add it to fish before cooking or homemade salsa, guacamole, & oil based salad dresings for extra-zing.

Lime has been the target of oppression in candies past... Otter pops ostracizing Sir Isaac Lime, for example. And further back, the mysterious dropping of the lime flavored Starburst from the original line-up.

lime cordial - memories of summer at my nannas and grandads farm drinking sweetened cordial from pretty glasses at the outside table.............

lime juice squeezed over cooking chicken is nice as a lemon alternative, and a slice of fresh lime in a glass of water with some ice cubes jingling about is very refreshing on a hot day, ( actually make that gin or vodka with a dash of tonic )
lime is yummy squeezed into curry sauces too, and the rind grated into many fish sauces makes great flavouring.

Add lime juice and fresh coriander to salads. Yum.

When I was in pre-school the teacher held up a lime and asked us what it was and I clearly knew what it was since my fav. color was green, but when she called on me i accidentally said "lemon"! and thus the self-loathing began.

I keep thick slices of lime in the freezer, ready to add to a glass of gin and tonic.

Also, lime pickle is one of my favourite Indian condiments. Lovely with poppadums. Want curry now.

As certain board habitues can attest, in the summer I love a Mount Gay gimlet: Mount Gay Eclipse rum, sweetened lime juice, splash of soda (optional). Bright, refreshing, simple, luxurious, and antiscorbutic.

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 22 April 2004 13:20 (twenty years ago) link

a delicious variation on a gimlet: vodka, fresh lime juice, loads of crushed mint, and a splash of simple syrup, shaken with ice and served up.

ohhhhh that sounds marvelous. Do you think it would work with gin?

Lime ice cream is great when you can find it.

I used the recipe above and when I poured boiling water over the limes it smelled like ROSES! it was cool.

three weeks pass...
it didn't end up tasting too good though, it was too bitter from stewing.

So I bought a lot of mexican beer.

Also that ke-ke key lime liqueur above is too sweet for me but it's okay if you squeeze half a lime into the glass.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 25 June 2004 14:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Make lime pickle from excess rinds, as long as they have a bit of flesh left on. Ooooooh lime pickle, *slaver*.

seven years pass...

I have six pounds of limes. The plan is to make candied lime peel.

Problem: I'm going to be out of town Friday through Sunday, and my candied-peel recipe takes three days, so I can't start it until Monday. How to keep the peel freshest until then? a) Juice the limes and keep the peels in the fridge in an airtight bag until Monday? b) Keep the limes whole in bags until Monday? c) Or leave them at room temp until Monday? I think if it's A or B, they need to be kept in fairly airtight bags since the fridge is a dry environment and I don't want the peels to dry out.

What's your opinion?

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Thursday, 7 July 2011 00:38 (twelve years ago) link

If lime seems bland compared to the tanginess of a lemon. & you found a steady source of limes that belied that observation, could you advertise that source with the phrase 'no lime tangier'?

Or is it a Jesus quote meaning either don't touch me or don't hold on to me.

Or is it a policy thing for a town in Morocco when Moroccan limes are diseased.
So if you're in the citrus smuggling business you need to watch out for No Lime Tangier?

Just wondering like.
