Looking into Michael Alig, I didn't recognize his name (am bad with names) but I'm pretty sure I know his story from some recentish telling of it and it's now bugging me where that was. Definitely wasn't the Macaulay Culkin movie and I don't think it was the Glory Daze documentary either.

Man, has any actual decedent in 2020 received as much commentary itt as Michael Musto? Grade A ILX right here, I tell you.

A reminder that Michael Musto is not dead (afaik).

You're telling me that this isn't an aggressive way to frame something that no one with any sense would give a shit about?

There’s just something aggressively anti-intellectual about not having heard of a four-plus decade chronicler of NYC nightlife and queer issues

Reads as pretty aggro to me.

Look, I'm just trying to say that Musto isn't Old Geoffrey, the butler who died after two eps of Bosom Manor.

The obituary thread would be more interesting if people would actually link to the obituaries of the Bosom Manor extras they’re mourning instead of just leaving a “rip”

Unfamous or barely famous people are often interesting and their obituaries may be the best chance we have to read about their lives, post a damn obituary don’t just try to be first to the thread yknow?

is right unfortunately (silby), Tuesday, 29 December 2020 19:54 (three years ago) link

Obituaries tend to have a different meaning in the US and UK media btw. Except for really big figures who were of a dying age, obituaries in the UK don’t tend to be published the same day as the death is reported in a news story.

I like this thread being a record of deaths as soon as they are announced, personally.

Sometimes there's no English-language obituary available for some of my RIPs – or at least not yet.

The day will come... when all of the American and British ILXors meet... and we stand off... and we decide, once and for all, the proper style guide for this board... but, I assure you... oh yes, I assure you!!... blood must spilled...

I’m sure you’ll be fine, most of the blood spilled will probably be of us non-American and non-British sacrificial pigs

Wow. A bunch of friends and I saw Seger at MSG in January, and we found it endlessly amusing that his trench coat wearing sax player was named Alto Reed.

Kimbrough put out a six-CD set of every Thelonious Monk composition in late 2018 that's well worth hearing. The full band was a quartet (sax, piano, bass, drums) but they subdivided a lot from track to track. Some are piano solos, some are sax/drums, like that.

I didn't know much about him but did enjoy his Solstice album a few years back.
