HFS:

Check out Jim Woodring's TCJ interview for details on working with Kirby &al. on terrible Saturday morning cartoons, and also generally some of the most entertaining talking ever transcribed

I wish someone would wise up and just give Woodring complete creative control on an animated series. I can barely fathom a world that wonderful.

that explains why i liked centurions

I forgot about Pole Position, the other Ghostbusters (but I totally remember safari shirt dude), and Silverhawks! Tbh there were so many low-budget cartoons always going on and off the air. You really had to have a move or toy tie-in to secure your spot in the market and children's attention spans.

Since we're in garbage time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProStars

Does anyone remember this probably early '90s afterschool action series with an X-Men-like team except they had bug eyes?

you, my friend, are referring to SECTAURS

Hmm, may have been Sectaurs but that looks more He-Man than I remember. Like they had gray tactical suits?

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 5 August 2019 19:15 (four years ago) link

re TV Funhouse: it was entirely animated, it was aired on a semi-regular basis (not every week, but usually at least once a month), and it had a single creator and vision. A reason you might not include it is that it was a portion of SNL which was considered the main show. I have never seen the Comedy Central show of the same name and I am not nomming it.

here's another garbage cartoon

I'm pretty sure I've been consistent on this but show packages with non-intersecting show-length segments should nominate the segments individually not the packages.

if you don't close it by tomorrow i will nominate 20 more trashy moe anime shows

ciderpress, Monday, 5 August 2019 22:18 (four years ago) link

the other night I realized i'd forgotten to mention DNA^2, Slayers and Record of Lodoss War when waxing nostalgic abt middling anime for 90s teen boys. can't say any deserve nomination, tho all were leaps and bounds above the likes of Captain Caveman, The Hair Bear Bunch, Wheelie and rhe Chopper Bunch, Thundarr the Barbarian, Teddy Ruxpin, Dennis the Menace, The Glow-Worms, the Paw Paws, and nearly everything else upon which I similarly wasted my attention as an 80s preteen boy.

Good morning, how are you, I'm (Doctor Casino), Tuesday, 6 August 2019 01:03 (four years ago) link

Bluey: 1976 or 2018

2018 is the cartoon I'm nominating. 1976 was live action - Aussies would more likely identify that one as "Bargearse".

The cartoon will premiere on Disney Junior/Disney+ later this year, but I'm hoping that everyone with access to ABC iView or BBC iPlayer will give it a chance.

Shakey, I can't figure out what "Goin Bananas" is supposed to refer to.

Pound Puppies: 1986 or 2010?

Curious George: 1980 or 2006?

Here are 361 nominated series, including the 100 or so that Shakey nominated today to annoy me. Start contemplating. Voting thread tomorrowish.

I woke up this morning dreaming that there was an '80s animated series called The Opuloids, which was presumably about a team of wealthy crime-fighting cyborgs who power themselves up via fistfuls of OxyContin. Please consider my show as a write-in candidate during this voting season.

(Sponsored by Purdue Pharma. Villains include Fibromy Alger, who induces chronic pain, and Overton Counter, the dastardly fiend who tries to convince people that non-prescription analgesics are often sufficient. I have a theme song and everything. It was very productive, that shower I just didn't took.)
