Yeah, me too! I was on a tear and have since lost my last 6 in a row (lol?) but should finish in the top eight in C.

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Friday, 26 March 2021 15:40 (three years ago) link

good season here too, i was expecting to get knocked back down to C but i've held my own

na (NA), Friday, 26 March 2021 15:41 (three years ago) link

Pretty good season yes, was in promotion placing after MD 22, with all in my own hands really, but then went on a fair loss to the rundle leader followed by a none-too-flattering 2(3)-6(3) defeat. I seem to be guaranteed a 4th or 5th placing in Meridian B. (Promotion isn't totally off the table I guess, considering the occasional higher-rundle attrition, but I'm not too bothered; contending in the top of B certainly has its charmes vs struggling against relegation in A.)

anatol_merklich, Friday, 26 March 2021 19:43 (three years ago) link

charmes even!

anatol_merklich, Friday, 26 March 2021 19:43 (three years ago) link

anyone have any very best wrong answers they wanna rep for? i can't even get thru them, so many of them wouldnt even be worthy of a temporary dn change on ilx which to me is the bar u have to pass for a VBWA

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:44 (three years ago) link

i was serious about "IM Cute" which in retrospect was more clever than "Tweet Cute" imo

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:47 (three years ago) link

Someone on the boards posted Meet ICQute, which is a great deep cut.

Eleanor of Accutane (Leee), Friday, 26 March 2021 20:44 (three years ago) link

ninth-highest TCA, second-lowest CAA. so i finished second

the person whose stats i posted above won the rundle for the fourth time in the last seven seasons and got *eleven* more correct answers than i did. utter savage

mookieproof, Saturday, 27 March 2021 09:32 (three years ago) link

5th, third highest TCA

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 27 March 2021 15:43 (three years ago) link

4th, finishing with a 9(5), which is always kinda fun. Highest TCA; 109 would even be top-half in the A rundle it seems.

anatol_merklich, Saturday, 27 March 2021 16:22 (three years ago) link

8th worst TCA, third best CAA, and second best defensive efficiency are why I ended up and overall.

Btw, the Rivers, Lakes, etc. is another deck I recommend. I almost got the Irrawaddy question right because of it (I went with Salween).

Eleanor of Accutane (Leee), Saturday, 27 March 2021 17:08 (three years ago) link

What's up with the fingerprint?

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 April 2021 12:37 (three years ago) link

With 18 categories, the total number of combinations is over 6 quadrillion possible orderings, so the theory is that with some tens of thousands of players, each one has a unique order of categories (ranked best to last or whatever).

Ovid-19 (Leee), Thursday, 1 April 2021 17:09 (three years ago) link

? i'm missing the context.

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 1 April 2021 17:34 (three years ago) link

From the thread that kicked things off:

It occurred to me that, with 18 LL categories, the number of ways to order the categories far, far exceeds the number of active LL players (or humans in general). In principle, then, everyone might be expected to have a unique category ordering by Q% and that be a "fingerprint" of sorts.

Then Thorsten in a fit of procrastination decided to add it to the site, and now it's a thing.

Ovid-19 (Leee), Thursday, 1 April 2021 18:18 (three years ago) link

yikes, okay.

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 1 April 2021 18:40 (three years ago) link

It's hard for me to imagine that *no one* else shares my fingerprint (6BGE147FA8D9I2H53C, if you must know), given that there are some correlations between strength in some categories and weakness in others. But maybe!

jaymc, Thursday, 1 April 2021 18:53 (three years ago) link

Wait, Thorsten’s fingerprints only use letters.

Just submitted the draft questions for my 1DS. Feel kind of weird.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 11 April 2021 03:38 (three years ago) link

Looking forward to the 1DS this week that one of you smithed.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 11 April 2021 14:25 (three years ago) link

And just got my first feedback from a tester. Good stuff.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 11 April 2021 23:26 (three years ago) link

Thanks James! We're still polishing it a bit, so we're cutting it close.

Tahini Coates (Leee), Monday, 12 April 2021 14:41 (three years ago) link

Think I just read on the magic spreadsheet that one has to turn it in two days before it goes live.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 12 April 2021 14:43 (three years ago) link

Yep! And just submitted, so it's all ready to go.

Is yours "Dude, Where's My Car?"

Tahini Coates (Leee), Monday, 12 April 2021 18:19 (three years ago) link

Ha, no. Did you use the Bulk Uploader?

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 12 April 2021 19:48 (three years ago) link

I did (definitely beats copy-pasting a dozen times). It can however be a little wonky, but trying again seems to iron out the wrinkles.

Tahini Coates (Leee), Monday, 12 April 2021 19:53 (three years ago) link

Mine is not live until May.

Yeah, there are some subtleties to the Bulk Upload, but overall seems to work pretty well.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 12 April 2021 19:56 (three years ago) link

By the way, may I ask how many people ended up giving you feedback?

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 12 April 2021 23:44 (three years ago) link

12/12 for the second one; the first one I think was 11/12.

Tahini Coates (Leee), Monday, 12 April 2021 23:48 (three years ago) link

Thanks. How long did it take from them all to come in after you submitted?

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 12 April 2021 23:50 (three years ago) link

For the second one, we got about half of them within the last few days before the testing deadline (though a whole bunch right after I submitted the drafts). They definitely came in in waves.

I'm not as sure about the first one because forks took the lead there (and only one smith gets notified as the feedback comes in).

Tahini Coates (Leee), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 00:05 (three years ago) link

Dribbled in till a few day before iirc

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 12:01 (three years ago) link

Thanks. Did you actually get an email when someone submitted?

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 12:37 (three years ago) link

Yep

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 12:38 (three years ago) link

I have created a couple of Alpaca Farm quizzes, which I had fun with, but maybe I should try to do an official 1DS at some point. It's always just seemed like a long and complicated process.

jaymc, Tuesday, 13 April 2021 14:28 (three years ago) link

Maybe, but there’s just something about seeing something you wrote come out in that format.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 14:34 (three years ago) link

My 1DS comes out May 3. I have 11/12 feedback right now (the 12th still has a couple weeks and I personally almost always submit my feedback on the last day so I can't really complain).

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 14:46 (three years ago) link

Smithing 1DS's is definitely a time consuming and pretty thankless process but it's one of my favorite things about LL. Not something I would do if I didn't find writing and tinkering with questions fun though.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 14:47 (three years ago) link

Same here, even though this is my first one. Yours looks interesting, mine comes out two days later.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 14:57 (three years ago) link

Anyway, who else is signed up for the American Revolution ML?

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 15:58 (three years ago) link

Me. I think I'm going to do all four MLs during this off-season, which may be a first for me.

jaymc, Tuesday, 13 April 2021 15:59 (three years ago) link

Considered that, but not really feeling 21st Century Literature.

It Is Dangerous to Meme Inside (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 13 April 2021 16:01 (three years ago) link

That's probably the one I'm most excited about. (LGBT 2 should be good, too, but not as novel since I did LGBT 1.)

I remember doing the Pen and Paper Math one weekend and spending a lot of time and getting maybe 9/12, maybe one stupid error and two others that were quite hard computations then seeing how many people got 12/12 and wondering how much time they had spent or how in practice they were.
