It would be interesting to read something properly researched about how China’s attempts to limit online activity (specifically gaming) to an hour a day at weekends has worked in practice.

Why would it be unworkable? The age-verification tech exists. It's not perfect but it works okay. Kids can get around it with VPNs obviously, but free VPNs usually max out their data allowances pretty quick and short-form video is a huge data hog.

The consequences have probably not been very well thought through eg this will disincentivise socmedia sites from creating any kind of responsible guardrails around content, because they can just say hey, kids aren't allowed on this platform anyway.

Possibly not technically ‘unworkable’, yes, but very unclear at this stage what the intention is (time-outs after x number of minutes, hard stop at 10pm, etc), which leads me to suspect that they haven’t really thought through what kind of measures can reasonably be applied to people who are essentially adults in other contexts.
