“My wife comes home with these no-salt chips. Fuck you! No more bullshit!”

― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Sunday, October 25, 2020 1:49 AM (two days ago) bookmarkflaglink

My wife lost her mind at that part. Not for any relatable reason- I think it was all in the delivery.

Evan, Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:06 (three years ago) link

I saw him do pretty much this exact same set in 2015, except instead of his nag wife wanting to go to the opera, she said she wanted to go see the band Train. So he tells a story about driving to the Ticketmaster (complete with mouth sound effects of a car driving to Ticketmaster) and when he tells the guy there he wants two tickets to Train, the guy says "what do you think this is, Amtrak?"

(someone at adult swim needs to update the redirect for mixmycandles.com to something more recent than Decker vs. Dracula)

the burrito that defined a generation, Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:14 (three years ago) link

I heard this special was actually recorded in 2017? I mean obviously it couldn't have been recent

frogbs, Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:17 (three years ago) link

yeah he's been working on this material for a long time-- the coke vs. pepsi bit is at least 10 years old

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:25 (three years ago) link

Eh, I don't think so. Perhaps you failed to notice that this was comedy without a net?

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:27 (three years ago) link

i hate to redpill you here but if you have a keen eye you can actually see him looking at his notes throughout the set. i'd fire the production company for not editing those shots out

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:32 (three years ago) link

...He wouldn't do that to us. This is Tim we're talking about here. His word is gold.

OrificeMax (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:34 (three years ago) link

it's impossible. Tim says no more bullshit, and that includes reading notes during a set, come on

Chris L, Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:45 (three years ago) link

Specials at a restaurant are usually just made up of ingredients they happen to have on hand put together, right? Makes you think.

Evan, Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:46 (three years ago) link

That's that character's outfit, yes. See also the Lunch with Gelman parts 1 & 2

Evan, Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:47 (three years ago) link

It's as if he and Gregg were destined to work together.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:52 (three years ago) link

i had actually been rewatching his standup about a week before the special was announced so it was quite a nice surprise. which was then one-upped by the prospect of a new yellow river boys album!

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:55 (three years ago) link

Remember Neil Hamburger showed up in an early episode of Awesome Show so they go back a bit

xp

Evan, Tuesday, 27 October 2020 16:56 (three years ago) link

I think I posted it wayyy upthread, but they first worked together on an early episode of Tom Green's Poolside Chats.

"Yes Kanye, we can fuck again now! The computer animated likeness of my dead dad has stirred my long-dormant emotional center in such a way that I have finally become wet for you again here in this arid Wyoming climate! Cram it in my freakishly bulbous rear end immediately!"

frogbs, Friday, 20 November 2020 02:20 (three years ago) link

That's an odd show, it must have been after Jon moved back to New England and Gregg was in town tour managing for either Von LMO, Mr. Bungle or Link Wray.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 20 November 2020 03:36 (three years ago) link

The Zip Code Rapists to me were funnier in theory than practice. The Trouser Press guide write-up of them is better than listening to them imo.

Ape Hole Road (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 20 November 2020 15:05 (three years ago) link

They were much, much funnier live ime.

-An Old

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 20 November 2020 16:36 (three years ago) link

The show I saw them play as Zip Code Redemption last year was rather delightful and was pretty much all tongue in cheek covers (Back on the Chain Gang, You Oughta Know, and Wake me up before You Go-Go are the ones I nabbed some video of). As an added bonus, Gregg wore a Reese's Pieces T-shirt, which had to be a reference to the immortal Neil Hamburger E.T. joke.
