personally I've grown a fairly robust one due to laziness, depression, and lack of shaving, and my god I can't stand the fucking feeling of them. they itch and it's probably psychosomatic but I feel 5 degrees hotter.

yet i have one right now. and i probably will tomorrow cos lol i'm very lazy and don't wanna clog the sink and have to get Drano.

what say you

they really do look great on some people. a beard is much more forgiving (I wear a beard)

Laziness, indeed! I tut-tut thee, sir.

Laziness cannot account for the presence of a mustache, since the possessor of a mustache continues to shave their neck and the remainder of their face, not to mention regular mustache trimming to achieve and preserve its desired shape, so any reduction in time and effort spent in whisker-related grooming activity is negligible.

I suspect you harbor a hidden affection for your mustache, despite your efforts at concealment. You may even think it looks dashing. Or perhaps it provides a focal point drawing the eye away from features you love even less. Your puny excuses about clogs and Drano fool me not!

I should note ftr that to rock a great mustache it doesn’t have to be matinee Selleck/Reynolds style either

I guess you all are thinking of mustaches as by definition without beards. the mustache/beard combination is a much better look on most guys. Mustaches alone can be really hot, but not on very many people, you have to be young to pull it off I think

Personally, I would define any beard incorporating a mustache as having subsumed the mustache into itself, so that the unit taken as a whole should be defined as "a beard".

way better than beards, sorry manimals

I dislike long mustaches as much as long beards. keep it trimmed!

and with beards - please shave your neck

Voted pencil shavings but that isn't totally accurate. On me they just look like garbage. I had hoped to achieve a Mike Patton look, but ended up more like a police cadet.

As I cannot grow a full beard, I go back and forth between the mustache-and-goatee and sometimes the mustache-that-extends-all-the-way-to-one's-chin (the "James Hetfield"). When I am completely bare-faced, I feel very uncomfortable.

My dad had what I always think of as a cop mustache - basically Tom Selleck/Burt Reynolds length.

I’m on mustache #4 of the last couple years and just trimmed it because it was getting a big long

mh, Friday, 10 September 2021 01:46 (two years ago) link

*bit long

It's really kinda weird... you're no longer a guy walking down the street, but a guy with a mustache. People look at you different. They talk to you different.

I shaved mine off last December after two years. I look into the mirror now and recognize the fella. I guess "me" by default is clean shaven.

But "me with a mustache" was a fun guy too.

Beard & mustache >>> mustache only >>>>>>>>>> clean shaven >>>>>>>>> the 'Captain Ahab'

As a lifelong ugly guy, I'd never been randomly complimented on anything about my appearance until I grew a beard. Now I'd say I get at least one or two complete strangers a month specifically coming up to me to compliment my beard. It was weird and unsettling at first, but now it's nice to get a random compliment now and then.

early 20s, I did the mustache only, and it was gross. I hate looking at the pics. looks like a Dirty Sanchez.

mid 20s, did the Van Dyke look, mustache connected to goatee. it worked for me for a while, when my face looked more youthful.

briefly in 2010 I had to wear a mustache only again as I was playing Rooster in a bizarre theatrical mashup of Annie and Sweeney Todd. I looked more like a 70s cop than a gangster but w/e.

somewhere in the early 2010s , outside of that, I started wearing a beard with no mustache and I like that a lot better.

right now I look like Ted Kaczynski

I like mustaches on young guys, they only can pull it off

currently rocking the full Selleck, and feel that this is viable for a middle-aged man - in some ways i feel my most completely middle-aged self when mo’d up

I have on occasion grown a beard, and have tried shaving it all off apart from the moustache, it does not suit me at all, and after a minute or two I invariably get rid of it too.
