Most of the 2019 shows I have seen are frankly unworthy of nominations or votes but they make for solid ambient accompaniment to making dinner and paying bills and what have you.

Dr. Teeth and the Women (Old Lunch), Friday, 31 January 2020 14:47 (four years ago) link

most of us eat dinner and pay bills too!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 14:48 (four years ago) link

reminded I need to finish this season of Mindhunter, I really dig that show so I'm not sure why I haven't yet seen it through to the end.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Friday, 31 January 2020 14:55 (four years ago) link

I might have thought of doing that, yes.

Lol. Just seen my bookmarks

groovypanda, Friday, 31 January 2020 15:01 (four years ago) link

Helped me clear a few bookmarks I no longer need, tbh.

is it cool if i vote in this even if i hate television

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 31 January 2020 15:19 (four years ago) link

btw feels like fleabag's and russian doll's game to win

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 31 January 2020 15:20 (four years ago) link

we all hate everything brad; that's the point of the board

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 15:21 (four years ago) link

lol

i kinda feel like i haven't seen enough to do this. there are many shows on the list that i feel like i would love that i just haven't gotten around to (the oa bc i love hot incoherent messes, steven universe which i've seen some but not all of, joe pera talks to you, letterkenny, tuca and bertie). i'd be a prominent voter for the most recent season of are you the one though, greatest season of reality tv i've ever seen

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 31 January 2020 15:32 (four years ago) link

PEN15! PEN15!

🚶‍♂️💨 (Eric H.), Friday, 31 January 2020 15:46 (four years ago) link

i also need to see that show

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 31 January 2020 15:51 (four years ago) link

i arranged the 15 shows i voted for into a tier of 1-10 and 11-15 to align with the point tiers above, but then i was thinking that if i could choose, i would give 10 points to my top 5, which were the shows i really enjoyed above and beyond everything else, and 5 points to my bottom 10, which were shows i enjoyed but didn't reach that peak. but i understand that letting everyone assign their own points is too complicated. just being honest about what i loved vs. what i liked

also i know it came out like three years ago but i think i should still be able to vote for twin peaks the return

na (NA), Friday, 31 January 2020 16:07 (four years ago) link

I sent a ballot. I would have given Russian Doll the bulk of my points had that been an option.

It's a shame Emmerdale wasn't nominated!

Good taste, bit Victorian but who isn't? (jed_), Friday, 31 January 2020 16:08 (four years ago) link

Modest proposal: same points as before except on all ballots,

#4 = 15 points
#3 = 20 points
#2 = 25 points
#1 = 30 points

I want my very favourite stuff to get an outsize share of the points and stand a better chance, and I think others would agree. As I say, your call, and thanks for running this

opden gnash (imago), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:10 (four years ago) link

I'll likely adjust different point scoring for future polls but let's chalk scoring issues up this go round to first time polling.
I've already got a tabulation system in place and people voted based on it so i don't want the hassle/work/madness of revising it midstream.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:18 (four years ago) link

Also: we are getting several ballots with only three or four picks which means there's some strategic options if you really want to stress the stuff you love!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:19 (four years ago) link

Solution: close the voting tonight as planned. Then announce that every voter has 3 or 4 days to affirm their ordered top 4 by email. Then add 5 points to 4s, 10 to 3s, 15 to 2s and 20 to 1s. I don't want my #1 and #10 to get the same number of points, and my only 'strategic option' is to only vote for 4 things! Which all get the same points as each other anyway! Sorry to be difficult but this would be way better (and less of a dull Netflix procession) with more tiering.

opden gnash (imago), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:50 (four years ago) link

Unless you're making a mordant comment on the viewing-figures-based likelihood of shows getting renewed lol

opden gnash (imago), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:52 (four years ago) link

Problem with changing the voting is that not everyone who sent in a ballot is going to know things have changed.

Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:53 (four years ago) link

imago: sorry, it's not changing this year.
It'll be okay! There will still be lots to explore and argue about even if the final tabulation doesn't meticulously reflect everyone's very specific enthusiasms to the proper decimal point.
Plus: Moka images! How can you not be happy with Moka images!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:54 (four years ago) link

Also forks if you aren't too busy tabulating results I could really use your help painting my house. And by help I mean basically that I need you to just be a dear and do it for me. I'll be out of town for the weekend, hope you can finish by the time I'm back!

Dr. Teeth and the Women (Old Lunch), Friday, 31 January 2020 17:55 (four years ago) link

obviously I feel like an asshole being like this but...a straight 25 points -> 1 point system would have been the way to go. send me the results and I'll tabulate them all lol

opden gnash (imago), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:07 (four years ago) link

alternatively let's just do this and think about a revision next time, sorry to have been a pest

opden gnash (imago), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:09 (four years ago) link

I like the limitations of the current voting.

Yerac, Friday, 31 January 2020 18:10 (four years ago) link

Nah, stick with Ulysses' plan. Changing the voting after 30+ people have voted is dumb.

Dan Worsley, Friday, 31 January 2020 18:10 (four years ago) link

Just a thought, but the time to issue concerns about the methods of tabulation would've maybe been any day prior to the voting deadline. Again, just a thought.

Dr. Teeth and the Women (Old Lunch), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:14 (four years ago) link

My ballot is in! I just put in four things I really, really liked.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:30 (four years ago) link

It’s ok LJ u just being u!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:34 (four years ago) link

And for the record: I realize that is not the best means of scoring for future. But we’re here now!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:41 (four years ago) link

I am fine with different scoring for different polls, let a hundred flowers bloom! In a way, this scoring system forced me to put down four things I really liked and skip six which I like a lot but which lots of other people also like and maybe this helps reward individual enthusiasms, I dunno.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:43 (four years ago) link

yeah, i don't think every poll needs P&J bloody tears level of point debating.

Yerac, Friday, 31 January 2020 18:44 (four years ago) link

Well under the current scoring regime I found myself kicking some shows off my ballot so that I only had 10 total entries.

Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 31 January 2020 18:47 (four years ago) link

i also only did 4.

Yerac, Friday, 31 January 2020 18:56 (four years ago) link

I didn't actually order my already submitted ballot that carefully after the initial top four, tbh, and considered only voting for four also.

Good taste, bit Victorian but who isn't? (jed_), Friday, 31 January 2020 19:17 (four years ago) link

No reason to kick things off just to have ten! Any picks between eleven and twenty get five points and doesn’t penalize your first ten at all!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 19:17 (four years ago) link

Only benefit to fewer picks is the under five ballot, where every vote gets fifteen.
Intent there is to encourage casuals to vote and to have a rooting interest. It appears to be working, we have ballots of all types now!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 19:19 (four years ago) link

Oh damn I misread the rules then! Can I submit a revised ballot?

Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 31 January 2020 19:21 (four years ago) link

Just for you yes

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 19:24 (four years ago) link

I'm ~*special*~

Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 31 January 2020 19:27 (four years ago) link

Fixed!

Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 31 January 2020 19:45 (four years ago) link

i sent in my ballot

omar little, Friday, 31 January 2020 19:50 (four years ago) link

I don't have the sensibility to work out whether 'strategically voting' for only a top 10 will benefit my favoured shows or not. Nor do I really have the restraint to only vote for a top 10.

tangenttangent, Friday, 31 January 2020 21:39 (four years ago) link

Voted!

tangenttangent, Friday, 31 January 2020 21:45 (four years ago) link

Likewise!

opden gnash (imago), Friday, 31 January 2020 21:58 (four years ago) link

Having just finished Giri/Haji, I regret not voting for it.

Charlotte Brontesaurus (Leee), Friday, 31 January 2020 22:20 (four years ago) link

I think that’s 2020?

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 31 January 2020 22:48 (four years ago) link

I'ma vote, if only to distract myself from today's politics.
