Really, what else am I going to say?

TRANSFORMERS!!!!!...There's more of them, the toys were better, the cartoons was better, the comics were better. It's the convention today, but I'm not going.

jel, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah! Ah! TRANSFORMERS! What a silly debate - like anyone's going to side with Thundercats.

DG, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think I'm leaning towards Thundercats. I have little or no memories of Transformers in my childhood.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thunder thunder thunder THUNDER CATSSSSS!!

DavidM, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You bastards are just saying that to spite me aren't you?

DG, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think I've ever seen Transformers. I enjoyed Thundercats. I've got the sword somewhere. My friend likes MASK.

Greg, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Both Transformers and Thundercats are undergoing sort of a renaissance with the rave crew and are, in an ironic-nostalgia way, totally DUD. Ignoring that and focusing on the show, toys, etc, Transformers wins. Super-interactive toys with an unbelievably entertaining half-hour commercial every weekend--yes. Thundercats, on the other hand, was a boring and cheesy show and the toys were nothing special, except for that sword.

adam, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thundercats wins due to deployment of mum-ra at various key points, also because it has this massive guitar squall near the end of the theme tune which is the best thing ever. Oh, and Snarff, the RED cat, for just saying 'snarff' all the time. But why do people take this stuff so seriously nowadays?

Bill, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cheetarah had a way better body than any of the Transformer robots.

Ally, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Transformers were more than meets the eye... Thundercats were hoes. Edge: Transformers.

JM, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But Transformers are approaching their 20th anniversary...Thundercats lasted like 6 months...sheesh!

jel, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have never watched either show but as a tangential connection to Transformers made me one of the most interesting friends I have ever had, Transformers wins.

Lyra, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Let the record show that Cheetara was NAKED in the 1st Thundercats episode. But-ass NAKED.

Still, the Transformers were cool. That is, the Decepticons were cool. Bumblebee and Spike can go drive off a cliff.

Once again, I direct all ye cartoon fetishists to X-Entertainment for thoughtful analyses of this important American subculture.

Any appropriation of pop culture icons by rave culture = DUD. I saw a rave poster featuring the Powerpuff Girls. Thumbs down - I mean DOWN.

David Raposa, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Another minus for our friends from Cybertron: the abysmally horrible and awful ska band the Decepticonz.

adam, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Unicron = Last Performance of Orson Welles.

I can't really decide if this is Classic or Dud

jess, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(I bet I know what Orson tht...)

mark s, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeah. pass the fishsticks and cheap wine. ;)

jess, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I guess we'll have to give a thumbs down to the entire genre of anime too *sigh*....not to mention the Shaolin Monks and pretty much anything else vaguely Japanese/pop. Goddamn ravers--is nothing sacred??

turner, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Appropriation of pop icons by the rave culture=dud. Appropriation of pop icons by hip hop culture=classic?

turner, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

thats right turner! but how many times am I going to hear a hiphop posse cut claim that they "form like voltron". and wutang clan really did wonders for the career of John Woo. but back to the Transformers, if anyone has some mp3 sharing thing, boston hiphop act 7L & Esoteric did a song "Be Alert" which samples the transforming sound. its nice. and in a battle royale, there's no way the thundercats could take out the transformers. robots in disguise.

Phil-Two, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Transformers all the way!

Thundercats would be better matched against Silverhawks.

They've all changed. Powerglide was a small Autobot in the eighties.

i just got the volume one of The IDW collection. Looks fooking sweet, but the first 20 pages I just cannot tell what is going on. Luckily after that the artwork improves.

God, how many conversations do I have to have to have with my son that follow this script:

Me: "Oh, ______"
Boy: "What? You know about _______?"
Me: "Yes, I used to watch ________ when I was a boy, but it was different."

kkvgz, Thursday, 14 July 2011 19:45 (fourteen years ago)

i got classic bumblebee and starscream this week, they're superb.

But i picked this guy up too, anyone know his name? I like the robot form, unfortunately when I got him home and transformed him he turned into a rather lame aircraft of no particular description

Summer Slam! (Ste), Sunday, 24 July 2011 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

ah right it's 'animated' version of Jetfire. And it can connect with another similar transformer to make a bigger robot. hmm.
