I also have a load of very geometric silk scarves that belonged to my chic auntie, for that '70s flight attendant/secretary look.
Socks go in their own drawer, black tights have their own drawer, other tights have their own other drawer.
I blame five years of laundrette reliance - you sit there thinking you have to go do a few loads, but then you think that's three hours of your life that's non-refundable, so off to John Lewis for tights and socks, wash day postponed.

I have a nice warm navy blue woollen scarf. There is another scarf in the house which is a rather scuzzy sludge brown colour, which was left behind by somebody. Maybe I should wear it and then someone will eventually say, "Hey, that's my scarf!". But no, sludge brown....urghhhhhhhh.

Fact remains that a college scarf is something I have never considered owning. OK, Bristol being a non-collegiate university had scarves for the different *faculties* was slightly different - ppl hardly have the same sense of *belonging* to a faculty. In my final year, scarves enjoyed a brief spurt of popularity amongst the first years - my faculty (Science) had a rather attractive scarf with stripes of green, white and dark red.

My favourite ones are the tacky psuedo-indian ones with the vague paisley patterns and the silver threads woven into them. I have about eight of those, in every colour of the psychedelic rainbow. The original lot, which I bought in Africa decomposed after about five years of steady wearing, so my current lot were bought 4 for $1 at G&G EVERYTHING ONE DOLLAR BARGAIN STORES in Green Point.
My sock drawer is forever over-spilling and has no organisation whatsoever. It also contains knickers, bras, petticoats and naked polaroids of my ex boyfriend.

My scarves:
a Lindsey tartan cashmere scarfa stripey florescent orange and pink wool scarfa navy green and maroon fictional school scarfa silk twill scarf with Persian hussairs on itan orange pleated silk scarf with Andalusian horses on it a celery colored silk pocket square with a tiny repeating camel pattern on ita chiffon scarf with tiny multicolored pattern on it
I went through a phase when all I wanted was a perfectly square white chiffon scarf with navy polka dots on it. I think I bought one like this for my grandmother but then I couldn't find one for myself. People tried to buy me ones but the dots would be wrong or the shape wasn't right or it would be white on navy, so I gave up.
I don't really wear scarves much anymore. Except for the warm scarves, I haven't worn any of these scarves in the past year except one of the silk ones that I sometimes wear as a belt with a denim skirt.
You can never have too many scarves or belts or shoes or sunglasses or hats or . . . (even Amanda de Cadanet can remember the word "accessories")

it needs to go with a dark blue jacket and a brown cordouroy jacket.
i am in the world capitol of scarves, so any color or combination of colors will be easy to come by, i think.
so what colors? what sizes? what fabrics?
also, can someone point me to a easy-to-understand demonstration of how to best and most fashionably wear a scarf? so far i've been getting by with an indifferent wrap-around.
sincerely,

I do have two cool hand-knit "fashion" scarves made from interesting fibers - one my MIL made for me; the other she gave me the fiber for and I did myself. (The one I did myself the brand is Galaxy and it is made in Italy. It's viscose, rayon and acrylic - sort of a lovely combination of rose, glue, black and metallic gold).

Anyway, the reason I need a new one is that I keep losing them so spending any moderate amount of money is probably a bad idea.
