Was Ned *this* close to getting a live personal voice message from Andrew WK tonight?

Yes, he was. VERY close. But I was a nice guy, and decided to let the thought pass (as the man himself was *still* talking with fans and signing stuff even after the Sonic Boom show that followed his show in Seattle this past night)

DB do you still fancy writing an Andrew WK live piece for FT?

It shouldn't have happened, anyway, Brian, I was asleep by 9:30 and probably would have been very cranky no matter who called!

Hilarious thought, though. So when is someone going to photoshop me onto his album cover and call it I Get Ned or something?

Oh.. my... god.

(Tom, for various reasons, I won't be able to do an AWK article at this point. Many apologies)

Most specifically because that photo above has so overwhelmed him that he cannot help but contemplate it for hours on end now.

I can, but I would.

it is my sincere belief that andrew w.k. is one of the most important creative talents the US has produced in a long time, in as much as his worldview and output are singular and startlingly powerful in their vision and execution.

AWK strikes me as a benign L. Ron Hubbard or Chuck Paluhuhunhuiuk or a Tony Robbins minus horse, and I'm in favor of benign-ness. We need more benign people in the world, and anyone should be pleased to get a phone call from such a dude.

But in terms of creative art, Tony Robbins is a far more grotesque and compelling figure, not least because he is a freakish sinister teeth monster.

He pretty good in Hudsucker Proxy and Jacobs Ladder, but I hardly think Robbins that great a force in creative art.

love the other guests cackling away while the host finishes the question with a straight face

Red Eye is a good concept for a show (the network anchors kick back and goof around for half-an-hour, the show doesn't air till late) but the host is so intolerable it kills it.
