sweets for weight loss purposes can send them to me. I'd be happy to do the public service of consuming all those deliciously troublesome calories.

Dee was on IM for a bit yesterday and she had some hellish finals for school. Hopefully they went well.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:28 (twenty years ago) link

I choose my photos carefully. And I have a very thin frame, so no one believes that I have a decent sized gut (and that my face has gotten a little too "filled out" lately) because i still have boney arms and whatnot. But I dunno, I generally don't care about this sort of thing. Much.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:35 (twenty years ago) link

I have working heating at home now! Things are gradually coming together! I hope my mood will start improving from here on!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 11 December 2003 22:42 (twenty years ago) link

Woot! Heating is great, it keeps people warm!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 11 December 2003 23:13 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, that is why I hope my mood will start improving now - I was without it for nine days.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 11 December 2003 23:16 (twenty years ago) link

my day so far has been lots of retail therapy: backseamed stockings; red opaque (like tights) stockings; silver glittery stockings; plaid knee-length skirt; black "emily" skirt that has a red-stitched kitty face for a back pocket; black stilettos with an ankle strap. (the last three items were bought at Buffalo Exchange so you don't think I've gone too fancy.)

now to get laundry and dye hair.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 12 December 2003 01:07 (twenty years ago) link

Heating people is wrong!

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I was here until 8pm last night, when I got kicked out by the cleaner cause he was setting the alarm. Gah, I feel rough. I think I'm hallucinating. And HSA expects me to go to some free wank experimentalist music thing tonight at Conway Hall? Help!

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 12 December 2003 09:04 (twenty years ago) link

Morning all! I have started the day off with seeing pics of my friends baby (that's still in her belly!). What a great start.
Hey Nichole, how goes it hun? Tell me all!
Sam, i like the sound of that retail therapy definitely, sounds like you got soem great stuff.
Kate, awwwww hugs!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 December 2003 09:23 (twenty years ago) link

I also went a bit mental working late last night and started having a fight with my chair, which has decided to stop being adjustable. I became convinced that it had deliberately jammed at exactly the optimum height to fuck up my back, shoulders, neck and eyesight - it is eeeeviiiill. Hm, maybe I will go and swop it with a student workstation one...

Today is the last day of term and I have to say goodbye to some of our students which will be sad. I also have a presentation to prepare for my MA assessment next week which is scaring me because I've never done that in an academic context before. Is it done to read verbatim from notes or should it be more improv? What do I do if the data projector breaks down?

Archel (Archel), Friday, 12 December 2003 09:53 (twenty years ago) link

Good morning! I should get to bed! Arrrgh 4 AM...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Friday, 12 December 2003 09:56 (twenty years ago) link

Julia - get to bed young lady!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:01 (twenty years ago) link

Hi Archel. Presenting stuff is best done if you transcribe the main points in yr notes onto cue cards so you only need to glance at them now and again. Being able to look at your audience as you present = important. Rehearse like mad beforehand obv.

Good luck!

robster (robster), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:16 (twenty years ago) link

If the projector breaks down, fill in with some quick-fire stand-up comedy until fixed/replaced.

robster (robster), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:18 (twenty years ago) link

I got into work this morning to find signs all over the office saying "Bye Rob!", "Rob has left the building!", "Cheerio Rob!" etc. I was freaked out until I saw that the accompanying photo clearly wasn't me. However, I now have to come to terms with the existence of a second Rob - although not for very long.

robster (robster), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:30 (twenty years ago) link

Haha that could be a hilarious way of firing someone though.

(Thanks for the tips!)

Archel (Archel), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:44 (twenty years ago) link

No prob. Projectors never break down for academic presentations anyway - this only happens at work :(

robster (robster), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:49 (twenty years ago) link

It's FRIDAY!!! YAY!

I'm about to take a nice hot bath, put on my casual day clothes, and gradually make my way to work.

I'm glad you got some retail therapy in, Sam. It really does wonders for me, even though I end up putting it all on credit cards.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 12:34 (twenty years ago) link

Sam's birthday cheer, which I've just read about on her thread, is very infectious. I am now happy and excited and wish I was doing naughties rather than emptying the script cupboard.

If anyone wants to totally make my afternoon and email me, my address (for today at least) is mark at casar0tt0 dot uk dot com (the numbers in the name should be replaced by letters). I promise I'll write back to anyone who drops me a note - it is SO dull being away from the internet!! (I'm on someone else's PC during lunch write now, btw)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:45 (twenty years ago) link

Hooray b/day frolicks for James & in turn me tomorrow - yay!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:49 (twenty years ago) link

yesterday i got some email from Luna, it made me happy. More email people. Well those who know my real email address....

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:52 (twenty years ago) link

Chris, I'll email you if you email me :)

(I'm serious about getting emails, btw - it will make me so happy)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:53 (twenty years ago) link

Everyone loves emails - get emailing ppl!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:57 (twenty years ago) link

well you can email me at the poops address but I check it about once a month.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:58 (twenty years ago) link

Yesterday I bought these shoes from Marshalls. They cost me $30. On the Simple website they are $88.

Good score Chris!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 December 2003 14:42 (twenty years ago) link

I am sitting here having spent the last 2 hours eating free food, drinking free wine and coffee, gossiping, and listening to Otis Redding. Now I'm eating a mince pie and contemplating the orgasmically good truffles my coworkers just gave me.

Maybe I don't hate my job so much after all.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:05 (twenty years ago) link

I FINISHED MY REPORTS!!! WOOOOO!!! ALL FOUR OF THEM!!!

Well, technically it was two reports for four months, so that makes eight of them.

But still. I did two weeks of work in two and a half days!

And my boss was so pleased!!! She was really impressed, and all "wow, thanks for doing this, I really appreciate how hard you've worked" and it's so stunning when management actually SAY and MEANS this, I'm quite flabbergasted. It's always nice when that happens.

So I'm going to celebrate by doing nothing for the rest of the day. Heh.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:27 (twenty years ago) link

Is it wrong to be obsessively critical of the work of the person who's doing the work I said I didn't want to do anymore?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:19 (twenty years ago) link

Of course not, Huck! Judge away! :-)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:19 (twenty years ago) link

Hooray! Becuase this new person they've got to replace me, is nowhere as good as I am/was.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:20 (twenty years ago) link

I mean, isn't there a certain satisfaction in knowing that idiot, I mean, your other colleagues, can't do your work as well as you?

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:20 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, your supervisor is going to wish you weren't going.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:21 (twenty years ago) link

When I was training my replacement at my last job, she said (about 5 minutes into it) that she needed a smoke break. I thought I would die of happiness. It was a receptionist position and I had to beg a million people to be allowed to leave the desk to even go to the bathroom. Also, I didn't like said people.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:22 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, your supervisor is going to wish you weren't going.

Million to one odds, she's easier to get along with than I am though. Which I think sometimes counts for more than actual quality of work for people who have to deal with me daily.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:29 (twenty years ago) link

It's funny, because with everyone we interview, I'm thinking, "Hmmm... Are they going to put up with his shit?" I hope he hires someone that keeps in his place, because I don't feel like I did a very good job of that.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:30 (twenty years ago) link

It sounds like he should be looking for a nanny!

I think I have a megalomaniacal side.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:42 (twenty years ago) link

I think I have two.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:47 (twenty years ago) link

you always have to one-up me!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:47 (twenty years ago) link

That's what I'm talking about!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:48 (twenty years ago) link

I'm off now kiddywinks, y'all have yourselves a great w/e now y'hear?!! Adios!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:50 (twenty years ago) link

it's like the job is a girlfriend that I don't get along with anymore, but I don't want to have to WATCH someone else have their way with either.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 16:52 (twenty years ago) link

ps, ttfn, pp
