Half the Tim & Eric thread is about this show so I think it deserves its own thread

Granted I'm only like 13 hours into this thing but it's possibly one of the best comedic achievements of the 21st century

also this video is wonderful and I watch it every day

Worth looking for: the episode of The Best Show from a couple years back where Tim and Gregg take up about an hour of the show arguing over whether or not Tim actually saw the Tom Cruise remake of The Mummy.

Herman Woke (cryptosicko), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 15:44 (two weeks ago) link

I never really gave a shit about the Tim & Eric show but I am 100% on board with this as pure genius, Turkington hooking up with him was a godsend.
I'm on season 9.

It’s my favorite television thing. You really need to immerse yourself (similar to the Best Show).

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 17:18 (two weeks ago) link

Immerse, my friend. Let it wash over you.

Six seasons of uncritical plaudits for every film under the sun was a magnificent setup for Tim's excoriating Ant-Man review.

I Ate Those Food (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 17:19 (two weeks ago) link

I got into it through the spin-off, Decker.

at first it just seems like a shitty half-assed parody that does not feature any actual jokes, but as time goes on, the layers of comedy really accrue in an ingenious way

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 2 July 2019 18:19 (two weeks ago) link

probably said this in the other thread but Tim's explanation of why he's paying for Ayaka's abortion despite being a staunch pro-lifer is the purest distillation of the right-wing ethos that I've ever heard

I don't know how to explain this to you but the "Stump the Buff" segment where Tim nails Gregg on the Star Trek/San Francisco trivia question is just as dramatic as the scene in Breaking Bad where Hank figures out who Heisenberg is

Popcorn Classic is a really useful term for a certain kind of movie.

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 3 July 2019 09:37 (two weeks ago) link

I thank u, sic, although I spent a long while watching a different, much less complete YT playlist (after starting on the even less complete playlist on that one website) so I just wanted to make sure no one else made my stupid mistake. I give this latest playlist five bags of popcorn and a hundred cups of soda.

I Ate Those Food (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 3 July 2019 14:28 (two weeks ago) link

The later seasons of Decker aren’t on youtube btw, but iirc they stop interacting directly with On Cinema episodes so it doesn’t stand out badly

(The two Ant-Man movies also don’t appear in the playlist, but do very much affect On Cinema video and twitter content )

forks if you were starting at an early point, try dropping in on a S4 or 5 episode, when the Tim vs Gregg tone is better established & there’s loads of backstory, to see if it pings any better with you

I usually binge this while my gf is out and even though she's seen her share of T+E stuff she still seems baffled when she returns to whatever's happening onscreen. She recently walked in when Tim was discussing what he planned to do with his dead son's life insurance money. Oh, and then last night one of the Purple Boys ads was playing (which y'all should look up if they haven't popped up for you yet).

Personally for me I get a lot of humor out of the juxtaposition when he reads the synopsis. Something about the way the clips are always of a movie that takes itself very seriously with lots of drama and action, and yet completely undercut by the voice of this disengaged illiterate idiot painfully trying to get to the end of a blurb.

Another thing I've noticed since I got sucked into this show's orbit is just how common a construction 'hey, guys' is, and how it's begun making me laugh pretty much every time I hear it. Which I'm sure, to normal people, seems like lunacy.

does anyone have any theories about how Tim got Axiom and Manuel under his thumb?

Vape Store (crüt), Thursday, 18 July 2019 02:36 (three days ago) link

I always thought of them as LA music scene equivalents of Greg - pathetic mediocrities who nevertheless cling to Tim because he has access to a tv show, and also that Tim always pays for everyone’s drugs

there’s this little smirk Greg makes sometimes when he’s making some banal long winded observation that kills me for some reason

brimstead, Thursday, 18 July 2019 03:01 (three days ago) link

Gregg: and i would say it's about time because those of us who are Oz-Freaks have been waiting since 1939, which is when the last Wizard of Oz movie came out - it was a MGM picture starring Judy Garland

Tim: Oh!

Gregg: and to wait this long to find out the next chapter, it's kind of a burden. a lot of people have passed on who saw the original and never got a chance to see the next chapter, so that's kind of a shame.

Karl Malone, Thursday, 18 July 2019 03:20 (three days ago) link

ok, i know i'm still early on but S2E5 is my favorite so far. the oz review and then the stuff about Colin Farrell was enough to make it a classic, but this made my side hurt

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiYcJvDvzZQ

the clip doesn't even include the bit before where he suddenly announces that he's going to do this segment for the first ever time, or the conversation they have in the dark afterwards, as the credits roll, about how gregg made tim promise to never "do the political stuff again" after the podcast

Karl Malone, Thursday, 18 July 2019 03:28 (three days ago) link

idk why but every time tim mispronounces an actor's name i completely lose it, thankfully it happens in every single episode
