Five years ago Baker wrote all the things that Maconie now does.

Danny Baker on the TV (particularly when he's scripting lame gags for Angus 'autocue' Deayton) = ultra-dud.

His smug appearances on TFI Friday were none more dud though.

But his radio shows had me in stitches, particularly when accompanied by Mr Kelly, who I am sure is odious at other times but they did seem to work well together.

Great on 606 though as mentioned esp with DKelly. Even greater on Radio 1 Saturday/Sunday morning show scaring all those who had previously tuned in to DLT in same slot. Played what ever records took his fancy which meant interesting sounds and future battles with playlist mafia. Great phone calls, building bodies from peoples names, small children riding in to piles of tincans on trikes and people blowing things up.

He went to Virgin after Radio 1 but then was sacked from there and no longer on national radio. We need him back in the same way we need Mark and Lard back doing an intelligent evening show.

but i'm sure he's good on BBC London so remarkably the classics just about have it. i'm generally impressed/envious of his career/fingers in pies ala Keith Allen.

In fact he was totally non-rockist at the NME, he was a soulboy and was into pop music, Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire etc

Oh, when he was on the NME, his first (I think) singles review column was all raving about disco 12" singles. Most of which had terrible titles like "I'll never forget my favourite disco" but as I've never heared the tracks, I'll refrain.
