I haven't checked on you, but I am not doing so great myself.

No Particular Place to POLL (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 13 August 2021 23:43 (three years ago) link

I already submitted both 1DS proposals. I compulsively do it early, otherwise I fret over it too much.

I'm doing super medium this season.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Saturday, 14 August 2021 00:26 (three years ago) link

I get it. I submitted this morning to get it over with as well.

I didn’t want to worry about the description for too long.

No Particular Place to POLL (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 August 2021 00:32 (three years ago) link

Greg, it's OK to submit more than one proposal?

wildleee questionable baking substitutions (Leee), Saturday, 14 August 2021 01:11 (three years ago) link

Oh duh should've read the instrux:

Proposals are limited to two per player.

This after I submitted two last year lol.

wildleee questionable baking substitutions (Leee), Saturday, 14 August 2021 01:12 (three years ago) link

Hey, so I eked out a tie yesterday, 3(3)-3(3). Don’t know if this result has a cute nickname or not.

Quad trips

Oh!

No Particular Place to POLL (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 August 2021 15:28 (three years ago) link

Just looking back and I see I got an email last year from TAI on November 3rd about that round of 1DSs.

No Particular Place to POLL (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 August 2021 15:32 (three years ago) link

(just made that up btw)

Yeah,so I figured.

Anyone else get stuck on GAPDY yesterday?

wildleee questionable baking substitutions (Leee), Tuesday, 17 August 2021 14:59 (three years ago) link

Ha, no, but I see that was a challenging question for those unfamiliar with the nuances of Billboard charts/radio formats. (I went with Foo Fighters but considered RHCP, Chili Peppers, Green Day, and Weezer.)

jaymc, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 19:26 (three years ago) link

(Er, strike "Chili Peppers.")

jaymc, Tuesday, 17 August 2021 19:32 (three years ago) link

i said nickelback like a dumbass!!!

bezos did the dub (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 17 August 2021 19:40 (three years ago) link

Not a huge fan of a question that amounts to 'name a rock band big in the 00s and hope you are right', though, in fairness, I was 99% sure that Linkin Park and Foo Fighters would be on the list.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 17 August 2021 20:27 (three years ago) link

Agreed it wasn't the best question.

It apparently derived from a Chris Molanphy article in Pitchfork, which referred to "a Modern Rock penthouse with a lock that, seemingly, only five American bands had the keys for: Foo Fighters, Green Day, Linkin Park, Incubus, and, yes, the Chili Peppers. During the six-year period from 2003 through 2008, this five-band oligopoly controlled the No. 1 spot 152 out of 313 weeks-- a preposterous 49% of the time."

This was later cited in the Wikipedia article on the chart.

Although the implication is that these five bands spent more time at #1 than any others, Chris doesn't state that outright. ("Seemingly" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.) Then again, why include Incubus (11 weeks at #1) instead of NIN (17 weeks) or Weezer (16 weeks)? I'm guessing it's because he goes on to talk about NIN and Weezer in the next paragraph.

i was shockingly old when i realized that ‘airegin’ was nigeria backwards

mookieproof, Saturday, 21 August 2021 17:56 (three years ago) link

it had never occurred to me and i had to go through a list of rollins songs in my head

I think I realized it when someone told me or I heard it on the radio a fewer years back. So yeah, shockingly old too.

Hitsville Ukase (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 21 August 2021 18:12 (three years ago) link

well, at least i didn't finish dead last in the championship. yikes

mookieproof, Tuesday, 24 August 2021 00:13 (three years ago) link

I started out Round 1 in 64th place due to atrociously bad moneying which, sadly, is a theme that will continue throughout the rounds.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 24 August 2021 00:23 (three years ago) link

Though, thinking to myself: "Hmm, Thorsten might ask a question about Bridgerton, maybe I should learn the rudiments of it" about an hour before my scheduled match is my proudest moment in trivia history.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 24 August 2021 00:31 (three years ago) link

love you for ken stabler tho

mookieproof, Tuesday, 24 August 2021 00:51 (three years ago) link

how do the championships work anyway? they used to be like watched by a judge irl or something right?

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 15:48 (three years ago) link

two straight 6/6s, feels good because my first foray into rundle a was not going so well

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 17:00 (three years ago) link

The championship is done with someone watching you over a Zoom call.

I ended up finishing 79th, fine enough though disappointing given that I finished 40th last year. The difference was mostly terrible moneying.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 17:14 (three years ago) link

In much more pedestrian developments, my defense has been atrocious this season.

wildleee questionable baking substitutions (Leee), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 17:18 (three years ago) link

And an embarrassing RTFQ fail because I answered Italian Neo-realism for the film question yestreday.

wildleee questionable baking substitutions (Leee), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 17:31 (three years ago) link

hey, the other day, i said nimbus instead of nimbostratus like an idiot

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 17:37 (three years ago) link

tbf asking people to be aware that "nimbostratus" is one of the cloud kinds seems like a tall order!

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 18:16 (three years ago) link

it's been like 20 years since I really read up on cloud kinds

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Wednesday, 25 August 2021 18:16 (three years ago) link

I thought it was "nimbus" and felt pretty good about my answer. Apparently that's just a more generic term for a rain cloud.

jaymc, Wednesday, 25 August 2021 18:27 (three years ago) link

TFW you submit a 1D proposal and then see that it's basically already been done.

Moz Jabroni (Leee), Tuesday, 31 August 2021 20:46 (three years ago) link

Wait did that happen? Sorry

Gwar ina Babyon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 31 August 2021 20:49 (three years ago) link

The proposal I just sent in wasn't for anything I mentioned ITT, but basically this is the one that scooped me: https://learnedleague.com/oneday.php?notstartrek

Moz Jabroni (Leee), Tuesday, 31 August 2021 21:16 (three years ago) link

Ah.

I had worries about that kind of thing myself, whether I checked carefully enough

mookieproof, Wednesday, 1 September 2021 04:53 (three years ago) link

oh, heh. yeah, i was amused by that one. Bombed most of the rest though. 3 a day may not save me from relegation in c, though that feels dead average!

I also got 3 right yesterday but it resulted in an extremely rare instance of winning with 3 correct answers in an A Rundle.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Wednesday, 1 September 2021 12:54 (three years ago) link

Forks, the 1DS we collaborated on was the reason why I got the Elvis question yesterday!

Moz Jabroni (Leee), Thursday, 2 September 2021 16:11 (three years ago) link

rundle a is relentless. three straight 6/6's last week, three straight ties. lost 5(7) to 5(8) yesterday. i got 5 again today (thank you middle school spanish inquisition project), hopefully that'll be enough

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Thursday, 2 September 2021 16:41 (three years ago) link

Do you guys feel like there have been a lot of MDs where all the questions are roughly equally hard? I may be just making excuses for my unusually bad DE but that's how it feels to me.
