tfw you're looking for some value in the margin betting on number of players to collapse and die of heat exhaustion during the 1 pm KO's

Really feels like Brazil's time again even if they're maybe overrated. As ever tho particularly interested to see how Mexico and Spain fuck it up.

Mexico could presumably continue to flog a grossly unfit Jimenez for starters

OTM. It's inevitable.

the laughs keep coming tho

🚨 Beer is out at the World Cup.

After all that (alcoholic) beer will now not be sold inside the perimeter at all eight of Qatar’s World Cup stadiums.

Big about-face means FIFA now faces contractual nightmare with Budweiser.

damn how will fans cope without garbage beer at $9 a cup

Brazil and Argentina seem most likely to meet before the final but either way it's high time they met again in a WC.

nashwan, Friday, 18 November 2022 11:39 (one week ago) link

I'd rather not see Neymar anywhere near a World Cup final.

i concur about the beer but it's going to outrage the kind of people who will get outraged by this and not mass slave labour deaths

Burnt Norton 360 (Noodle Vague), Friday, 18 November 2022 11:41 (one week ago) link

I was watching a thing about this on Prime Time (RTÉ) last night. I’ll post a video if it gets uploaded. Anyway they interviewed several migrants who lived there - an Uzbek fella and a Kenyan, both got a good bit of time to talk. The item also mentioned the almost seven thousand people who died building the stadiums and the labour camps. Between the fact that beer cost €20 and the mid morning temperature reaching 35C it seemed bad for the poppy lovers. They should never have had this there. No sympathy for anyone going.

The Football Supporters Association have released a statement following the decision to prevent beer sales at World Cup stadiums.

Those in corporate areas of stadiums at the tournament will still be able to purchase alcohol.

Sad that Mane is out. I can see Qatar getting out of the group (to face England..). And if not Senegal, hard to see any African team progressing without a major upset.

No real big games in the first week but a few intriguing ones based on novelty (e.g. will Canada just collapse against Belgium or be hard to break down?). Mexico v Poland could be fun if Bobby L turns up.
