Magnus taking forever here

o. nate, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:45 (one year ago) link

making him sweat

The Fox in the Fedora (Neil S), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:45 (one year ago) link

yeah but it's still exciting bc he's let 5 or so minutes burn off his clock when there seems to be two obviously winning moves - Rxd4 and Bxe6

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:46 (one year ago) link

maybe he's trying to figure out if Rxd4 line will mate?

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:46 (one year ago) link

there we go some action

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:47 (one year ago) link

magnus up 1 pawn after that damn

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:47 (one year ago) link

In its favor, I must say that rapid chess is more fun to watch for a punter like me.

o. nate, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:48 (one year ago) link

xp Caruana has unconnected pawns too, Carlsen should be able to pick him off

The Fox in the Fedora (Neil S), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:49 (one year ago) link

this looks like a draw to me but idk obv what these guys are thinking

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:49 (one year ago) link

rook endgames are usually draws at this level iirc

hot dog go to bathroom (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:49 (one year ago) link

feel like magnus probably should've been able to win idk and now his time is becoming an issue i'd think

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:50 (one year ago) link

Weirdly, this is happening across the street from my flat and you’d never know unless you were looking carefully for the venue.

suzy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 15:56 (one year ago) link

this twitch stream is entertaining because you get the feeling that the GM thinks the IM is talking a little too much and saying a lot of dumb stuff lol

k3vin k., Wednesday, 28 November 2018 16:08 (one year ago) link

ended with a blunder

imago, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 16:08 (one year ago) link

caruana resigns game 1

k3vin k., Wednesday, 28 November 2018 16:09 (one year ago) link

who are the GM and IM k3vin?

hot dog go to bathroom (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 16:11 (one year ago) link

IM daniel rensch, GM robert hess

k3vin k., Wednesday, 28 November 2018 16:14 (one year ago) link

is it possible to filter out all the idiots and only get their commentary?

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 16:18 (one year ago) link

RIP caruana

k3vin k., Wednesday, 28 November 2018 17:03 (one year ago) link

Brutal!

hot dog go to bathroom (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 17:06 (one year ago) link

Ludo, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 17:54 (one year ago) link

Magnus is the champion!

That last game was pretty fun.

hot dog go to bathroom (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 18:24 (one year ago) link

RIP wee fuck

single bed mentality (||||||||), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 18:27 (one year ago) link

Carlsen is so much better at playing fast that it makes sense they were suggesting he was trying to get it to the tiebreaks
Their current rating:

Carlsen
Classic - 2835
Rapid - 2902
Blitz - 2939

Caruana
Classic - 2832
Rapid - 2766
Blitz - 2767

hot dog go to bathroom (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 28 November 2018 20:47 (one year ago) link

while that is pretty I'm intrigued to see your opponent's excellent/good/inaccuracy/mistake/blunder ratio, and what happened to his g pawn

imago, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 20:52 (one year ago) link

actually, you have all 16 pieces so his g pawn must have fallen on the g file, with queen intruding after too-hasty development of knight (rip, presumably with the mate) and bishop

ergo noob city

is this how u do cheesbrahs

imago, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 20:55 (one year ago) link

Yes you're right. Good detective work! He lost a pawn and a piece on the g file and a couple of pawns in the middle.

I'm calling this the cajunsunday immortal.

one month passes...

Mordy, Monday, 28 January 2019 16:43 (one year ago) link

two weeks pass...

I’d like to blame it on my penchant for playing while drinking, but my rating seems to just get worse and worse, now flirting with mid 900s, falling from around 1100 when I started playing daily maybe a year and a half ago. But the game is so real.

calstars, Sunday, 17 February 2019 23:20 (one year ago) link

I don’t have any inclination to stop playing though. Maybe I’ll get down to true beginner level soon and can rebuild my foundation from scratch

calstars, Sunday, 17 February 2019 23:35 (one year ago) link

two weeks pass...

down to 930! I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but hey

calstars, Friday, 8 March 2019 16:20 (one year ago) link

too much focusing on attack at expense of defense?

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 8 March 2019 18:29 (one year ago) link

i'm somehow getting worse the more i play. maybe i'm more aware of how bad i am

global tetrahedron, Friday, 8 March 2019 22:06 (one year ago) link

1 step back 2 steps forward is for sure a thing in chess i find when i'm a losing streak it helps to start being more attentive, think more about whether i'm hanging any pieces, think more about possible checks and captures, and just slow down in general. nb i have lots of clock problems when i play ymmv.

Mordy, Friday, 8 March 2019 22:07 (one year ago) link

In the openings - develop your minor pieces, don't do too many pawn moves, don't bring out your queen too early, castle early.

hot dog go to bathroom (cajunsunday), Saturday, 9 March 2019 13:22 (one year ago) link

streaks are a thing in chess, for sure.
I also I tend to lose the first game of the day. It's almost a law.

Ludo, Saturday, 9 March 2019 13:27 (one year ago) link

Yes, I am aggressive. That’s how you win, right?

calstars, Saturday, 9 March 2019 22:48 (one year ago) link

one month passes...

Attack can be the best form of defence, but from a solid base as per cajunsunday's post

lefal junglist platton (wtev), Saturday, 13 April 2019 08:10 (eleven months ago) link

These days I’m just trying to have a bit more fun with it. Like jumping into a multiple move exchange just to see what interesting positions can emerge

calstars, Saturday, 13 April 2019 11:50 (eleven months ago) link

Which is also good in that you get more space on the board to play with hopefully

lefal junglist platton (wtev), Sunday, 14 April 2019 07:37 (eleven months ago) link

starcraft > chess

lumen (esby), Sunday, 14 April 2019 08:45 (eleven months ago) link

Starcraft vaguely like real time chess

calstars, Sunday, 14 April 2019 12:35 (eleven months ago) link

starcraft is great but not better than chess

Mordy, Sunday, 14 April 2019 15:03 (eleven months ago) link

been playing backgammon lately, a lot, for some reason. Maybe i no longer believe in brains just in FAITH

:P
