So, the live action remake of The Lion King is an animated film?

Not sure about Bale and Pryce, but otherwise we're looking at many Oscar nominees next month.
― TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:38 (four years ago) link
And maybe winners ... I had to go back and check and, indeed, nearly everything that won a Golden Globe last year went on to win the Oscar -- Green Book, Cuaron, Malek, Coleman, Ali, King, Green Book's screenplay, "Shallow" for song, Spider-Verse for animated, Roma for foreign film. The only single miss was First Man for original score.

I hadn't even noticed that! so boring and shitty. Pacino especially really doesn't need to be in the mix
― Simon H., Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:56 (four years ago) link
He would've been replaced by the similarly craggy Dafoe, probably.
― temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 14:59 (four years ago) link
There's no way that category doesn't have a median age of 67 this year.
I can see Dafoe making it to Oscar nod, just to seal his comeback.

Tom Hanks is phenomenal in it, all the Gondry-esque touches are cute/cool (but would have been better with Gondry), but it's mostly pretty meh

someone observed that the Esquire offices in the late '90s are seen as staffed significantly by women and people of color...

xp to whiney: because it's well edited (if painfully scored)

(and it is very much detritus)
Why would I want to watch a bunch of movie clips edited together for 14 minutes?

Still a bit perplexed by how well High Life (FC's #7) is doing. Belated recognition of the director? It's probably in the poorer half of Denis's output, and among 2019's "lost in space" art films I liked Aniara more.

The Body Remembers... is on Netflix, at least in Canada. I suspect Anne at 13,000 Ft will make some waves when it makes the rounds theatrically next year. (I haven't seen it but ppl I trust loved it, and it earns automatic points for its 75-minute runtime.)
