Why doesnt British Gas wanna rock?

its very difficult to give them money!

i tried ringing them to pay, and you go through this crappy automated service with far too many options, then you have to key in your account number, which it didnt recognise. if you go to the "other queries" bit to say "you're not recognising my details, i would like to give you some money" it forwards to another line. which promptly goes dead.

if london electric can manage to have a system where you ring them up and give them some money, why cant british gas?

and O2 is bad too. i want to change my address so they dont forward bills to somewhere i dont live. this is proving quite a tough one for them

DO it the other way round, via electronic banking. The details will all be on the payment slip for the reference number you need to use.

im kinda worried that if it doesnt recognise the ref number over the phone that it wont via internet banking either

Everything still out of commission? (It's 45 degrees here now, beautiful day, yay.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 3 February 2003 20:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

oh, it's all melted now, so the country should be back to normal by April :)

Hey
I would really like to talk with you
British Gas
Do you have the time to stop
Say
All I wanna do is rock
If this was any other day
I'd turn and walk the other way
today
I'll stay
Not walk away
Hey
I'm a foot without a sock
Without you
Love
You seem to work around the clock
Say
All I wanna do is rock
If this was any other day
I'd turn and walk the other way
But today
I'll stay
Not walk
Just rock
Hey!
Love!
Say
All I wanna do is rock
If this was any other day
I'd turn and walk the other way
But today
I'll stay
Okay

(I must apologise for my London-centric comments re: the snow situation)

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 19:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh well. Don't you have internet banking. (I've never got mine sorted out but it does seem to be the easiest way).

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

I must say Amazon UK is on top of things. I can get stuff quicker from London than I can from the US.

five years pass...

British Gas rang me yesterday about an outstanding bill, and the guy tried to force me into paying over the phone by giving them my debit card details. He kept saying how urgently it needed to be paid, no way was I just giving out my card details like that. When I asked him to put me through to the Billing dept I got an automatic message telling me that they were closed for Bank Holiday.

haha
so i hung up and paid it online.

He was probably totally legit tbh, but you've got to be careful sometimes.

Why is Johnny from Big Brother pretending to be a gas man in their adverts?

Fuck these guys. Been trying to get an autotopup device since September, they lost our order 3 times, finally received the machine today by some miracle, actually happy with Royal Mail for once - they addressed it to Ground Floor Flat, London, <my postcode> and somehow they got it here, maybe off the electoral roll or something. Now not only do the drivers fail to download, but the customer ID on the letter is apparently not a valid customer ID.

Got a quote for a new boiler from them, they told me I couldn't get a condensing one as the outflow would rot the cast iron outflow pipe. They didn't tell me that a) this is mostly bullshit, and ii) you have to get a certificate of exemption from the council to get a non-condensing boiler, and they are almost never granted.

Just got hijacked by unexpected emotion speaking to customer service person at the energy company I was with about the final bill following their supplier, Nottingham City Council's Robin Hood Energy's sale to BG. Despite being thwarted repeatedly by dumb / craven government decisions they've been good to their customers.

"hijacked by unexpected emotion"

Great to see this vintage ILX phrase, though I think the original (from Mark S?) was "ambushed".
