Rabidly anti-gay Arkansas state Sen. Jason Rapert, who has referred to coronavirus as a "hoax" and called mask mandates "draconian," is now hospitalized with COVID-19

Herman Cain's twitter feed has been providing generically shitty right wing zombie talking points on a daily basis, but afaict he's still hospitalized with Covid, and has been for a month. Wilbur Ross was hospitalized for something a while ago, too, with no updates. I'd be cool with all these ghouls disappearing forever.

xpost Well TBF he also posthumously tweeted his own death notification so his clarity is truly off the charts.

first reply to that tweet, posted pre-death

Whoever is tweeting from this account should be careful. If Herman doesn’t make it, you are going to be the thoughtless a-hole trying to hype a dead man. If he does make it, he may have had a change of heart after going through all this & you are doing it without his permission.

I posted the following message on my Facebook page regarding Cain's death: "Well, well, well. If it isn't the consequences of their own actions. Still, it managed to kill one of the less carcinogenic Republicans so it's definitely not yet time to throw a party. Let's hold off on that until one of the more odious ones dies." AND A TOTAL KAREN HAD THE AUDACITY TO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THAT POST! She was all, "I think you need to seek therapy if you think it's ok to celebrate anyone's death." Bitch, please, when Trump dies I am going to party until I cannot party anymore.

Man, the floodgates will open when Trump kicks the can. There will be some solemn lip service on the news or whatever, but I predict people will spill out onto the streets like it's V-Day.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 30 July 2020 16:37 (three years ago) link

And then they'll start looting, lighting things on fire and knocking shit over again, but still.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 30 July 2020 16:37 (three years ago) link

Cain's candidacy was a cartoon--9-9-9 repeated on auto-pilot--but just by virtue of running for the nomination and actually having lead at one point (the whole Gingrich train-wreck), it seems like a significant death. He seemed affable enough...but I'm just now remembering why his candidacy crumbled.

clemenza, Thursday, 30 July 2020 16:40 (three years ago) link

arguably he (along with Palin and some others) helped set the stage for trump just by helping make the whole thing even more of a weirdo circus than yr standard GOP contest

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Thursday, 30 July 2020 17:14 (three years ago) link

(xpost) Totally; the whole 2012 Republican debacle was a practice run for Trump. (I'll mention this yet again: I argued on here at the time that Gingrich was a lot closer to winning that nomination than anybody thought, but others said no, the party and fundraising always controls these things in the end. For 2012, technically correct; four years later, not at all.)

clemenza, Thursday, 30 July 2020 17:17 (three years ago) link

if you are an influential public figure and you use your platform to be dismissive of the risk of covid you are signing a contract that it's ok for people to laugh at you if you die of covid. it's not very tasteful but that's just one of the many reasons not to sign the contract

Gingrich was running so he could basically pay himself from campaign funds. He wasn’t trying to win. Although, come to think of it, Trump was probably trying the same grift but failed, Producers-style.
