Chocolate does a great job of coating the inside of your mouth and killing any other stink that was going on. This is a proven method used by shiftworkers with access to a candy machine who do not wish to be questioned on their alcohol habits.

my grandmother was a great fan of cloves for bad breath. i think most would prefer the worst case of halitosis than smelling of cloves. but it's up to you...

Peanut butter covers garlic better than anything else.

I suddenly have the urge to go make a film about a gang of peanut butter-addicted vampires.

six years pass...

i recently told my friend he bad breath

i just sat him and down and said "friend, you have bad breath. this is a warning sign that you need to go to the dentist, and could very well be why you're not getting laid."

I am forever telling people that their hygiene is poor, and further pointing out that this makes them sexually undesirable in a general way. Oh, how they thank me.

i mean, they'd rather know, right?

Just the other day I said to a freind of mine, "You have a sparkling personality, love" -- it's best to lead with a compliment, I find -- "but you could stand to lose twenty or thirty pounds. I mean, be honest with yourself? Would you want to wake up next to you?" Then I talked at length about how she drinks too much.

So, how close do you have to be to a person to have this talk? Any tips? My friend has a long-term girlfriend, surely he knows about it and is trying to deal with it and doesn't need me reminding him that it's a problem.

kenan, no one appreciates your brutal honesty that you mention upthread. Most overweight people are pretty aware of that fact already. Bad breath, however, most people are not aware they have so I can see that might be actually helpful to know.

I live forever in fear that I have bad breath.

Chlorophyll supplements apparently help.

ha!

I came here to ask how best to navigate this.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Sunday, 3 February 2019 18:36 (five years ago) link

any, like, actual advice about how to do it?

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Sunday, 3 February 2019 18:36 (five years ago) link

sometimes a sinus infection will cause bad breath. if that seems possible, try decongestants, especially before sleeping. look to see if your tongue seems coated. if so, scrape it or brush it as best you can. plus the obvious tooth brushing and mouth rinsing stuff.

that's all I got.

Sorry, i meant how best to tell a friend about theirs.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Sunday, 3 February 2019 18:52 (five years ago) link

surely depends entirely on yr relationship. mb you cld do the classic managers trick of talking about somebody else's bad breath and get it all out that way

ogmor, Sunday, 3 February 2019 18:55 (five years ago) link

if you do it directly + impolitely: btw your fucking breath smells like a cow-pat - they will probably think you are a twat. If you approach them with more subtlety and politeness they might still think you are a twat because most people don't like getting managed/handled, and sometimes even more so when it is done "nicely". I don't know of a way that they won't end up harbouring recent mints resentments against you.
