It would be funny to compare left and right Biden doomsday predictions and see who's closer. Will he plunge us into communist hell and privation or sell us all to ExxonMobil to be used as fracking fluid?

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 02:04 (three years ago) link

The answer, of course, is somewhere in the anodyne middle. Let the lukewarm bath of the status quo wash over you.

DJI, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 02:11 (three years ago) link

But it’s absolutely going to be closer to the fracking fluid scenario. In 2024 we’re not going to be any closer to a just equitable society but we are going to be closer to not having drinking water.

onlyfans.com/hunterb (milo z), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 02:14 (three years ago) link

Okay man there’s quotes from environmental groups in that piece. It’s a lot more valid than some guy who barely pays attention to these things saying “I hear he LOVES fracking” over and over.

Do you think that Biden and Harris were messaging to voters, to fossil fuel companies, or to a third party when they both made a point to repeatedly holler during televised debates, on little provocation, that the Biden administration would not ban fracking?

“made a point to repeatedly holler” “on little provocation” lol what yeah each in every time in response to be being specifically accused of planning to ban fracking which of course is believed to be a liability in PA.

“Big” Don Abernathy, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 02:31 (three years ago) link

You should claim they accosted mild mannered random voters on the street and screamed at them that they got off on not banning fracking just to take it slightly up a notch.

A majority of Pennsylvanians support a fracking ban.

Frednebb IMO

onlyfans.com/hunterb (milo z), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 02:45 (three years ago) link

xp maybe not, but I think as a position it was a calculation the campaign made to win Pennsylvania as a whole

did anybody else who is getting Biden emails get one titled "Did Joe Biden offend you?" and ask you to sign his birthday card?

some of us are already in doomsday or have been on the edge of it for a while. someone in one of these threads recently said something along the lines of "liberals and leftists on here sure do fight a lot especially considering they share the same class and cultural backgrounds" and i about spit out my coffee. yep, i am definitely not in the same class as people who have the luxury of mocking "doomsday scenarios" as something in the realm of fantasy, not the reality they've been trying more or less to keep at bay for years.

i don't seem to be experiencing the same physical world as these people either. i feel the doomsday effects of automobile pollution every day i can't breathe in a giant inversion soup bowl entirely organized around cars. it's poison and my body reacts to it like poison. it gives me headaches and makes me depressed. the inversions last for four months of the year. i see the effects of fracking and gas extraction every time i take a trip around what used to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. the uintah basin is bathed in pollution all the time. coal mining in carbon county over decades has led to horrible poverty and a huge opioid problem, same as appalachia i guess. i am living on the edge of a doomsday scenario and a lot of other people are too! over the next four years we'll see slightly noticable numbers of people slipping over the doomsday scenario threshold. but yes, you're far enough above water that it seems at a safe distance. happy for you.

It must be true

This is just sad.

Hannity takes Sidney Powell at her word that her witnesses can't come forward "without certain protections in place" and that they "require confidentiality" because their "lives have been threatened" and one has been "beaten up and is in the hospital." pic.twitter.com/5ZmAUPFIgF

jaymc, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 03:19 (three years ago) link

same as appalachia i guess

I didn't know we were comparing street cred but I mean, I literally live in Southern Appalachia. The median household incomes in the two Census tracts that make up my neighborhood are $23,000 and $38,000. I'm quite literally surrounded by poverty, and we live in a nice but small house we bought for $130,000. I have spent a lot of time in both urban and rural poor Appalachian communities, I'm very familiar with our region's long history of exploitation.

So I mean, if you just want to write off anyone who disagrees with you (or maybe sees the political realm as more complex than you do) as some kind of "elites," I guess have at it. It's certainly a popular thing to do.

hopes are different than expectations, i think everybody "hopes" that shit will be good but realistically c'mon now

brimstead, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 03:42 (three years ago) link

Not sure who that's aimed at, but I have neither high hopes nor expectations for the Biden presidency. I also don't think he's a cartoon villain who can't wait to get into the White House so he can once again dine on the ground-up bones of the poors and the adrenochrome of their orphaned children.

weren't the case, did nobody tell them that the debates were being televised around the entire planet, including 51.5 other states?

or that it's possible to be asked bad faith questions about niche interests that damage the planet, and take them as an opportunity to talk about how renewable energy will provide many more jobs, which will be more sustainable, and will stop destroying life on the planet?

seems like an oversight imo. weird that neither of them have ever watched a presidential debate on tv though!

huge rant (sic), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 04:16 (three years ago) link

Yeah, it’s time for me to bow out of these politics threads. People constantly arguing in bad faith isn’t worth wading through to get to the gems from the people I do like around these threads. Kind of amazed that these got infinitely worse AFTER the election.

Why? The only issue we all agreed on is resolved.

is right unfortunately (silby), Tuesday, 1 December 2020 05:00 (three years ago) link

my understanding was the debates were speaking to people already convinced. the comments about fracking were directed at people in specific areas on the ground whose livelihoods were affected

Dan S, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 05:07 (three years ago) link

Whatever reason you want to assign doesn’t matter. As policy it’s bad and as realpolitik it’s pointless - but it was important for them to signal the progressive acts we’re NOT going to do, as was the recurring theme of the campaign.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 1 December 2020 07:50 (three years ago) link

President Trump’s political operation has raised more than $150 million since Election Day, using a blizzard of misleading appeals about the election to shatter fundraising records set during the campaign, according to people with knowledge of the contributions.

The influx of political donations is one reason Trump and some allies are inclined to continue a legal onslaught and public affairs blitz focused on baseless claims of election fraud, even as their attempts have repeatedly failed in court and as key states continue to certify wins for President-elect Joe Biden.

nbd, just 150 million in the name of something so fucking stupid i want to puke again and again
