It's funny, I just remembered that I interviewed him years ago, when the "Dawn" director's cut came out. Here's some of the stuff he said:

They know, the marketing people know, before the movie’s made, that there’ll be two cuts. They have a giant master plan that they don’t tell you about, and you’re a pawn in their game. Which, by the way, I’m happy to be, because they know what they’re doing. But they sort of treat you in some ways like, ‘it’s cute that you made a movie, now let us show you what the point of it is.’ Halfway down the line, they were like, “Ok, when you do the director’s cut …” And I was like, whoa, back up. What do you mean when we do the director’s cut?” And they said, oh, you know, we’re going to release a separate director’s cut at the same time, because the marketing people know that someone who buys the theatrical version will by the same movie again an additional version. It’s a crazy thing.

That was the heyday of unrated DVD director's cuts where they could show boobs.

Zombie boobs.

Dawn of the Dead should get 100% of the vote

Joe Bombin (milo z), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 00:16 (three years ago) link

i haven't seen it, but it'd be funny if it won

Red Nerussi (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 00:17 (three years ago) link

it's rare that a movie actually makes me regret watching it but Sucker Punch

lukas, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 00:26 (three years ago) link

I mean yeah I would've voted for Dawn of the Dead but Watchmen was good

flappy bird, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 01:04 (three years ago) link

watchmen was better than i thought any watchmen movie could be, but his artistic limitations in that film are incredibly obvious now.

wasdnuos (abanana), Wednesday, 3 March 2021 01:49 (three years ago) link

yeah I mean I read the comic the month before the movie came out, then I saw the movie, thought it was alright, and have never since revisited the Watchmen universe. I honestly don't even know what movie the "Snyder cut" is supposed to be of.

flappy bird, Wednesday, 3 March 2021 01:52 (three years ago) link

When it was released I noticed how the Watchmen movie emphasized the violence without being critical of it, and I thought, maybe the studio forced them to LOTR it up. But it's now obvious that it was Snyder being Snyder.

Ready to get MOONED?

https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/06/zack-snyder-exclusive-first-look-rebel-moon

Deborah Snyder hopes the project will provide a pathway to new fans who love all the things that inspired it but are yearning for something fresh. “It has a bit of Star Wars. It has a bit of everything,” she says. “It’s a little bit like Lord of the Rings, a little bit Game of Thrones with the palace intrigue. And it’s really just a lot of what’s in Zack’s head.”

would vote sucker punch now

What I'm really yearning for is something fresh that's been cobbled together from bits of all of the most well-worn genre IP.

Rebel Moon Lineup: Nemesis (Doona Bae), Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher), Tarak (Staz Nair), Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), Kora (Sofia Boutella), Kai (Charlie Hunnam) and Milius (E. Duffy), and General Titus (Djimon Hounsou.)

these character names have huge ‘second-string image comic book from 1994 that lasted for three issues’ energy

Arguably that's pretty good casting - everyone I recognise is "generally improves (sometimes bad) films but not yet a star"

Lol and the rest of the cast includes Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Fra Fee - tick, tick, tick!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 19:23 (eight months ago) link

Per copy elsewhere:

The first part of the film, titled 'A Child of Fire,' arrives Dec. 22, while the followup 'The Scargiver' debuts in April.

I have issues here, in large part because that second one sounds like the name of an offbrand pro wrestler whose gimmick is being a failed social care worker.

Theme song for the second one better just be this with different lyrics

rebel moon is the second best star war movie, after rogue one

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 27 January 2024 21:37 (two months ago) link

when does it get good, I tapped out after 20 mins of strained & clichéd scene setting & chsracter development.

organ doner (ledge), Saturday, 27 January 2024 21:49 (two months ago) link

rushed and cliched, sure, its a star wars type space opera. its oretty clear what its going for and where it isnt going to get bogged down.

but actors, lines, backdrops and focus all ahead of

ok look everything after the original three bar rogue one

actors and lines better than those also
