I follow this crust punk hobo dude on youtube who posts really long, really well-edited videos of the freight trains he hops, complete with careful captioning of the control points and locations and timestamping of the more interesting moments. He mostly rides BNSF trains through the west, but he was tramping through Mexico with a pal last year. Good stuff.

Research in recent months has suggested that hours-long train videos, left on the TV, are an excellent visual accompaniment to long proggy techno tracks and DJ mixes. Our scientists are continuing their investigations.

I knew the Yurikamome Line would get on this thread, anyway, I'm not the least bit interested in trains but love watching these or having them playing in the background while I work.

If trains are a bit too exciting you could always go by bus. I was looking for the slow tv show which was on BBC4 a few years ago and found this instead.

Girlfriend is watching a yoga tutorial and I'm watching a tornado derail a freight train in Illinois. State of us.

(Love these, btw. Happy to just to watch Bidston-Wrexham from the driver's cab. Ideal.)

my fav channels are lorirocks777 and rail relaxation. the former's rides are a little less eye-catching all around but i like the grim winter light in some of the france videos. the latter has some all-time bangers, good stuff in italy, spain and austria.
