Looks like they are getting plenty of pushback on this, good. Wishful thinking, but I'd love to see some bad PR for them for this bullshit.Just imagine if famous creative freelancers, distgruntled audiences, and prominent elements of the trade press called out Marvel for their business practices. Such changes we would see!

sic do we just need to post a disclaimer before every single post itt that we agree with you and that Marvel and Disney have done an absolutely terrible job of paying creators for their work? no one is arguing that point with you, but you keep hammering on it anyway as if we are all viciously defending the corporate behemoth on that point. I don't understand who you are raging at by this point because, afaict, no one posting itt works for Marvel or Disney.

Also, the Hawkeye trailer looks FANTASTIC and I am pretty sure they're showing Clint with a hearing aid in an early scene, which makes me inordinately happy as close fidelity to the Fraction/Aja run with MCU caveats is precisely what I wanted this show to be.

For someone who seems to think Disney and Marvel are so evil, you suddenly seem to really care deeply about making sure they maximize their investment for their 2021 slate.

I think the 45 day release window is a fair enough compromise.I really love theaters and want them to survive, and this is already bad for them, but at least the bulk of money for most mainstream films comes in the first month anyway. Nowadays you only have to wait about 90 days for physical media and often less for VOD.
Can't blame you for being annoyed about the pandemic stuff - I've managed to go to the theater the summer often only by going to sparsely attended showings at odd times.
― Nhex, Monday, 13 September 2021 21:23 (two years ago) link
It's definitely not a terrible compromise and I get it, it's just a switch after being able to pay $20 for early access for other ones.

How quickly we forget how they handled "Mulan," which was $30 on top of the Disney+ subscription fee.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 13 September 2021 21:43 (two years ago) link
Oh right, that was $30. I mean, we paid it, still cheaper than three movie tickets and parking, even if we forgo snacks completely (which never happens).

It just looked like a generic action trailer to me, but I guess that’s how they’re marketing it. Hoping the actual series will have some of the comics’ offbeat charm, and not just a dog and other plot elements (but again, Kate’s characterization looks really promising).

Not sure if it was discussed itt or elsewhere and I'm covering old ground, but I read a couple different articles that implied this series is going to lean really heavily on the Fraction/Aja run, so I'm hoping it's more than a few nods.

My kid loves the idea of all the Marvel stuff but isn't really into watching anything. He always wants detailed recaps of the What If...? episodes, keeps asking to see pictures of Ultron and Whiplash and Venom, is fascinated by the idea of antiheros, and makes me read from his 5 Minute Marvel Stories book every night.
Last night he asked me if Red Skull just has a red skull, or if his whole body is like a red skeleton, and searching for 'red skull without clothes' didn't really give him a satisfactory answer.

So apparently this season of What If..? was supposed to be 10 episodes long but ended up 9 because Covid and the missing episode would have explained how Gamora turns up in the finale
― groovypanda, Thursday, 7 October 2021 13:41 (two years ago) link
Yeah, definitely seemed from context that would've been an entire extra episode. Also, they ended up referencing almost every other episode in S1, except maybe the "Who Killed the Avengers?" ep - though maybe the Loki from that one showed up for a second?
Liked they all picked up after the respective ends of their episodes, like Thor fighting Ultron, Killmonger about to be apprehended, etc.
Funny how this was a better adaptation of the Age of Ultron series than the movie was (which only took the title m/l)

Really enjoyed that finale and how all the storylines dovetailed together - it was easily the best of the Disney+ finales so far. I don't watch many cartoons, but it seemed like the action sequences were really well designed and edited - a lot more involving and easy-to-follow than the movie fights.

Yeah, definitely seemed from context that would've been an entire extra episode.
I wouldn't have minded seeing it, but on the other hand if they had to cut one I'm not surprised that they cut "What if this character did the thing that they'd explicitly been trying to do from their first appearance?"
I like that the last coda matched the first episode, Hayley Atwell was a gift to this show - as of course was Chris Hemsworth.
